You really should come this way and look me up. There are bumper stickers on the cars hereabouts that say, Ithaca Is Gorges. No, they didn't spell gorgeous wrong. They are referring to the many gorges (westerners might call them canyons) in the area, carved out by glaciers and water with many, many waterfalls. There's one close to where I live (a long walking distance, maybe something over 3 miles) that's pretty famous as being higher than Niagara Falls. Definitely not wider, but the highest single-drop fall east of the Mississippi, I hear. This was taken in Oct. '05, a better foliage year than we're now having. You can judge the size if you look at the tiny people in front of the falls on the viewing platform.
BTW, a magazine in an article trying to tempt doctors to the Ithaca area actually paid me to let them publish this photo.
