OK, what eating restrictions do you have? I bet I could figure something out that would be tasty that'd meet them. I'd like the challenge. I was thinking of oils things are fried in, but olive oil is considered a good oil to lower your cholesterol. I guess with diabetes, it's a different game, but I bet there are good things to eat, even so.

OH No - No real restrictions ;) . . . Unless, I want to die sooner

Actually, I can eat whatever I want, just need to stay away from certain foods and how much I eat of them . . .

Diabetes - of course is all "Complex Carbohydrates" and anything Sugar I should avoid . . . Example: From Worst to Okay in Moderation - Amazingly Legumes; White Rice, White Potatoes, Starchy Vegetables (Corn & ON MY - Carrots the worst and one of my Favorites), Any White Pasta/Noodle, White Bread, and even some Grains . . . And as for Fruit - I won't give you list of bad, but I am limit to a Med size Apple or Pear and Maybe - just Maybe, I can have a small Orange every so often (everything else is a NO NO for Me) . . .

Then OH MY - as for what I need to watch for Cholesterol . . . Good HDL still too Low (only 38 - up from 28) and Bad is Lower (298 down to 198) But Total Triglycerides too High . . . SO - I eat as many Green Veggies (but have to be careful of the amount of fiber they contain), SALADS (Although I like - too Many Salads sometimes) and of COURSE any and all Meats (a Little Beef every now & then) and then I can have some of these things - Rye Bread (better still not good), "Sweet" Potatoes/Yams, a little "Brown" Rice, "DreamFields" Pasta (made for Diabetics). . . Then there is Dairy another No NO - Cheese (But, I won't stop that) . . .

OH, I almost forgot, Drinks - already Stopped almost all Sodas and Alcohol (except a very occasional one every so often) . . . AND then what can I say about Processed Foods and Condiments . . . As for Oil - I mainly use Extra Virgin Olive Oil, but for cooking I use very little Oils unless I HAVE TO . . .

AND even though I never really was a dessert person - I absolutely stay away from most everything that taste Sweet ! ! ! (Although, Chocolate has gotten to be a problem - and I now have an unsatisfiable need for Chocolate ! ! ! since becoming a Diabetic - Thankfully, there is Sugarless out there for me :D . . .)

So in the past 7 years, since becoming a Diabetic - I have lost over 32 Pounds by no longer eating/drinking what I use too . . . And the best thing I started was taking "Cinnamon," mainly in a Supplement form, which lowered both my A1c and Bad Cholesterol & Increased my Good Cholesterol numbers . . .

Alright, I think that is enough information for YA' . . .

So what You got for ME . . . BTW: I'll be waiting for the Overnight Express Delivery of any/all Meals that you want to send My Way

OK, I think the Turkish eggplant salad will be OK for you. The only fruit is a little bit of lemon juice, not the sweetest thing in town. Use it like you would vinegar and oil. Are tomatoes OK? They are in the salad.

I hear you on the surprising sweet things like carrots. My horse is insulin resistant because of Cushings, something a lot of older horses get, and I have to watch what treats she gets. Basically, limit the nonstructural carbohydrates (NSC), which are starches and sugars. No apples and carrots for her treats! Fortunately, there are some companies out there making tasty treats for horses with low NSC. sort of like dietetic candy, right?

Do you want me to figure out recipes for you and PM them to you? I don't want to take up space here, unless lots of people want them. But I bet I can figure something out, if you are into cooking.

Uncle, you don't have to give up any of the stuff you can't have anymore, you just have to learn to like the viable substitutes! Give 'em a chance. My mom has been living with the big "D" for about 40 years, and is just as happy as can be! Also, I've gone vegetarian and actually PREFER the meat substitutes now. I'll take a Gardein veggie burger over Carl's Jr or McD's any day!

First - Thanks for the Support and Info . . .

Yep - I do and I do like Veggie Burger - Just not all the time . . . And If you read my other post I don't worry about it to much . . . What everyone does not know . . . Is My Mother's Mother was Diabetic (died Of Diabetic Alcoholism), My Mother(who I cooked for her the last 5 Years of her life)/Sister/Brother are Diabetic, One of My Best Friend's Tom (You saw The Mill Right) who passed away almost 2 years ago was Diabetic (40+ Years), 4 other very Good Friends are Diabetic, and that was even before I became Diabetic . . . So I am quite familiar with most of the "Stuff" I can have and what I really do need to skip . . . Just doesn't work out that way when you are tempted by the wrong "stuff" all the time . . .

AND what I also Know is myself, if I start to not watch what I eat and do not "Deny" Myself certain things I will get very carried away - That is one of the reasons I do not do "Sweet" things nor drink "Pepsi" (MY BIGGEST Downfall - But I "Don't" really even like anymore - gotta' KEEP Tellin' "Myself" THAT ONE ! ! !) I am without a doubt someone who falls into BAD HABITS, especially ones that are the most difficult to break . . .

Now - Ain't that a KICK in the Head for someone who works in "Behavior Modification" who is still having a VERY Hard Time - breaking one and trying to start another  (Hint Hint Hint )

Can someone recommend a good SI tobacco flavor? What are the favorites?

Cyrus

PS: Is SI juice diacetyl free? Is it USA made? USP grade PG and VG?

TIA!

I am partial to the Cherry. After all the years of sucking burning tobacco, I am all into the fruity and sweet flavors.

I received my New Years Eve sale order today! The copper battery and orange LED rock! I also got a surprise SI disposable e-cig! It was in it's own retail-like package. It's white with a blue LED. It's labelled Menthol high-+18 mg. Of course, I had to try it, even though I should have given it to my still-smoking girlfriend. The flavor is O.K.-not as good as the regular SI flavors, but it would do in a pinch. It definitely has a more tobacco taste to it then the Menthol Burst which I love. Thanks for the freebie Imagine and Smokeless Image! Anyone else get one?

BTW, Just to further aggravate Uncle, to go with the steak and potatoes, I found a really good Pinot Noir: 2009 Castle Rock from Mendocino County. I couldn't believe it wasn't French!

NICE :)

Actually, "Castle Rock" makes some pretty good wines and they are not that expensive either :D

haha, I'd have to agree... even if a bit half heartedly so. My fave meal is country fried potatoes.... or just good ol' biscuits and gravy....

that's why God made daily multiple vitamins... :D

That's down home cooking, for sure. Fried chicken and banana pudding, anyone? yum

ALL GOOD - AND DO NOT KILL THE ONIONS ! ! !

I even made the Stuffed Eggplant dish before, but I leave the skin on . . .
(OH and if you can find it - the one in the "Alice's Restaurant" Cook Book is Fabulous too . . . Heck - I'll PM you the recipe.)

And The "Turkish" salad is GREAT, especially with "Cous-Cous mixed w/Feta & Spinach" and Ice cold - YUM ! ! ! :D
(FYI: Vegetarian too . . . )

But you're comparing the veggie burger to those awful, greasy fast-food burgers. There's a lot of neat stuff you can do with hamburger. Though there are some really wonderful vegetarian dishes, too. I make a stuffed eggplant that has anything interesting I can think to put in it. Very good! The basic is brown rice, cooked, raw veggies of whatever sort I please, onions, chopped, garlic, chopped, fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped, and some sort of grated cheese (sharp cheddar, usually) on top. Bake till it's hot and the cheese melts.

Then there's Turkish eggplant salad. The ingredients are eggplant, Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, onions (killed, see below), Italian parsley, chopped, fresh-squeezed lemon juice, olive oil.

Bake the eggplant in the oven or on a grill till the skin is blackened and burnt. Remove the skin (carefully, it's hot!), cut the innards up into one-inch cubes.

To kill the onions, slice them, put in a bowl, salt them heavily till they are almost covered. (If you like lots of Parmesan on your spaghetti, add the salt as if it was cheese.) Schrunge the onions with your hands, and they will start to wilt because of the salt. When they feel soft, not crispy, pour water in the bowl, drain, and repeat till the salt is washed away. You don't need to add salt to this salad, since the onions will retain a slight salty flavor.

Mix the veggies together, cut into bite-size pieces, and pour on a dressing of lemon juice and olive oil. Be sure to use fresh lemon juice. RealLemon juice just doesn't do it!

Uncle, could you have the Turkish salad? That feels like a meal in itself, the eggplant makes it so hearty.

Can we order the disposables online, too? That would be a good choice for those wanting to try e-cigs w/o making a huge commitment of money for a starter kit. If they had been available, I would have sent my daughter one or 2. As it was, I sent her the disposables I had tried, but she wasn't interested in pursuing e-cigs. Maybe she would have been with SI's products? I know that when I first wanted to try e-cigs, I ordered disposables so that if I didn't like them, I could give up the idea right then and there. Fortunately, I liked them well enough to keep looking and found the Volts.

So now you can just have to keep trying out ways to make food that's good for you FUN! Tons of ways to do that! Just so you won't keep "Un-liking" us..
...and the veggie burger example was for my going vegetarian, not for my mom having Diabetes. Real meat actually grosses me out now. Just goes to show, preferences really can change.

Have you tried the Morning Star sausage? You can't tell the difference from actual sausage. I agree I love the meat substitutes.

Yes, kill the onions. It really doesn't add much salt, since it's washed away in the rinsings. Just about what you might want to add anyway or might be in a prepared dressing. Try it, and you'll see: the onions are milder but still crunchy -- not cooked, yet not really raw. I guess it's like a quickie pickling w/o the brine.

My ex-husband was a Turk, and this is one of the recipes he taught me that I really like and have taken with me throughout life. (BTW, that's why I have the odd last name of Su -- in Turkish it means water.)

I got my latest SI order in today! :)

I can see why the website describes my new batts as "copper gold" -- they don't quite know which color to be!

In bright daylight, they definitely appear more gold -- but in a dimly lit room, they appear a deep, beautiful copper!

Go figure -- SI has developed the first shape-shifting color-shifting battery!

Got my order too, but no surprise freebie - maybe you were the 100th order that day or something.

I did get the USB I wanted even though the site wouldn't let me order it - thanks Imagine :) I have every intention of paying for it, so we'll have to finagle something.
Also got the new carrying case. Jury is still out. I can't fit my batteries in it with cartos attached, so that's a bummer. And it has that funny rubber smell. Hoping that if I just let it sit out for a week or so that will go away, cuz I don't want that to transfer to the cartos. You really need to speak to the people who designed this and see if they can make it just the teeniest bit longer to fit the 78mm w/carto. But if the smell goes away I'll keep it, cuz it is at least nice for carrying some extra stuff.

Now I shall go into stalking mode waiting for the new PCC instead :)

Spam was the BOMB when I was growing up! Crispy fried Spam sliced really thin with fried eggs, rice and ketchup! YUM!
(FYI: You can actually get this from L&L Hawaiian BBQ).

yeah, when I was in Hawaii the McDonalds served breakfast dishes with spam. Guess they really like it there, LOL. My friend dared me to order but I wasn't in the mood -- gotta have it my way, which is like yours - fried crisp. But haven't tried with rice and/or ketchup.

I might be inclined to order drip tips if SI sold them. I really have enough for now and have restrained myself for the past recent sales, but if there were drip tips, I might just have to order more stuff.
