No, our government should henceforth be regarded as a willing accomplice and co-conspirator with the tobacco industry against the citizens.

The government of the people, by the people and for the people...

Both. "The Big 4" -- 3 BT and one BV.

There are 2 reasons rich businesses can buy political support.

1. We vote for people based on ads. That means WE put them up for sale, the corporations are only the buyers!

2. We vote for jobs in recessions. Doesn't matter the cost. Doesn't matter what it will do do the future. The bills are due NOW. We clearly tell our legislators to get us jobs. So they talk to business lobbyists who promise to deliver jobs. Doesn't matter if they will deliver 500 jobs and cost 1000. They conveniently leave that out of their speeches. You should have heard UPS and FedEx says they welcome and will be ready for the ecigs-must-be-signed-for requirement. Didn't mention it costs more.

BTW on the one had we didn't win today, on the other hand, we surprised a few committee members and made some mental points for the future. We need to do better. We need to find students, homemakers whose kids are in school, retired people, to do more daytime contacts with legislators that the rest of us cannot do.

Also, we're forming a Google Group for California political actions. (Separately, we're forming a Northern California group and others are creating groups in So. Cal.) The California-wide group will be for Sacramento actions, the more-local groups will be for counties and cities, who resist testimony from people if they are too many area-codes away.

I'll try to write up a "trip report"

Stefan does NOT say njoy said adults do not like favors in his write-up, but [an inaccurate and already-apologized-for reposting by someone else of with such a headline] incorrectly implies that.
My only other point of disagreement with him is I thought it was UPS and he thinks it was USPS, I'll have to listen to the recording in a couple of days to verify. So here's his trip report: Stefan Didak

[ Edit: It looks like Stefan corrected his headline. I wish I could find a strikeout font.]

[ EDIT 2: It wasn't Stefan that got it wrong, it was MyVaporSavior...apologies Stefan! ]

It was UPS? Let me fix that. I thought it was USPS, couldn't hear it that well. As for the headline, not sure what happened but I didn't edit anything after writing it up. I think some systems have truncated the title on the link which makes it look differently.

Berylana: To strike-out a portion of text, either click "Go Advanced, or you can put the [s] [/s] tags around the portion you want "struck" out.

For example, typing this:

I like [s]chocolate[/s] vanilla best!

comes out like:

I like choloate vanilla best!

Hope this helps! :)

I'm not really a big one for twitter etc but what do you all think of #adultslikeflavor ? I think it gets the message across but is general enough to be attached to pretty much anything.

These politicians already know perfectly well that they're lying, and they have no compunction about it, because they don't need to. If you're saying something about smokers (or people who are incorrectly perceived as smokers), it doesn't matter how false it is, because the prevailing social orthodoxy says that smokers are contemptible drug addict pariahs who don't deserve to have any rights.

yep. It has always bothered me that a person addicted to an illegal or prescription substance gets more consideration and compassion than a nicotine addict.

Oh I know that they know, I was thinking more of a public campaign of spreading the idea that "flavors" aren't just for kids. They're winning the pr side of things because who doesn't want to protect the children? Maybe if we can get people to think about the fact that they're choosing to eat, drink, smell things every day BECAUSE they have flavors, maybe we'll have one less thing to fight against.

No Tweet results for #adultslikeflavor.

Although they know that. I'm sure they eat more than leafy green vegetables.

Well there's one tweet, mine :) but it would help if I posted the right hashtag #adultslikeflavors

The "flavors targeted at children" argument makes so little sense it's actually amazing that so many people are able to regurgitate it with a straight face.

Millions of young people start smoking every year. They are evidently not deterred from doing so by the unavailability of flavored cigarettes. So what possible logical basis is there for the argument that non-tobacco flavored e-cigs are a "gateway" to tobacco?

Even if we grant, purely for rhetorical purposes, that the "gateway" theory is true, banning flavors would still achieve the opposite of the intended effect. If only tobacco-flavored e-cigs were available, then wouldn't that make a transition to real tobacco MORE likely rather than less so?

Nicorette gum comes in mint, cinnamon and “Fruit Chill, Coated FOR BOLD FLAVOR,” according to the box.

Vodka, according to liquor. com, there is your run of the mill fruit flavors and maple syrup, buttered popcorn, cake, smoked salmon, rainbow sherbet, root beer float, s’mores, red licorice, peanut butter & jelly, strawberry shortcake, bacon, “Loopy” with a colorful label indicating it tastes like Fruit Loops, whipped cream, fruit punch, candy cane and so on. I’m surprised I don’t see more drunk children.

When is the last time you saw a 13 year old buying a frozen apple or cherry pie? How many children do you see raiding the desert trays at high end restaurants?

I constantly hear Lavetra, erectile dysfunction medication, being peddled in gummy bear form. Explain that to your kid’s 3rd grade teacher when he finds your stash, takes it to school and shares it with his friends.

I assume Dickenson and his family only eat hard baked wheat cakes and water to avoid anything flavorful and he’s never been to Starbucks, just sucks on coffee beans when he has to get going in the morning and brushes his teeth with baking soda.

Cigarettes have liquorice and chocolate flavoring added along with humectants. how cigarettes are made - YouTube Guess he’s not worried about those.

Looked at his Food Literacy Awareness Month page. Nice comments guys.

I invite you to trade places with my friend "addicted" to prescription drugs. She has been diabetic since age 10 due to a birth defect in the pancreas, developed pancreatitis, dropped on her back by the hospital and ruined it enough to make sitting and walking both horribly painful while recovering from pancreas surgery, one of the most-painful diseases known to man, then because of the diabetes went blind in 10 seconds of bending over to tie her shoe one day. She is on the highest level of prescription pain meds in addition to insulin. For awhile, Medicare considered it unnecessary to pay for the type of insulin a blind person can use and still get the correct dosage, so she had to pay the difference herself. (It came in a pen where you can count loud clicks to know what dosage you are setting, and was considered luxurious.)

It bothers me that people who spend money in stores that sell flavored alcohol aren't trying to keep adults from buying alcohol, but trying to keep us from quitting smoking. It bothers me that caffeine, which HAS killed kids, is marketed to kids and legally sold to them AND sold in candy flavors.

That's entirely fine. I understand that not everyone can make it to show up at these things. In fact, if everyone did it would probably cause some major chaos in the whole of Sacramento! :)

But the actual numbers, even after repeated info going out on multiple networks, social media, CASAA, email, vendors alerting their customers (like Velvet Cloud in SF did when they did their discount promo) is really frustrating. I don't know what the number of vapers in CA is but I know that there must be at least thousands in easy reach who wouldn't have to even take an entire day off. So the total number we had was... well, I have heard this is the same in many other places as well.

There are enough vendors that could have made it especially up there in the Bay Area.
We have to wait and see whats next........
