Yesturday I charged my battery and last night I switched them out, I was sitting there holding my bolt and the bottom battery cover got really hot. I unscrewed the cover and took the battery out and it was melted at the bottom and looks like it is leaking.

Is this normal? It has only been charged a handful of times. I just got my setup.

This is the bolt, battery, and charger I ordered from madvapes

What type of battery were you using? Protected ICR or IMR? I ask this because IMRs have a higher C rating and would stand a better chance of surviving single-cell use with a 1.6 ohm dual coil carto.

Generally, a single cell 3.7V ICR is better suited to single-coil use with 1.7 to 2.0 ohm low resistance single coil cartos. These will produce a lot of vapor. I would think an IMR 18650 would do OK with a dual coil 1.6 ohm, maybe not.

The battery failed.

I am not sure other than what the website says. The battery just says
BRC 18650 3000mAh
its supposed to be protected

It was this one: Protected 18650 Battery, 3000mAh
ETA: Sorry, about three post went up while I was posting.

From the comments on the page seems other users had problems with these batteries and double coils also.

Bigern - sorry this happened, it must be disappointing. I recommend AW IMR Li-Mn batteries.

The battery you linked to in post #1 is an ICR (protected) battery. Not only the battery failed, the protection circuit may have failed as well.

I use 14650 1050 mAh ICR. No way I would use those on dual coil cartos. The C-rating for the 14650 is way too low. These batteries are fine for single coil low resistance, though.

The thing is, after I switched batteries I did not vape. I switched then was just holding it for about 30 seconds while I was reading something and then I felt the battery cover getting really hot. I never touched the switch just held the body of the bolt.

Doesn't sound like a problem with the Bolt then. Either the battery was bad or the charger is faulty and overcharged it. If you take a look at the reviews on the link to the battery page (the one you posted) you'll see people had problems with these batteries.

Possibility of a short circuit, either the battery B+ to the Bolt case or within the switch. Maybe the switch was stuck in the ON position. Did the battery just come off the charger?

No I had the battery charged earlier yesterday, took it off the charger and I store them in a felt container with no top.
The button was not stuck or anything.

So I have ordered single coil and also a vivi nova tank, what batteries would you all recommend that would still work with my charger?
also what is the mAh nuber and does that matter as far as what carto I am using?

mAh is capacity (not C-rating). The bigger the capacity, the longer the battery will run between charges. Figure one hour of operation with every 100 mAh.

If running single coil low resistance with a single 3.7 V Li-ion battery you can use use either protected ICR or IMR batteries safely. Just get a good quality battery. Some people swear by AW brand, but there are a lot of good brands out there. Ultrafires are generally considered to be the dregs of the Li-ion world even if they are not counterfeits. Low resistance single coil is 1.8 to 2.0 ohms regardless of carto or clearo.
