I watched my sister raise her kid... it was pure hell... he has ADHD ADD and a few other 3 letter discrepencies .... she tried her best but it still wasnt enuf to produce a kid with "average" behavior.... why do most people just automatically assume other peoples kids are "normal" and there should be no reason why parents fail raising the kids into a "normal societal" situation?

    I wasn't normal

EDIT: I am still not normal

One kid we spoiled with love and affection, he was really cute. The other one was really kind of homely. After the age of 4, he was raised outside with the dogs. You'd think the cute one would turn out to be the success but the dog boy is amazing! He became the dominate male in the pack and can run and hunt like no ones business. He taught himself to read, write and use computers (we aren't cruel, we still gave him electronic christmas presents) way before the other kid. We invited him to sleep inside but he decided to keep sleeping out in the barn, though he would bring a rabbit or small deer and drop it on our porch every few days and say "Look what I brought ya pop!" We sent him to college and now he is a zoologist and runs a wolf sanctuary. The cute one works at Dairy Queen. He isn't allowed to come home until he makes something of himself.

I have an example of what you're proposing.

Spoiling him stopped before age 2.

He's 11 and it's still an uphill battle undoing it.

I constantly bleed through my heart of what he's missed dedicating time and effort to repairing that.

Reference the video of my reading 3 yr old who's now learning multiplication and cleans up after himself.

    I learned from my mistakes.

Yeah I can't stand Dr. Oz either. He was included sarcastically.

I still spoil my daughters to date. It what this dad does...yet they know I spoil them not because they need to be spoiled but because that is me. I don't expect anyone else to be me. If I did, I wouldn't be me.

Doors won't slam for crap in my house, except the front door, and it's got such beautiful glasswork, I wouldn't DARE slam it. The first day when we started moving in, and the reality hit me, WE'RE HOMEOWNERS!, the best was when I realized that that beautitful front door is NOW MINE! :D

I think since menopause finally occurred, most of my tempers have also grown cold; that's maybe the very best thing about menopause, no more monthly hormonal insanity! When I think of how I used to be, it just makes me TIRED.

What is it with front doors. It took my wife 10 months and then 4 grand to pick out our front door. I was fine with the 500 steel special. 5 years latter and she still comment on how beautiful the front door is (yes glass too). I am afraid to get near it in fear I would break it.

We have a rule in ours that no one slams a door or I get iphones for a week. It is a pretty good deterrent. These kids can't live without an iphone.

Well, the front door is the very first impression of a home -- I loved this house right from the get-go, and I'm sure part of that was because of the GORGEOUS front door. Though it was when I saw the ENORMOUS kitchen that I said Ok, I'm home, let's sign the papers. :D
