Well I guess this is more of a two part question, but here we go.
1st question is about the ohms that I'm receiving with my setup. I'm using 28 gauge kanthal that I picked up from a local vape store, and is there different kinds of kanthal? Every time I see most builds on here 28 gauge is being wrapped 8-10 time to receive an ohm reading of about 1 ohm. But when I did 8 wraps with the kanthal I have received 2 ohms. So I'm rocking 4-5 wraps for a 1.5 ohm. Did I purchase a high resistance kanthal? Or is there something I'm missing when building?

2nd question is with my current setup I'm getting a little more throat hit then I'd like, I read the RM2 coil thread and it said that super_x_drifter drilled out his air hole to 1/16" to lower the TH, is that something I should look into doing, or are there any other suggestions.
Thanks in advance, you guys are great!

in regards to your coil, what is the inner diameter of the coil?

Resistance is determined by the length of the kanthal you're using.

Kanthal comes in different gauges. The higher the gauge, the more resistance it will have over a given length. Also as you go higher in gauge the wire get's thinner.

You can adjust TH a couple of diff ways. I find nicotine level to be the biggest factor, more nic = more TH. You can drill out your airhole to increase the ratio of air to vapor more air = less TH. Also, by positioning the coil up & down relative to the airhole, a lower coil will give more TH because less air is passing over the entire coil increasing the density of the vapor.

As above. Also you can try moving the coil up and down. Up increases TH and a lower coil makes less TH. Move your coil down before you drill. It could get you close to where you want to be. If not brass is very easy to drill and very easy to mess up if you decide to drill go slow and easy. I've drilled out just using my fingers and the bit, but a pin vice or even a drill motor will work.

I'm using a 1/16" drill bit, which is a 16 gauge I believe. And I vape 12 mg, it hasn't really been a problem with me till this rba. And I always position the air hole. Which means I think I should drill out the air hole.

I think moving your coil will give you the right TH. I don't drill mine. I really want just a little TH. So I keep my coil further away from the air hole. Down and back some. I use a coil with 28g around a 1/16 music wire. Using 8 wraps gives me a 1.0 ohm coil.

You might have got a higher ohm Kanthal wire. I am thinking maybe a 32 gauge.

Janky, can you post a pic of your build one from directly above and one from an angle do we can diagnose it better

I don't drill my airhole for TH related reasons and I'm not sure how it impacts it. What does affect it is coil relationship to it horizontally and vertically.

I drilled mine cause I like a loose draw. :)

If that is actually 28 gauge, that coil should be less than an ohm. Maybe try tightening the screws and see if that makes a difference.

Push your coil down closer to the deck to lessen the throat hit. If that doesn't do it for you, wrap another coil and place it out further to the rim, closer to the air hole and as low to the deck as you can get it.

Ok thanks for all the help. I'm moving the coil up and down. Re building and re building. I I think I'm getting the hang of placement and all of this. I now understand the "learning curve." With each build the vape seems to get better and better. I honestly think I have 30-32g wire but like I said I have more in mail, so again thanks for all your help and input!
