I have a small LED Flash light that I would like to mod into an e-cig.

It has a round battery holder that will hold 3 AAA batteries in series, I know I could just slap 3 10440 inserted in Parallel for a 3.7 1800 mah tooter. But I would like to do a single battery mod for this with the highest Mah ratting possible.

What size battery would fit an LED min flashlight that holds the tubular style 3 AAA battery holder?

OR

Do they make 10440 1000 MAH batteries so I can parallel them to 3000mah?

You could just put an Avery address label on your 600mah 10440 cells and call them 1000mah.

Sort of what the manufacturer did with the 300mah 10440 cells you have :)

Think about it. If a 10440 cell is 600 mah, why are most 14500 cells between 600 and 700 mah?

and yes an 18650 fits in a 3 AAA flashlight (see my profile album) but an 18500 would be easier.

and using the Avery label trick you could make it a 3000mah 18500 mod :)

(hope you can read between the sarcasm :))

do you know exactly the length of one from tip to ....?
The lengths will vary by as much ~3mm. Figure about 68mm for 18650 protected cells.

The little plastic 3 cell carrier in those flashlights is just about the same length as an 18500, ~53mm.

An 18500 is a decent cell, especially with LR offerings. Not only better vapetimes than a 14500 but higher initial loaded volts.

I'm too old to try to cram an 18650 into a torch, that's Rocket's specialty.

And I never use the original PCB (especially useless as a source of GND). You can make one out of almost anything. A common nut/bolt makes a good terminal, there is no reason to have a spring on both ends like the torches use for their carrier.

Most 3000mah cells you see are not.
(except the really expensive ones)
The Ultrafire Big Red 3000 is about 2200 to 2400mah at best and has a current limit of about 2.5 amps.
Many knock this cheap cell because it can't handle high powered flashlights or LR vaping.
No kidding folks. It is not a "low internal resistance" cell but has a properly configured low current protection circuit on it.
It is not designed, or capable of supporting a severe application. It will fail if you abuse it.
In fact,,,,, most failures have been in $100 flashlights in a stacked battery configuration.
The protection circuit has been blamed for problems with this cheap cell. It seems to always cut out when drawing more than design current. Go figure.

Internal cell resistance also becomes important as current draw does up. Higher current applications need a over current trip point higher than 2 to 3 amps. That's the reason for the extra mosfet switches on the protection board. 1,2 or 3 switches for a max of 3, 6, or 9 amps.

Knock the cheap cells all you want. Just don't try and use them when your application calls for a cell with higher capability. You want to run a big flashlight? Get a better cell. Run LR atties? Get a better cell. Run stacked Li-ion cells? Run for the hills :)

Why don't you folks knock the vendors that sell the $3 to $4 cheap cells at $10 to $14?
If I had to pay $13.99 plus shipping for a Ultrafire Big Red, or $16.99 for a AW cell, which one would I choose? But at 4 for $12, and a lower current application, which one now?

Don't do cheap for high demand applications.

ok Guys thanks for all the help and Rocket thank you for the spec info on these.
Upon your reply I went and did a little research and settled on a pair of these:

TrustFire Protected 18650 3.7V True 2400mAh Rechargeable Lithium Batteries (2-Pack) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

These seem to be the best option for my project. I have also rethought the whole flash light mod and decided I don't want a tube mod as badly as I thought. I stopped by my local Rat-shack and picked up this nifty project box:

Project Enclosure (3x2x1") - RadioShack.com

This project box looks like it'll fit 2 18650's. I can then parallel them and add a female RCA connector in it (Hot Wired) so I can use an RCA to 510 connector so I can use my eGo quick usb charger.

kaos,
how about these cells. DealExtreme might come in before Christmas.
TrustFire Protected 3.7V 2400mAh 18650 Lithium Battery (2-pack)

How about an eGo connector from GoodProphets, and an extra 510 connector to hook up your eGo charger.
The eGo connector is fairly "meaty", and is "sort of compatible" with eGo type cartos.

That's gonna be a bit tricky.

Those cells are about 68.4mm. The ID of that box is ~71.1mm. Two cells side by side will leave you with about ~8mm for the rest of yor stuff. A 510 connector is about ~10mm across. That's assuming you completely gut that box.

Do yourself a favor and go get the larger RS box, the extra inch in length will make a world of difference and you won't have to completely gut it.

Whoa! thanks for the heads up there Rocket. I didn't realize DX was in Hong Kong!

Oh I do not want to use any type of 510 connector for charging other than the connector that is for the atty. The reason why is if I loan this to anyone I want to make sure they don't stick a carto into hot port and fry an atty or burn themselves .

I have a male RCA jack on a 4' length of cable attached to a 510 connector already wired up, so a female RCA recessed jack is a perfect charge port with no danger of one of my not so smart friends being able to stick an atty in it. lol

And willy you might be right on the space, but I would like to keep the 3" length form factor as much as possible. if two will not fit I can always just use one. lol these trust fires appear to be a TRUE 2400 mah rating and 2400 mah is a good chunk of vape time. I can live with 2400 mah if need be. Heck with the charge port and the ego charger attached to it I can use it as a pass through if I have to. lol will just need to use a 3 ohm carto or higher when I do because i will be then vaping at 5 volts off the usb.
