Ok, I get it now. Why did I resist so long?

So within the last month I finally used my last carto/tank and bought a Kayfun and a few mech mods. Huge upgrade! Its fun building coils and the vapor is far superior and much more satisfying. On a whim the other day, I bought a Smoke Catapillar RDA because they are so cheap and I've never dripped before. Built a dual coil (28g) and I'm sitting at .6 ohms . . .

Holy cow! Is this what I've been missing all along? The flavor, airflow, and vapor production are fantastic! I never thought I would get into dripping as it just seemed like a pain compared to tank systems. I'm now a convert. I'll still bring my Kayfun to work and on trips out of town, but I really REALLY love dripping. It seems I can get a good 20-30 huge hits from the Catapillar before I need to add more juice, so its really not that bad. I've had to drip about 3 times today but its not a big deal at all. Totally worth it.

I was very late in the game with RDAs, and now I see what I've been missing. Anyone thinking about making the leap to RDAs should really give it a shot! I can whole-heartedly recommend the Smok Catapillar as a first RDA. Its super cheap (around $15 for an AUTHENTIC atomizer) really easy to build on, and produces excellent vapor with the perfect amount of airflow.

"Resistance is futile" ;)

I tried dripping for the first time just recently, and like you OP, I thought, "what have I been missing???"

Of course, the person who let me use his dripper put Five Pawns Grandmaster in it because he knows it's my favorite. It was so good dripped I almost cried. (actually, I may have cried)

Dripping atty's and mech mod orders coming in fast and furious now... lol ;)

Welcome the the addiction, several months ago when I picked up my first RDA I was hit with an epiphany just like you. Now I own a dozen mods and atomizers and can't stop buying anything/everything to do with them.

Have you purchased a bottom feeder in your frenzy? It put the brakes on the shinyitis for me.

I'm curious as to why so many mods?
Is there a practical reason for this?
Are you buying clone mods to get different looks?

I started rebuilding Kanger coils a year ago, have a couple Kayfuns, and regulated devices that I typically vape at 12-15W.
Use a 510 style "drip atty" for those flavors not "tank worthy".
I've tried mech/RDA at local B&M and there is no doubt about the flavor/satisfaction you can get.
My lifestyle and job is such that RDA/mech would only be practical at home---why would one need dozens of these?

Not trying to be a jerk with the question, your insight may be helpful in how I spend my $$.
(For example, when I got my first EGO, I bought several different colored EVOD tanks to differentiate different flavor types. This was much more convenient than have 1 or 2 tanks that I constantly had to clean when changing to an very different flav.)

Thanks!

I know EXACTLY what you mean. For several years I was a dyed-in-the-wool ego/carto/clearo fan and figured the rest of the 'hobby' was fine for those who needed something more, but I was happy so long as I was able to stay away from cigarettes. About 2 months ago I got my first RDA and WOW.... I have spent the last 2 months now upgrading all of my equipment I'm finally at a comfy place with a mech, a vamo, an ace, 4 rdas, 3 Kayfuns and enough 18650s to keep me easily rotating through them. I LOVE building coils, the flavor is fantastic and while I'm not a cloud chaser by any means, the improved vapor is amazing as well. I can now settle down and save up for things as I find them that I want. I would like to get a nice provari. Maybe a good Christmas present :vapor:

The mods are usually for looks but some do perform and hit better due to the construction and metal used. But the RDA's themselves all have quirks of their own that change how they perform or what they are good for.

I started into RDA's with a Veritas, nice flavor and great design but a PITA to build on.
Next was a Tugboat, easy to build on and amazing flavor with good cloud production.
Most recent was a Plume Veil, very easy build dual positive block is a dream with good flavor and amazing cloud production.
On order and killing me with the wait is an Orchid v2 so I have a tank option while driving.

I wick mine with rayon so using the same topper all I gotta do to change flavor is drip a new flavor and voila.

Oh and all of my RDA's are clones that still work very well for those of us that can't afford to drop 85-180 dollars for each topper.

Chipotle.

I made a dual 18650 box bottom feeder, and while I did love it I couldn't get over the suck-back juice flavor that would eventually seep from my older wick down into the juice bottle. It's currently in pieces on the desk next to me.

I like to vape lots of flavors throughout the day, I'm lazy and can't be bothered to re-wick a device just to change flavor for an hour or so, that sort of escalated with me just liking new toys and stuff. About a dozen 18650's in my battery rotation as well. I'm going to buy more mods and atomizers, just because I want to... it's a great hobby and I tend to go a little overboard with most everything I really enjoy. I sell off a bunch of stuff to friends that doesn't make my "final cut" in my device rotation as well.

My desk next to the computer as I type this:
deskmods.jpg

That's not counting all my rebuildable supplies/batteries/other juice that is in my big gear bag, you can see my bottom feeder hiding in the back being neglected.

Indeed. Dripping is vape nirvana for me now.

When I first started vaping I read/heard about RDAs and thought, "Meh, that sounds like such a PITA. Always having to drip. Using it on a mech would make it even harder as one needs to constantly check their battery voltage."

Well, I finally broke down and got a Plume Veil just to see what all the fuss was about. Put a sub-ohm build in it with rayon, slapped it on my Stingray, took a couple of hits and BAM! I was hooked instantly. It's all I use around the house now.

Quite honestly, the dripping aspect has pretty much become a ritual to me. I actually enjoy it now.

Just remember that there is a bit of a learning curve learning when it is time to re-drip. I had some seriously harsh dry hits when I first started dripping but now, it is very noticeable to me when it's that time again.

I can also tell when my battery is right at 3.7 - 3.6 volts and in need of a charge so I never take the battery out until I know it's time.

so Interesting the way my tastes change. I bought a rda about 3 weeks into vaping journey, because I couldn't get enough vapor from the nautilus I was using, the original bdcs, and chain vaping it went dry ... especially because I didnt know what I was doing yet, and taking too long a draw, like hitting a .... or something..

that tobh and cartel did hit amazing.. but.. like others said, not portable enough for work etc... got a Russian and a good mod, VS rDNA, and ya.. that was awesome and portable.. the rda was a bit warm for me, I thought at the time..

well.. since then, I added a Erlkonigin RTA and its amazing flavor, grabbed a REO bf'er.. from the classifieds. I cycle between enjoying the REO and not..a few missed sqonks and a dry hit, will have me put it down for a few days, only to come back and play with it some more.

this weekend, I rebuilt that tobh and dripped all weekend. now, I enjoyed the warmer airy hit again. it still stays at home though. work is about the Erlkonigin, the REO, and a nautlius again on the VS.. the BVC's have been good upgrade and I like the bonus capacity of the full size Nautilus

I got 2 answers for that (though I'm not the one asked):

1: you can get lots of cheap tube mods - backups
2: a mod is a convenient place to store a charged battery
