Ok so I was the ONLY smoker in my social circle. Haven't been around analog smoke since I stopped vaping basically. Except for the occasional lingering smoke in the doorway of public places or smelling smoke on a passerby.

Today, on my weekly grocery trip, I was walking up the bread aisle and it hit me. There was a handsome man coming towards me and at first I got a whiff of what reminded me of my Turkish Blend if I actually smoked it instead of vaped it. Found it quite pleasant. As he drew nearer, the smell combined with the smoke and I found myself unable to breathe deeply. How weird after smoking for as long and as much as I have. Oddly my son didn't smell it (maybe because of the teens in his school carrying that smell on their clothes)

On the next aisle, picking up salad fixings, I smelled it before I turned around. It seemed to be even stronger this time. Again, I found myself losing my breath and even my son commented on it. Long after the gentleman had left the aisle, the cloying smell and effect lingered. We stayed on that aisle to reduce any possiblity that we would run into him again. Up until now I could smell smokers just fine and they never had that effect. Leaving the store, I was caught in someone's after-smoke and the same thing happened tho this smelled like plain Marlboro.

After being around absolutely 0 smoke is this the way its going to be? Maybe I need to pick up an occasional analog. I don't want to be trapped in my house by giving up smoking because I can't breathe around smoke... Weird.

Well I would say thats a good thing. My mom has always .....ed about my cigarette smell to me, so I am wondering whats it going to be like to be like her, lol.

I was looking forward to it and quite enjoying it...until now. LOL Maybe my body thought I was trying to stuff another analog in and was trying to shut all the doors!

I own my own home and have a roommate. It's not often that he smokes cigarettes. When he does, I request he does it in his area of the house due to my pet birds. If there's one thing that can kill a cockatiel, it's smoke. I was in bed about a week ago and swore I smelled cigarette smoke. I thought it was possibly the old smell of smoke still lingering in my pillow. I sat up for a few seconds and noticed I could still smell it. I peeked my head out of my bedroom door and the smell was super strong. It turns out my buddy was smoking in his bedroom, and the AC was circulating it through the house. It didn't exaclty make it hard to breathe. I was just surprised I even noticed it.

Smoking sure doesn't seem to do any harm to budgies....we had three when I was young and both my parents heavily smoked and the budgies all lived to a ripe old age for budgies.

This seems way over the top to me....sounds like something from ASH. You should get checked by your doctor because third hand smoke doesn't have any science behind it, and your breathing difficulties must have another cause. I suspect exaggeration. If not, be prepared for someone to say the same thing about you vaping.

I would like to further comment. If this is the way e smokers who were smokers only a very short time are going to fill the media with exaggerated tales, then I don't want to fight for vapors' rights. I would rather go back to my Marlboros than become one of the anti-smokers.

good grief....

It's true. If you don't think the media and FDA are snooping around on here, making note of every post with any negative connotation to use against us, you're sadly mistaken....whether it's something as lighthearted as this, or something more serious.

Not just snooping but also posing as e smokers and posting in the forums. They will stop at nothing. ASH sees this as a blow to the denormalization campaign against smokers because it looks like smoking. That is their main objection. If members of this community think they are not on here, take a look at some of the language used by supposed e smokers when discussing smoking: disgusting, ashtray breath, etc. etc.

I agree - if I never smoke a real ciggy again I hope I never fall prey to the "there is none so righteous as a reformed....... " syndrome.
I totally agree with you and Sherid! I'm 48 too and I've never seen or heard of anyone smoking in a grocery store. Good for the poster if they were able to quit smoking, but keep your unwanted comments to yourself.:p

The most suspicious part of this poster's "story" was that it was not someone smoking at the grocery store. It was "3rd hand smoke" that made her unable to breathe. A POSER of the worst kind.

yep i would entirely agree.. anyone who smoked for real and even enjoyed doing it who now finds the smell of someone else doing it breath takingly offensive must be a wee bit odd..

it does seem common comment on here tho.. part of whats needed to keep on the straight and narrow perhaps..
