My mom has smoked over 30 years and has wanted to QUIT for 30 years!

I told her ALL about the electronic cigarette and the statistics and the ingredients and how it makes you feel like your smoking a cigarette.
She said she's very interested and wants to talk to me about how to buy it tomorrow, and that she's EXCITED to try it out!

You have no idea how happy I am that my mom is going to try this!
...
Although I don't know WHAT PV to buy her. She JUST got a labtop for the first time in her life, hasn't touched a keyboard since a month ago. So i'll have to teach her the ways of the internet and once we find out what kind of PV and juice she'll get, i'll teach her how to order more with her card.

I really want her to get the best thing that will help her. She smokes about a pack of Salem menthol lights everyday, sometimes more. She's ALWAYS smoked Salem menthol lights, never touched anything else.

Anyone have any suggestions what kind of PV would suit her needs? She's not very tech savvy either, so preferably something that wouldn't require allot of maintenance.

Was it hard for them to learn the mechanics?
My mom is impatient like me and I don't want her to get discouraged if she's not getting her vapor quite right and just picks up an analog instead.

I was thinking maybe the VK since it doesn't require as much "fooling around" with?
I have a 510 and love it, i'm just really worried how my mom is going to react to the maintenance you know what I mean?

Not at all. My mom actually started using the PTB mod within days.

I was there for advice and help the entire time, online and on the phone. My folks live in Iowa, and I live in Georgia. I just made sure they had all the info they needed to make a good start of it.

Definitely recommend she gets some good flavored juice like cappucino as well as a good tobacco flavor. My mom loves cappucino juice.

Congrats on both of you! I too, got my mom into vaping. My biggest concern was if she would be able to keep up w/it all but she's a vaping queen! She hasnt touched an analog since her first vape and amoked for 43 yrs! Yay for our moms! -Shows how bad they really wanted to quit too. I know my mom has had several failed attempts but this time for good!

:) Its nice to have a support system, as well...

Awesome! Ok, so I guess i'll go ahead and give her the 510.
I'm gonna talk to her about preferred flavors.
I tried a prefilled tobacco flavor from Rocky Mountain Vapor and IMO it tasted horrible, don't know if she'd like it.

I guess i'll just send her a little instruction pamphlet i'll make up along with the kit. I'll also get her an extra battery charger and a car pass through, knowing how much she smokes lol.

Yeah, the prefilled carts are awful in a lot of places. But RMV's cappucino juice is really good. My mom got the 50ml bottle of it, the price isn't bad.

Your mom said not to say...
You guys really should think about what your doing before you just throw those recommendations out there. This woman is not a good candidate for the 510 at all think about it for a minute.

I am going to go under the assumption that this woman is 1) older 2) not going to want to play with filling carts 3) was a Salem and Salem light smoker, a 510 is going to hit a bit heavy for her 4) not very tech savvy so she won't be doing mods to deal with juice issues.

This woman is a perfect candidate for something like the KR808D-1 if there ever was one. She would have a minimum of fuss with the carts and from what I understand the carts will last her a lot longer. I say it like that because I have not tried a KR808D-1 as of yet but have done the research and have one on order that should be here on Monday.

I have a 510 and it hits great but I don't think I would recommend that model to my mother or anyone elses for that matter. The older folks are not going to want to fiddle with this thing, I can tell you that right now. My mother would throw the thing down 30 minutes after she picked it up or whenever it ran out of carts, and I know tons of others that are the same way.

I have a m410 Dragon from Truesmoker that I have shown my mother and let her try and she wants one of those for herself. She liked the idea of the auto battery, the size, and the way it hit. She was amazed. As much as I like my 401 model and prefer it over the 510 for taste I would still try to steer them towards a cartomizer style first. It is just so much simpler and a lot less to play with for the older person looking to try it out. If they find that they want a bigger hitter then they can move on to it, and have no problem at all finding a buyer for the KR808D-1 if they find that they don't like it. They might even find the Greencigs to their liking as well despite the higher price, it's hard to say with these. This is one of those exceptions to the "you get what you pay for rule" I believe, with so many scam sites for these things one has to be careful and read those free trials and monthly auto ship crap. Those are really reeling in the older people from what I have read. Lots of people are up in arms about it and not helping our cause with actions like that.

Thank you so much for your reply.
My biggest worry IS the fiddling.
This woman has smoked 30 years and has an impatient personality (not on a dangerous level) but there wouldn't be anything to stop her from getting frustrated and picking up a salem and "fiddle with it later" and start a little cycle going.

I want the easiest, best PV possible for her. I'll even pay the difference if its more than the 510. Her health means so much to me and it's very important that she's satisfied with this.

The easiest and most appealing PV for someone like your mom would be the two piece model like the Vapor King or Green Cig, both available at Vapor4Life:: Because it's your life :: Electronic Cigarettes & Alternatives to Analog Smoking :: Vape-On Baby! I have practically every model discussed here, and the two piecer has more chance of success with someone like your mom.

Ok. I'm older he he, but I like to tinker with things and have alot of time to kill at work so the 510 is working out beautifully for me. If your mom doesn't mind the work involved she will love it. If not I would have to recommend a KR808D like Snarkytone suggested even though I haven't tried one. I have read all over the forums here just how good they are and if I didn't like my 510 so much I'd buy one.

That's the beauty of a forum your allowed to disagree.

Actually, I'm allowed pretty much everywhere. :D

If I'm going to recommend a device to a first time vaper, I'm going to recommend something that is reliable, cost effective, and will give them a positive vaping experience right off the bat. A great experience will help them make the transition, a bad experience, especially with an older person, can make them just shrug it off and go back to smoking. They aren't going to want to give it a lot of time to become enjoyable.

The 510 is a solid device. It's a workhorse. And filling 510 carts is cheaper than buying cartomizers on another model. It's an awesome introduction to vaping, as well as a great PV for the non-newbie. It can give great performance straight out of the box, and first impressions last. Many older folks don't have a lot of disposable income, so the cheaper the better.

From their first vape with the 510, my parents were hooked, and after a couple of days, they've been smoke free. It's literally a miracle. I never thought they would quit. My father was really skeptical about the whole e-cig thing, but the 510 worked for him. He's gone from being pretty much confined to the house all day due to medical issues to walking his dog three blocks without a problem. He hasn't been able to do that in a couple of years.

And of course, I would never recommend to someone to try to quit smoking by using an e-cig without being there to help them every step of the way. That also makes a huge difference.
