Hi everybody.

I also got my Mom to quit smoking using an e-cigg. She wanted me to ask a question for her. She's been vaping for 3 weeks now. Recently, my Mom said she had some tightness in her chest. I was hoping other's might have some ideas about what may be causing this. If it is e-cigg related or not, possibly PG related, or just quitting smoking, ect. I thought I may have seen a post about this a couple weeks ago but not sure where it went. She has quit a 40 year habit.

Thank you so much for helping my Mom out with figuring this out.

edit-- just so you guys know she does have an appointment with her doctor but it's not untill the 30th so that's why she asked me to ask.

I had a history of asthma and I found that if the VG was higher than 20 - 25% I would get that feeling, especially at night. If that's the case, vaping an all or high percentage juice for a few hours should show a difference in my experience. Please post when you figure it out because I know it'll help other vapers. Good luck!

If in doubt, see a doctor for something like a tight chest first of all.

It could be PG irritation and it could be nicotine irritation. Both can irritate your lungs and throat.

I did get that heavy lungs feeling when I vaped pg and found I'm really intolerant to it now. I vape vg only now and it's a world of difference.

It could be that they're vaping too much, like when I first started I vaped a ton and the next day I felt awful - like I'd smoked 40 cigs the day before.

Also, it could be their lungs trying to clear the guff out of themselves from all the years of smoking but it seems less likely than just irritation from nic or pg IF it's vaping related.

Try out vg liquids and try out lower nicotine levels.

Goes without saying, check with a doctor. I didn't have a tightness in my chest, more like a heaviness in my chest. For me, it was too much VG.

Because my mother is elderly and has COPD, I first got her EcoPure juice which is 100% VG. She has a similar experience although it could have been general quit smoking symptoms but when I got her BWB juice which is I think 70pg/30vg she felt better.

All of this is really anecdotal though. I think you have to experiment. It may not even be related to the juice.

Thanks to the both of you. My Mom is going to her heart doctor November 30th. I also mentioned it could be that the nicotine level is to high, as well as PG irritation. I'm planning on getting her lower level nic, and higher level VG juice as soon as I can.

Leftfeild, I also thought it may be her lungs trying to clear out as well since she smoked for such a long time.

440426 - when my mom first tried high PG, she couldn't handle it. I'm not sure if it's that, but I also don't want my mom to try high PG and irritate things either ya know?

Thanks swedishfsh. Since it has been a little while and she's use to vaping maybe I can try to get her to vape some of my 70pg/30vg. Just don't wanna make things worse.

Figures after I post this my Mom tells me how she's had tightness in chest before she quit smoking, however she did say this time felt "different".

Any other input from others who have delt with this personally would be highly appreciated.

To me, VG is denser, heavier. This may be why it bothered me. I run, and a few people in the health section that run mentioned the same thing. That's when I figured it might be the VG for me and it seemed to be. I can see the PG being an irritant. If I vape too much, it can be irritating to my throat. But talking about heaviness in the chest, I don't experince that with too much PG. I did with VG. But that's me.

In the past I have asked about asmtha. Someone in the know said that ecigs can't help serious asthma. But their are still many other benefits of vaping. If nothing else, she could help her daughter quit smoking.

So far the higher PG has been a good idea and my Mom tells me "It feels much lighter and easier now".

Hopefully that'll do the trick! Thanks swedishfish and zenoland for that tip!

wdave, honestly I feel like my mild asthma may very well be gone thanks to vaping. Yes they're are without a doubt so many benefits. Within the first week my Mom was vaping, she could finally sleep at night. When she smoked sometimes she would wake up in the middle of the night, trying to catch her breath and now that problem is gone. That fast. Its amazing!

Thanks all, I'll update this later!
