PCP (horse tranquilizer laced weed) emerged around the Paraquat days.
Nasty stuff that is still around today...
Wonder if that is what it was, I will never forget it and why I have no desire to do any weed. I never want to feel that way again, it was horrible!

Someday I'd love to hear about that thing called parental responsibility again, and personal responsibility..

It used to be big when I was a kid.. seems it's fallen out of favor..

Those parents thought they were being responsible by sending the kid to 40 days of rehab. They are also relatively affluent as 40 days of inpatient rehab for a juul sure wasn't covered by their insurance carrier and those places are not cheap. So in this case it was easier to pay their way out of the situation.

As to addiction, nicotine is addictive. One's propensity to become addicted is governed by multiple genetic factors, not a single gene, which is why there is such variability in a population. The same is true for opiates. Most who use opiates for a short period of time (or even longer for chronic conditions) will not become addicted (dependent is not addiction or a substance use disorder). Another person may take one tablet and be left craving more. The problem is figuring out who is at greatest risk and how to minimize that risk. Pretty much like nicotine. There will always be an outlier like this kid going through 4 pods of juul a day, while most teens may take one or two puffs and never return to it, or if they do, not for a week or two. It's tough to make rational policy relying on the outlier's experience.

Since we have nicotine receptors and it crosses the blood brain barrier I would say addiction to nicotine is very real. But it seems to depend on the individual also. Not everyone gets as addicted as the next person. I definitely had trouble giving up cigarettes, my brain would play tricks on me, that feeling of panic, got to have it now craving. The irritation and agitation while quitting. it took all my will power and vaping to quit smoking. Was not easy for me, but doable. Nicotine dependence - Symptoms and causes

No need to convince me. It's the others.

Hope you don't take this the wrong way but I'm not interested in reading horse.... about nicotine not being addictive. Many years of personal experience tells me otherwise. Anyways I didn't specifically mention nicotine...I said...

''I can tell you with some confidence there are plenty medical professionals who do not believe in addiction full stop.'' I meant they don't believe in the concept of addiction. Addiction. Not just nicotine addiction.

Yes, I forgot about that. Today "off the street" purchased weed can be laced with fentanyl or other drugs like embalming fluid (formaldehyde).

IMHO, if you purchase off the street, you have no idea if your stuff has been adulterated. Your point of sale dealers have no idea if their product has been adulterated before they got it. It may be more expensive than buying off the street, but the safest bet is to buy regulated and tested product from a dispensary.

It is so true about brain wiring, the more we react a certain way, the more we are paving that response road. It takes effort to rewire and pave new ways of responding to certain stimuli but it can be done. Even emotional rewiring can be done just like addiction rewiring. When I quit smoking I had to literally tell myself, vape first, wait 15 min and see if you still want a cigarette. I had to have a new conversation with my brain LOL

I have never vaped 50 nic mg ejuice and that's what Juul contains at 5%. Years ago even handling 50 mg had warnings. It's no wonder kids could get nicotine poisoning from too much. I agree the article is to play on emotions but it's possible he did have nic poisoningView attachment 838531 JUUL is a high nic product and people should know that. There is something else about Juul that is troubling, it says it's pods have oil in them, a big no no for vaping. Personally I would never vape one, too high of nic for me and I don't trust anything with oil in it for vaping.
Is this for real, no way you want oil on your lungs natural or not

From the third article: "But there now appears to be at least one instance where marijuana has tested positive for this savage opioid (fentanyl). It happened just last week in upstate New York."

Yep, not too far from where I live. This is one of the reasons the NYS DoH study on cannabis endorsed legalization. It failed by two votes. But no matter, because until it's done nationally this will continue and it's probably just getting started.

But no. Let's ban flavored e-cigs and expand the black market instead of trying to cripple it.

I remember both of those. Paraquat you could generally see that the weed was yellow/brown and tasted like crud. PCP is very strong... tried it twice, never again (described it as felt like my brain turned into oatmeal and was running out of my ears)

From the article. From the LOVE of all that is HOLY.

And Luka has made it his mission to inform as many people as possible about the issues he said he’s faced as a result of vaping, so that others won’t have to learn the hard way as well.

He's the Jarod of vaping. And I mean that in the absolute MEANEST way possible: liar, deceptive, revolting fat or skinny, possible molester material.

Luka, I would love to have a chat with you and at the end of it, you would not be happy. You would be desperately, desperately sorry. For the rest of your life.

There are things you can do to snowflakes.... They melt.

From the article:

It was about a year after he started vaping that, at 15, Luka in September 2018 suffered a medical scare that left him unconscious for six minutes.

That's like enough for brain damage, but not enough for the kind of brain damage that renders you unable to be a spokesperson. In fact, it is almost enough to be PERFECT in making you a spokesperson.

Life, why you be doing this to me? I WAS supposed to go to rehab first I SWEAR. I was like, ready for knitting group, throwing goodwill plates at the cinderblock wall group, I was prepared to walk the labyrinth with my rehab-LIFE partner.

So many good things were going to happen. I was going to leave, and like relapse immediately, but those thirty days were gonna be SOMETHING.

I genuinely maybe sort of, only he's a DAMN LIAR but he seems dumb enough to not know nicotine is addictive, but also manipulative enough to say he didn't know.

Isn't that EVERY teen's defense? Like, "I did not know!" That and "My drink was SPIKED."

The latter one was my kid's favorite. I used to tell him he'd been roofied so often he should wear a condom 24-7, someone found him ATTRACTIVE.

I hate that this little tool got to nicotine rehab before me! It's NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!|
