making a blanket statement that equates to "i find the mechanicals I have inconvenient, therefor all mechanicals must be inferior to a device I do find convenient" is a logical fallacy

That sounds like more of an opinion made by a fellow poster than a fanatical core belief to me. I would find such issues inconvenient as well. Subjective opinions are a persons own opinions. I can't objectively state that a regulated mod is any better than a mechanical mod because it's a matter of opinion. And the only opinion we should really be trying to zero in on is that of the OP's.

Got a video tutorial link to that? Never heard of it.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...3020-r91-clone-w-ss-wick-great-success-3.html

This is the link that inspired me. YouTube videos are few and far between and in a different language, but you can get the picture real quick

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Std9GIVTa7k

This one is a far cleaner version of what I did, mine was pretty sloppy but works far better (IMO) than any cotton setup I ever built for my R91.

can we continue this in PM as to not disturb the thread any farther?

i have a nice chi you clone. i rarely use it.
it's cool looking. but the pieces unscrew often. some times i set it down and forget to lock it. luckily i usually lay it down sideways or i take my topper off and store it upside down.

The Chi You is a serious pain. I'll bet that's one of the ones Xander has. I had mine for a week before I traded it. Theres a reason the nemesis is so popular, it works well. I think the most convenient mech I have has to be a Kylin, Pisces clone. Voltage drop is terrible though.

OP, if you want something that'll function like your SVD but not break in 6 months, the provari is that device. I outgrew mine, you may or may not. Know that if it doesn't suit your wants, someone will take it off your hands at a pretty minimal loss, certainly less of a loss than buying another junk mod.

what makes you think I have?

I have concluded my interest in furthering this debate. If you have an interest in sending me a PM, be my guest. I have however put the details of the arguments out of my interest because I'm honestly not altogether too familiar with mechanical mods. If you wish to educate me privately, then please do. Otherwise, lets set aside our differences. Any further debate within this thread is liable to bring it to the attention of the moderators and it may be closed. I'd prefer to allow it to stay open so that we can further the interests of the OP. And remember...

The beast is watching...

I agree with the controlled consistent vape of the Provari, but doesn't the kick regulate wattage and keep it stable throughout the battery life too? I'm just trying to better understand the kick because I do have an interest in acquiring a mechanical down the road
If you don't mind a bit of a bedtime story, here goes :)

Had an eVic, but with my travel, knew I needed a backup, so got a nemesis. It was ok, but the strong vape with new battery, and it slowly dying off SUCKED, so I picked up a kick for it. My evic eventually died (9mos old!), so I used the Nemesis and kick until my ProVari came in. Bought a second ProVari for a backup last week- could not go back to the mech+kick--or any other mod if I lost or broke the ProVari.

The kick.... First, the wattage adjustment was a potentiometer, not a switch, so setting a good wattage was a crap shoot at best. Secondly, it felt like there was a bit of lag as it fired, which makes sense- most VV/VW devices are always idling, granted not really drawing much if anything, but they are ready to go much sooner. It's like the kick had to boot up before firing. Granted it was only a few milliseconds, but add that in with the time it took to read the resistance in order to set the wattage, it was rough to say the least. I didn't notice any rattlesnake effect going on, which was a good thing, but you could tell a fresh battery vs one that has had some time on it vs one ready to die. Wasn't a huge difference, but it was noticible. Finally, they are a bit fiddly to get making good contact all the time. IMHO, they are not a replacement for a good regulated device, but rather a nice accessory for someone who has a collection of mech mods, and wants an option to use them in situations when fiddling with swapping batteries etc would be a pain (like at a concert, or on a few hour road trip etc). Just my opinion however

For durability and reliability NOTHING beats a mech mod.

You could take a copper Nemesis, bury it in the dirt, leave it for 1,000 years, dig it up, clean it off, toss a battery in it and it would work. I doubt you could do the same with a Provari.

And before you say mech mods aren't regulated, they most definitely can be.

a rabid mech convert if i ever saw one:D. btw.. i can almost touch that copper now...easy does it.

A good opinion it is. Thanks for clarifying. Dang dude, 9 months on an Evic is impressive, which is unfortunate. I was entranced by the Evic when I started with my Ego batteries, but then I did my research. Smart of me I suppose.

The vape lounge I lurk at is an exclusive joyetech vendor and I watched a guy come in and buy a brand new Evic and 3 control heads. THREE control heads. The dude said his wife was clumsy and dropped them frequently causing them to break, so he wanted backup control heads around. He dropped the money on them like they were disposable. Couldn't believe my eyes. I wanted to recommend a Provari to him because he dropped almost 350 bucks, but I kept my mouth shut because of the revenue it undoubtedly brought in to a vape shop I enjoy hanging out at.

I will acquire a nice mech in the future. With my standards of perfection, it'll probably be an authentic Nemesis or something similar. But my Provari will never leave my possession, and will likely be joined by a black mini sometime this year accompanied by that super nice brass accent kit that one of the Euro manufacturers makes. Can't recall it off the top of my head but its a spendy accessory to a spendy device. That one will be my baby once I get it =]. My satin silver one rides everywhere with me. EVERYWHERE

Also, my boy Xander seems to have a little subtitle below his username that looks like it says Team ECF. Might be wise not to press buttons :admin:

Or do press buttons? :vapor:
Wow! does that mean I'm an admin too?

Oh, and I recommend a ProVari or REO as well. Buy used and save $20. :D

Smart man in many regards. Definitely the cingulum compleo is what I was referring to. Also thanks for enlightening me about folding@home. I just installed in on my computer. And interesting concept to say the least.

When my main computer quit working, I had to stop contributing. The Netbook I use now gets pretty hot if I run F@H on it, so I bide my time for now.

Wow. Thanks everyone for responding. I see there is definate loyalty here and I understand and respect that. As I have products I feel the same way about.....my 14 yr old toyota. Haha. Yes I see mechs are very durable and reliable just not what I think I want at this time even with a kick but thanks for the informative responses regarding those devices as if I ever do want one I can reference these posts. I didnt even know about reo before now so I will definitely look into that option as well. At this time I really do just want simplicity...durability. ..longevity...and options like an ohm reader built in. Thanks again vapers....great community here
