Just lurking cause i'm still feeling beat up at the moment and wanted some me time … HEY how about them Habs!!!!!

I'll post a more detailed update soon but when I'm less angry :) We've essentially been thrown out to the wolves with the only ones standing up for us at the moment are management .... go figure?!? The history at my workplace is ugly but (I would hope) not have anything to do with personal conflict. If it is I’d remind you all that today was anti-bullying day.

I believe though that the local executives of each union has gone rogue. Might be time to ask Smokie Thomas and Gary Gannage to weigh in ... in all of my being, I can't understand why in hell the unions would not want to adopt resolutions that supported vaping  it's a no brainer. I remember not that long ago being at CLC conventions where half the convention floor would be outside smoking, me among them! Need to help these people.

Just as an FYI, all three of the 'refusers' are representatives of the local union. If they are following direction, they are being sorely misinformed despite our attempts to the contrary.

What has happened to my effin rights?!?

I don't get it either Slo. In my case, it would be the management trying to throw me under the bus and the union trying to prevent that. I'm also puzzled, why wouldn't the MOL be talking to any vapors, after all, it's an investigation.

At this point there has been no resolution. The MOL has not completed its investigation and still no one from MOL has asked any questions of the vapers that are known in the building.

Speculation has been that management will be filing a complaint against the unions, (go figue????) on what grounds?? …. Perhaps that the unions did not adequately represent their member’? That’s where I would go with this complaint.

Early days yet as we all know how slowly government works sometime.

IMO, management could be filing a complaint against the union for, on the grounds that the basis for their work refusal is unfounded. Or something to that effect.

So are those three "ring-leaders" gonna change their tune now? What's the reaction been to this? I have been lurking/following this story, and I work at a brick & mortar vape shop (where I'm constantly vaping, in the middle of a mall no less) so I have a very keen interest in hearing what the ultimate outcome of this is. You should definitely pursue the complaints with the union/association though.

It's been a pain in the .... trying to find this every time I want to reference it. So that's pretty much what this post is. :)
Read the final verdict and laughed. So much headache and angst to earn the same rights (more or less) that smokers enjoy. Your perseverance and willingness to fight them on this issue may have important ramifications on the future of vaping in Canada as the years pass. Well done!

The decision was provided to us just this afternoon about ten minutes before my post so we'll have to see what happens with this next week and in the weeks to come.

Thanks astounded.

Congrats. plan on mending any bridges?

DKM2, not sure how to answer that? I (we) did nothing to provoke this action. Management put out directives and we have followed and the unions weren't satisfied with that obviously so they pushed it. BTW I can't even begin to imagine the costs (tax payer dollars) that have been consumed unnecessarily in the last two weeks over this issue.

If any bridges need mending its the fact that our labour organization (there are two in this ordeal) did sweet eff A to try and speak with us or for that matter represent our position. They went into this with one side to the story, with preconceived ideas of what they wanted for an outcome. They did nothing to inform themselves, had they, this would have been different. They (IMHO) owe us an apology, which I sincerely doubt will be forthcoming.

I am more inclined to want to escalate this issue than let it die at the moment. There are important lessons learned here that we can evaluate and fix.

Unions are only as strong as their memberships level of involvement. In this case all these union reps were elected by acclimation (they were the only ones to step forward). I come back to my assertion earlier that they were rogue on this issue and it was handled extremely poorly. I don't want to let them forget that. They have a responsibility to all members, not just the ones they choose.

This is the absolute best result we could have hoped for given the mess it's been. Woo HOO!!

No chit Slohand this in fact better than the "best out come" because it creates a precedent. In the history books of vaping it will be known as the Slohand Report / Decision / Incident ......something like that you fill in the blank. Now the thin edge of the wedge becomes policy for the government.

Slohand you should thank those 3 a$$holes for helping vapers in Canada.

EDIT: oops I lt it out of the bag.
