I tried with my husband. Bought him a little Chuck, set everything up, gave him juices, told him what to do. He sees what I do every day, but he just hasn't taken to it. I honestly think he just doesn't want the hassle or effort that goes into ecigs. So, I just gave up! He doesn't smoke nearly as much as I did and I still have to deal with smoking in the house and car, but I am just letting it take it's course and if he wants to get into it again, he'll let me know. I'm just not into trying to force something upon the unwilling.

I've been smoking 2+ packs a day for 20 some odd years. I never wanted to quit smoking. After trying a disposable PV on a lark a couple months ago, I realized it's potential as something to switch to in place of cigarettes.

Right now, I feel as if I am caught in the middle. I don't really enjoy smoking as much as I used too, and I don't always want to use a PV. Currently, I am down to a pack a day without really trying. Quitting smoking was not my goal, however now... it seems stupid not to make the switch.

There have been two things really holding me back from making the full switch.

The first Satharra, is similar to what your husband is dealing with. I have had asthma since I was small child. I've found that vaping can be harder on my lungs than smoking is. When I start to use a PV, I tend to cough and hack and may have to reach for an inhaler. After a bit the coughing will subside and I can vape on without too much difficulty.

Aside from the inhaler I've found two things that help... switching to a higher blend of VG, and using a 901 atty. Up until a few days ago (Thank You LBug!) I was using a KR808 and it is way harsh compared to a 901.

The second thing holding me back might coincide with what Pope's wife is dealing with. Finding flavors that I wanted to vape in place of smoking a cigarette, as well as getting that "full lung" feeling.

Switching to a higher VG blend as mentioned earlier helped cut down on the harshness, but also increased the vapor for that "full lung" smoking feeling. I have to admit watching the larger clouds of vapor come out on the exhale seems to help on a psychological level as well.

As far as flavors go, I have been testing and testing and testing and have so far only found four flavors that do it for me: Peach, Green Tea, Sweet Caroline, and AC. (Thank you Sensay, I've smoked less than 1/2 a pack today since trying AC, without really trying.)

What is so surprising is that I wouldn't think those 4 flavors would be my go-to vapes.

I like peaches but would pick other fruit over them given the choice.

Green tea I drink after pouring a ton of sugar in it, and would go for oolong given the choice.

Sweet Caroline is the only tobacco flavor I've tasted that I like. (It's not sweet)

Cinnamon is okay, but I wouldn't rush out for an Atomic Fireball, yet I love AC.

The point I'm getting at Pope is that it is probably a good idea to make available as varied a selection of flavors as possible for your wife to try. There are several suppliers that have sample packs and sizes. (I can recommend a few if need be) Granted it's hit or miss, but if you can find 2 or 3 flavors she would rather vape than smoke... it goes a long way towards winning the war.

Sorry for the novel.

So, I'm about at my wit's end with my husband. He's been trying the e-cig (a KR808 manual) for a few days now but it's pretty intermittent. When he's home, he pretty much just smokes regular cigarettes. He says he does use it at work but still goes outside for a cigarette. I asked him about taking the e-cig and he said he didn't want to deal with all the questions.

The biggest issue is he's still coughing when he inhales. We tried the 910 atty but that didn't seem to effect the coughing. In fact, he said the TH was a bit harsher (I think, in part, because it's a LR atty). So, I'm debating moving him into a 510 since it doesn't seem to have the TH issues. I just don't see him wanting to mess with the carts, atty, etc. since he said the 910 looks complicated to refill. Cartos are just more convenient and less trouble.

Now, I do realize that 510's can use cartos so that may be a solution. However, I'd like folks thoughts before going out and getting another kit that potentially won't be any different.

PS I haven't seen Pope around in a bit. I hope all is well!

Switch to a higher VG, similar to what GtrSoloist mentioned? Have you tried the coolcarts from V4L? Would you like to try an 808 auto battery? (I prefer autos for generally walking around, they do free up the hands, and I really do think that the button pressing is an acquired action -- a well working auto is simpler to use, to me, though now I use both kinds)

Oops, forgot to mention that we had tried the pure VG mixes. It didn't help.

I would agree that handing them one and letting them play around with it, with no one looking over their shoulder, might ease some tensions about it. I had ordered mine from a suggestion of a friend of my husbands, and did well with it.. then he came over one day and handed me his to try and I was all thumbs, nervous like I was under a microscope.

I haven't run into the same things, only because family that smokes is really far away, but I do intend to stick a 510 in my mothers mouth next week when she visits. She is no longer welcome to smoke in the garage here, and will have to stand outside (VA is HOT compared to CT where she's coming from ) and I won't be waiting for her to smoke after getting out of the car and going into stores.. I am like the dreaded ex smoker.. they stink! You don't need that crap! Meanwhile, I will be vaping some delicious juices while she's out there sweating, and later when the state bird (skeeters!) come out. I also won't be making a special stop at stores to find the cheapest carton of cigarettes for her to bring home.. Blech!!

I personally feel the same way, let them see it, if it's a money thing, show him the savings, or the initial cost. My mother is now vaping because we were bothdetermined to quit, and when she saw my new toy she ran out and bought one too. Everything I have since bought, she has tried too. It is awesome to convert people, and I try with all of the smokers I know. I try not to be pushy, but I tell them how exciting it is that I haven't had a cigarette since April. (WOOHOO me!!!) If they try it and say that they like the taste, then I will talk more about it. If they cough thier lungs up, I tell them they inhaled wrong, smoke it like a cigar with a button, that seems to help most people understand not to force it straight into thier lungs.

I fully believe in the 'power' of the e-cig to help people stop smoking. It helped me quit after 9 years, my mom- 20 years, my stepdad- 37 years, my brother- 9 years, my sister in law- 4 years and my other brother- 6 years.

now with that said, maybe start with a tobacco flavor, that seems to help most people, (until their taste buds come back) and go with something that offers nearly no throat hit like the 901. That's just my opinion, but so far, it's been working for the people I know. I care enough about these people that I want them to appreciate life without cigarettes, because I am also the dreaded ex smoker that complains of the smell and gags when someone smokes near me. But also, how great is it if you can head of a disease such as cancer or emphazyma. It's amazing.

A silly question, perhaps, but have you tried lower nic in the juices? I love my 24 mg, but some folks who smoked regulars said they had to go to 18 or even 12 -- less nic = less TH, and less of the "pepper" flavor of the nic getting through.

Something like a cappuccino 12 mg, or a tobacco flavor with little TA added?

(The auto battery is just about the mechanics, might make it a more natural change assuming the TH issue can be worked through.)

I haven't yet got him to try the no nic. He's done the 6mg, 12mg, and 18mg all with the same amount of coughing. I'll see if I can find a no nic flavor he would like in my stash and get him to try it. I've still got a lot of doublers that haven't been tested fully but all of them are sweet flavors. He's still in that initial 'tobacco is the only flavor I want' mode.

Does anyone know if the LR 901 atty could be the problem? Maybe I need to just grab a regular 910 atty. I got this one as a freebie and figured it wouldn't be 'that' different. Does the 901 approximate the TH of the 510?

A regular 901 atty has much less TH than an KR808, and a cooler vapor also. I'm almost willing to bet it's the LR 901 causing the issue. It's supposed to simulate vaping at a higher voltage making it hit harder.

I've used a 510 disposable cartomizer and found it to be less harsh than an KR8 also.

I've never used a regular 510 atty, but my experience so far has the 901 as the mellowest, and the KR8 as the best flavor.

All right, outcome from last night's experiments.

I got him to retry the pure VG stuff I had around. No coughing. So, I think Eureka, he's allergic to PG! He doesn't care for the flavor at all though so he puts the RY4 back on and takes a puff - no coughing.

Seriously?! He tries the VG again, on a longer puff, and coughs once. Goes back to the PG RY4, takes a pretty long puff (as long or longer than the VG one he just took) and no coughing.

So, it's not the PG. He's now finished with experimenting but I get him to try FSUSA's Wyatt Earp 24mg 50/50. He takes a pretty healthy puff and no coughing. Nothing. Loves the Wyatt Earp and starts vaping like a pro. After that, he had 1 cigarette in the evening.

Only big problem at the moment is I have 2ml of Wyatt left. Got a bunch of other flavors - very few tobacco - but no good, aged Wyatt. Time to put in an order once I get him to try the Maxboro and Camtel coming. Now to go boil out some cartos for those two. Eesh, men!

I've got an unopened 3ml 24mg fsUSA Wyatt Earp that you're more than welcome to. It's only a little one, but I'm not using it.

No worries, Mark. I just put in an order for him for 60ml of juice. I'll make him vape the rest of the tobacco stuff I've accumulated while he waits for that to steep. Plus, folks are sending me all sorts of tobaccos for him to try so I want to make sure I don't overdo it.

okay I got an auto PT for a friend off the swap board. Decided to plead with fiance to try it before I send it away and he did.. He did NOT cough at all and even tried it more than once!! Only problem now is that he said "well this isn't so bad but, I don't want to get hooked on that stuff like you are"" mennn lol

Anyhows, after everything I"ve tried with him, an 808 auto with 14mg vg/pg juice in a cool cart is doing the trick.. just thought I'd share that with ya!!

Yay! he just needed to feel like it was his idea...."that crap you use? Ehh..this may work":p boB
