I am curious how most here are oxidizing their wicks?
1) traditional method?
2) jack frost?
3) a combination of both?
4) something else?

When you notice a drop in flavor, how do you go about fixing it?

Jack Frost, no juice burns. I don't even fold in the edge (Scubatdan) anymore. Not needed. The first time my set up gets juice is after the hot spots ( if any) are sorted.

Sometimes I dry burn if it's not convenient to recoil. For the tiny cost, I usually put a new coil on.

Will that really clean them up?

I am totally shocked you have a rough thread on the Orion, (not saying you don't) though I'd also say a little lube and use should clear it up.

However, you could take a small piece of the green scotch bright and polish the threads. That should remove any machining roughness.

The threads are different from unit to unit so each tank must be "customized". Using a file helps it go faster when you have a lot of material to sand down, but be careful to maintain shape. I prefer o-rings myself for a tighter fit. I agree that the 2.1s put out massive vapor. The wicking also seems to be superior as compared to others. I actually prefer my stock 2.1 to my stock Zen in all aspects except the switch and the size of the tank. Wish Les would offer a mechanical option with a 4ml tank on these. Also, they are a little tougher to wrap because of size, but you'll get used to it and wrapping the coil with the mesh uninstall definitely makes it easier.

I too prefer the stock Orion and will not be drilling out the airhole - It is perfect as is to me for flavor and vapor. All mechanical would be a dream as if and when my switch goes, even if I had another to put in I wouldnt know how. For me wrapping the Orion is easy, but Im use to wrapping gens. When I first started out I would have had a difficult time. Learned on a Line, hence my no problems with any of them.

Concur 100%. Mine is kicking as much vapor as my Z-atty-G here and it is not modded. I gotta admit though, the ZAG is doing pretty good here for me also and I like it a lot. I enjoy having the different draw on them for varying things up some, and flavor intensity varies along with it. Some flavors, well I don't want so intense... and some I do.

I enjoy the different draws on diff. devices also. My DID's are -one stock, one drilled 1.6 mm and ZattyG drilled 2.0 mm
My flavs all taste diff on each device, so its great. Some juices just are horrible on any Gen.

I have been campaigning pretty darned hard for him to make another mechanical device.

This would be the most awesome thing - To have an Orion all mechanical. Many of us will be in a world of trouble if and when the switch fails.

Jack frost, then torch it again once after rolling, burn vg on it twice, thats it. I dont boil the mesh or quench it. This may be a little over kill - however, when I install I want no problems at all the first time.

Drop in flavor - new coil

Anyone have advice for smoothing some rough threads?

I don't want to mess anything up, but I have some rough threads.

Lube them with Vaseline, and keep screwing then unscrewing the threads on and off

Will that really clean them up?

Yes it will. My ZattyG would not thread onto any of my upper batt tubes nor any telescope. The threading was very poor. Had to vaseline it heavy, screw on, back off - while pushing down. Finally it went on. Had to do it w/a Iatty mouthpiece and upper control tank. Usually works everytime.

I lube every on every device I own with a very light coating of vaseline - never want any stuck theads.

Similar here, Orion w/electrodes, but huge real estate compared to a Line. :D

The switch was why I gave up my v2s. I'm electronically ......ed :p
I have heard a GG or prodigy v3 switch work. Can anyone confirm either?

The switch has made it a quicker build for Les. Hearing about switch failures concerned me. Not sure if it's user error (constant accidental firing or extended dry burning) or construction issues. I know on the v2, they could roll and the button would activate. Why the switches are failing in the v2.1 is baffling since the button is recessed.

I really like the original mechanical switch, but Les took such a beating over it. The mods are many and are über simple, but the UK forum raked him over the coals. Pity. I talked to him about a simple fix and I hope he considers & brings back his design. It is elegant & simple.

A mechanical button in place of the electrical switch is exactly what I'd want, preferably in the exact same position, maybe like the SB?. I loved the switch on the v1.0/1.1a, just wished it was in the same position as the 2.0/2.1. A larger tank (say 4ml) would be the only other thing I'd want out of the Orion. Other than those, it's perfect!

Do you guys think opening up the air hole makes more or less flavor?

Yes, the flavor is just a bit less with the larger air hole, but the flavor with the small hole was just TOO intense on the flavors I use (sweets were too sweet and overpowered alot of the undertones in my juice) so it is better for me with the larger inlet.

The more air you introduce into the atomizer, the flavor lowers proportionally. Think of it as diluting a liquid with water. The Orion's atomizer chamber was designed to produce brilliant flavor and good vapor. Learning to draw on it takes time, up to a week. You can learn a good bit by firing it with the cap off. Watch how varying air on the coil affects the vapor.

If you are a flavor junkie, I strongly advise you to watch the video posted earlier in this thread. Les shows how to use a old juice bottle to experiment with inlet sizes. Once you drill......
