I use a silicone baking sheet to mix on. I mix on my desk so it protects the wood. It stays out all the time & helps protect the bottoms of my mods. When it gets messy I just throw it in the dishwasher on the top shelf.I probably need a big pan to put on the kitchen counter top. I usually just lay out a spread of paper towels. There's usually a drop or two evident on the towels after a session. It's in the drip path of my 100mg/ml nic.
The upside is that anything left after I clean the counter top counts as pest control. PG and VG sweetness, and NIC attracts and kills bugs!
I remember reading a lawn care book written by a golf course pro grounds keeper who listed his personal recipe for an all in one liquid fertilizer and bug killer spray. He made it in 55 gallon drums. He'd buy a pound of cheap tobacco, boil it and pour the water into the drum. Put the tobacco into a nylon stocking and drop it into the drum for further steeping, along with a list of other ingredients that provide nitrogen and other fertilizers. He swore by its bug killing ability as well as the fertilizer properties of his other ingredients. He used it mainly on the greens.
