Our hobby should now be known as SRT

I'm sad this thread died, I thought it was good stuff :D

I for one am glad you bumped it!

Mother Nature and ChooChooGranny said it best!

Can't wait for the video!

And btw, I hate the e-cigarette term too.

When talking with someone, or when writing, I'll use it one time, immediately equate it to vaping, so the reader/listener understands the use of the new term.

If it's a longer piece (comment, blog entry or whatever), I may use the combination again for reinforcement: e-cigarette / vape.

I do like the SRT, but don't really feel it's easy to use in conversation. For us, I feel that since we're all so familiar with the NRT acronym, SRT comes easily. But for the non-vape 'civilians', I try and use terminology they can quickly apply to our favorite topic :)

Sorry for the digression - it's the instructional designer / trainer / talking-head in me.

SRT on people! :vapor:

I've been analog free for 44 days after 1.5 PAD for 43 years! It was so easy I still feel like I'm cheating. Still feel like I had nothing to do with the accomplishment. Don't get me wrong…it is a HUGE life changing accomplishment but was just such a simple transition. I feel like I've cheated my addiction out of it's grasp on my life. Ha ha…I won!

This is interesting. I felt much the same way and it causes me to ask why? Why did I feel like I was cheating. If there is an easy option, why would I feel like it has to be hard. It's a big paradigm shift.

Sounds familiar... I tried it all.. Chantix was the most horrible of them all... With vaping there was a transition of doing both at the same time for a while but it did not last very long for me. There is still the occational crave for sonething but it is not very strong and i can easily puff through it. Feels like too good to be true

I can attest that SRT works where other NRT has failed. I tried just about everything: cold turkey, gum, Wellbutrin (I won't even go near Chantix--with pre-existing major depression, I could end up dead on that stuff), and all I did was relapse to smoking. I even tried convience store cigalikes, but I hacked on them and relapsed again.

Then I went to a tobacco store that also sold eGo PV's. I picked one up, got some of their juice, filled the clearo, took some toots, and found out I DIDN'T CHOKE! One month after that, I smoked my last cig and haven't picked one up since. I'm proof that SRT works! ANTZ, eat your narrow-minded hearts out! :vapor:

Studies have shown that with traditional NRT, between 6 to 15% of people that attempt to quit actually succeed and maintain their new non-smoker status for 1 year.
Studies have also shown that the real rate might be less than 2% over the course of one year...
New Study Demonstrates How Conflicts of Interest with Big Pharma Influence Reporting of the Effectiveness of Smoking Cessation Drug Treatment

And some studies are now showing that perhaps NRT products don't really work at all...

I just dont like the sound of calling it a type of therapy. Granted it works waaaay better than other forms of nrt I dont like the medical sounding term attached to it. I enjoy vaping as a hobby and a good way to get my nic on

I agree. To prove it my mod is named THE VAPINATOR. :D

So after all this, my question is this: Did NRT work for you? Did SRT work for you?
Jack

I've tried gum, patches, lozenges, inhalers, Zyban, and Chantix.

Until I started vaping, nothing really worked for me, I ALWAYS went back to cigarettes. I think the longest I've gone without a cigarette (except for now) was maybe two months.

I tried NRT - in the form of NicoDerm patches - a few times. Never did go more than a couple of weeks before I was lighting up again.

SRT (aka "vaping") has definitely worked for me, though. Tried a Blu starter pack first. Wasn't enough to keep me off the stink sticks. The day I received my Halo G6 kit, though, was the last day I ever smoked a cigarette. The G6 is a cigalike, but a very good one. I didn't even use anything else for the first six weeks or so. When I started feeling like I needed more, I stepped up to the Triton. Been using that for two months now.

I'm just starting to feel like I'm pushing the limits of my Triton hardware, though, so I don't think it'll be long before I get either a mech or a mod.

Started smoking at 17. Been smoking for 21 years. PAD+ for 19 of those years.

1st attempt was cold turkey. Fail
2nd. The "patch". Was smoking PAD with the patch on my arm
3rd. BLU ecig. Didn't last a week.
4th. The gum. Yuck! Gave me a mouth sore!!
5th. VMOD. Actually worked for almost 2 months. Then my new annual goals came out at my work and it was all over.
6th. Chantix. This....this stuff is bad news. Gave me nightmares. I stopped taking it on the 3 or 4th night. Threw the bottle away.
7th. 7 has always been my lucky number. A friend gave me a starter kit with a couple bottles of juice from MBV, an eGo, and a Vision Vivi Nova. Nowadays, I'm all about rebuildables and haven't touched a ciggy in 3 months, don't even want it.

My story is much like yours. I tried everything with the NRT but I always went back to the cigarettes. Then on a whim I tried SRT. That was 4 months ago. The only time a smoke a cigarette is if I run out of E-Juice. My wife goes to buy more E-Juice for me and I smoke cigarettes until she gets back home with the E-Juice. Then I stop smoking the cigarettes again. I don't miss the cigarettes at all and I feel much better. The coughing is gone. The mucus is gone. Most important I feel so much better. I take my hat off to SRT. It really works well and saves you so much money.

I like it!

I picked up a Dr. Who TARDIS wrap* for my MVP, so now I just ask the wife if she's seen my TARDIS** ... that has kinda a kinky sound to it doesn't it? :pervy:
