Be warned -- as I type this, I still haven't rec'd my first order with my PVs and juices, so we're still smoking cigs as I stalk the USPS.
DH & I both grew up in smoking households so cigs were readily available; my FIL actually died from complications surrounding emphysema. The man was awesome, and the most shameful thing about our smoking is that we saw what smoking did to him (he couldn't go anywhere without a tank of oxygen), but DH & I still kept on puffing. I think if PVs were around and as readily available then as they are now, he might have lived longer.
I smoke about 2 - 2.5 PAD, while DH smokes maybe 1 - 1.5 PAD -- and before we married, he smoked less than that. I'm basically a chimney and it influenced him a bit. I work from home so I'm constantly in front of the computer puffing away.
My mom smoked up until a few weeks ago when she bought a Liberty Sticks starter kit. We kind of waited to see if a PV actually worked for her before starting to research our own PVs (because something that costs the same as cigs and reliance on specific vendors is not our way of doing things). She hasn't smoked a real cig in over three weeks. She kept calling me telling me how she didn't want a regular cig, that she could taste her coffee better, she wasn't getting any side effects, and that she could actually go up a flight of steps without resting half way to catch her breath.
This is what really got me, because it is really embarrassing to duck out of a meeting to go light up, then come back reeking of smoke. I'm a consultant and my clients can definitely hear me wheezing on conference calls from 20+ years of my horrible habit. Even our pets smell of smoke, and I constantly give them baths. We're in a brand new house and the smell of smoke already permeated the vents, as my non-smoking sister smelled the smoke at 5a when the heat kicked on. Non-smoking family members do not want to visit us because we smoke. And due to this economy, we barely afford this habit; even though we buy our cigs from the Indian reservation, we are spending around $300 - 350 per month on analogs.
So earlier this week, I found this wonderful site and started researching. Found out about the deal on the eGo kit on Liberty Flights and bought 2 kits plus some small samples of juice.
Watched a ton of videos, and figured our best setup would be to drip at home and cartos on the go. So placed another order, plus got some regular 510 batts if it turned out we needed that analog feel or if we didn't want to use our eGos in public. Plus ordered more juice samples -- I have a feeling I'm not going to like anything PG based, so mostly got VG based stuff.
Then did some more shopping and bought more juices from Backwoods Brew to sample because even though I love LF's speed of shipping, they really didn't have the flavors we wanted to try in stock. Anyway, most of our juices are 18mg or 24mg, as I figured I'd want the 24mg in the mornings with coffee (and DH could do his smoke breaks at work with that strength) but I could puff all day with the same frequency as my current cig habit with the 18mg. Either way, I think we have enough stuff on order to last us a few weeks.
My goal with this is to eventually DIY, as DH & I are basically tinkerers (he decided he needed more flame out of our BBQ, and drilled the orifices until he was satisfied with the output
-- much to my dissatisfaction and fear he'd blow up the house but our neighbor is a firefighter and did it with him so I'm SOMEWHAT reassured it it won't). The order hopefully will get here today, and I'm already shopping around for flavoring supplies but I really think I just want to find unflavored 24mg VG and 18mg VG at good prices -- not too confident in my ability to cut pure nic mixes right now. My mom is calling me a mad chemist, but I have a feeling I'll send her an eGo kit and some juices if she doesn't hit her goal of being at 0mg and not using a PV altogether in the next month.
Anyway, this site really inspired me and I hope to report the mailman delivered our kit today. You all give such wonderful information to us newbies, and it saved me money with trial and error on my first order. So thank you.
