Unlike any other PV this one can area issues with software updates rather than changing the hardware

Wow! I wish I had seen that earlier! You mean to tell me that if the spring or the voltage dial breaks I can plug it into my computer and fix it with software? Thats flat out amazing!

Seriously I hope for the sake of everyone that pre-ordered or bought this pv that Im wrong but the first few posts on this dont do much to me make me feel optimistic.

Its true that any new product is going to have issues and bugs especially with earlier editions but thats why QC and internal testing is so important. If A company doesnt take the time or invest the money to do that it makes me doubt how much they actually care about their customers.

You should never have to pay full price to beta test a product, if they arent gong to pay for internal testing or employ high qc standards thats what a test market is for.

Old habits die hard, dont dismiss the thing right off the bat,it is,after all, unlike everything we are used to up to this point, software upgradeable!

Just like a Java update, you can get those every freakin day!

I would wait for ver 2.1 of the evic - it will have an app store and a like button.

I obviously was not referring to the hardware which does carry a one year warranty but just for the record the Display is crisp and clean and gives more information in an easy to read format than any other PV except for maybe the Darwin. The button is solid and has a nice click and the dial is firm and does not feel like it would break unless you are rough with it since it just takes a gentle touch to make adjustments with it. As for Software it can address most isssue of voltages, adding display functions since most modern devices use software controlled voltage controllers, or at least they should like this one does.

Thanks for the additional information about the feel of the device. I would also like to point out some limitations of firmware updates that might not be obvious to those who don't have a working knowledge of electronics. While the firmware can address issues and update functions, such as adding dynamic wattage adjustments and changing display items, they can not expand the output limits of the device. The specifications of the device at 5 volts (stated on the website) and 3 amps (calculated from the max wattage specs) is a hardware limitation put in place to keep the device within the safety parameters.

FYI: Based on the stated specifications, you will need to run a 1.7 ohm atty to achieve the 15 watt maximum.

This is only true if the chips inside are not physical designed to achieve a higher output, anyone with a high end video card can tell you even though limits are in place out of the box, after market software can be used to bypass this to overclock the cards and drive up the output of the chips raising both voltage and heat dissapation (wattage) - many times driving them well past the safety range and damaging the chips.

Except we're not just talking about clock cycles when it comes to voltage regulation, safety parameters, and hardware tolerance specifications. I will admit that I'm making the assumption that because of marketing, Joye/Ovale are already as close as they want to be to the safety limits to achieve desirable device performance. I'm also assuming that they have done the responsible thing and put hardware regulation in place to govern those limits, instead of just relying on the parameters of the firmware. Both of these assumptions on my part may be wrong, but I certainly hope that is not the case.

Would anyone ever come to think that maybe, just maybe that the firmware was already updated and put out across the devices...Its just a thought.
At least the firmware can be updated, I don't have to buy the latest and greatest and a bonus if I can put a picture of my puppy dog on it at boot up... :)

Well, from what my eVic is telling me, it has v1.0 firmware in it. That's the one i'm using right now.

anymore with this stuff never assume anything is what we would like to think it is.

i would hope also they put a physical limit on the chip but that all depends on what chip they pulled out of todays vendor basket, and could very well have put the limit to protect the plastic of the device more then worry about our safety.

on that note has anyone found out if the 95 degree shutoff they show in the literature pictures is the real limit? we will never be able to use it here in Fla if it is lol.

Yeah, we need a volunteer who has one to take it in a sauna to test the temp cut-off. Maybe that is an idea for Besardo's review.

So, i'm done with my review of the EGO eVic.

If you're interested you can find it here. Hope you like it.

Thanks for posting your review :) I appreciate all the information you're shared with us. :) Not happy to learn its lacking full low voltage protection. :( Appears to me that its worth the co-op price but not sure its yet made it to full price value.

Your review states, "I use the V1.1 of the MVR software on my PC." but (on-line) I only see V1.0 for the MVR and the same for the firmware. Is this a typo in the review?

It also makes it imperative now for any reviews of the eVic to state which firmware and MVR versions are being reviewed.

Bravo Zulu = Well Done!
