Totally not related to your post....I love your avatar. Is that your car? I have a '09 Ralliart :)

Yeah, '08 Evolution MR.

Back to topic, I tell anyone interested to just get an eroll starter kit if you want to quit smoking and start vaping.
If you want to be a "hobbyist", then read the forums, and waste your time and money.....I'll be enjoying my eroll. :)

I can appreciate this post! I was a newbie not too long ago and joined because I saw there were a ton of people that were in this for the same reason. To quit smoking and find a healthier alternative that would not leave me wanting to strangle the next person I happened to come across! I too felt a little overwhelmed at first because I bought an eGo vv/vw and a Kanger EVOD as my first setup. I was reading about mods and rebuilding and all sorts of stuff I had no idea about. There is still a lot I don't understand. The difference is, that this is something I REALLY WANTED! I wasn't going to let a little jargon and ignorance keep me from it. What most need to understand is that we are all here to help. I get excited and want to share my entire experience in a short post but I have to remember that I was where they are not too long ago. The only difference is I realized that there is a huge difference between ignorance and stupidity. I know I am not stupid, therefore I must be ignorant. Ignorance is overcome by education. Stupidity is more often than not never overcome! Thanks for the perspective!

actually there needs to be a couple sub-forums..

Need one for those folks who are here looking for an alternative
smoking real cigarettes. And yes, for folks like that (myself included
when I came here) the simple systems are the best bet.

Then there are the ones who come here looking to blow them huge
clouds they see on you tube. For them, the simple things just won't
work..

I've commented on this issue before. I feel the people here are too quick to jump on the "you've got to have a VV mod and this and that and 9 other devices, and DIY liquids and... " and it SCARES newbies.

Personally, every time I talk to someone who is considering getting in to ecigs I suggest the same thing. A Halo Triton starter kit.

Why? Because it's SIMPLE, it's reliable, it works well, and it comes with everything they need including a backup battery and backup tank. All they need after that is to find a liquid they like.

Is it VV?
No, but VV batteries are available if they want to get in to that later.

Is it compatible with every cart, tank, and other option out there?
No, but it comes with two excellent 2.4ml clearos that hold enough liquid to get most people through the work day without needing to refill it.

Is it the cheapest option?
No, but it's one of the best built. The batteries far exceed most similar eGo batteries, the clearos never leak, everything is designed as a system and not a collection of random parts.

Is it easy to use?
Among the easiest. Swap batteries when you need a fresh one and put the used one on the charger. Rinse the tank out when you change flavor. Once in a while change the wick or coil. Refilling is easy and since the coil extends above the top of the tank it's almost impossible to pour liquid into the coil.

That is what a newbie needs. Not a barrage of mods, rebuilding coils, DIY liquids, wick suggestions, Ohm's Law, or that other stuff. They need easy, reliable, most of all, SIMPLE.

IF, after meeting their basic needs they feel they want to expand into the more powerful and more complicated systems, feel free to offer all the advice you want, but if they are asking what the best starter system is, PLEASE keep it simple. Don't scare them away from vaping by making it seem really complicated and expensive when it does NOT need to be that way.

What he said!

ive noticed new coil builds that are just over the top ridiculous are over complicating vaping
especially building
i was just eye balling the clapton coil the other day on youtube and didnt understand why someone would go through the trouble of having to wrap that
looks nice. but simple builds still chuck as much vapor as the guy that decided to practically build a guitar string for his coil.

Most people don't want to start out complicated. When I first began, and got onto this forum, I was overwhelmed by the negative reactions to cigalikes, which was what I had at the time (Halo G6). But they were easy to use and suited my purpose. i wasn't ready for anything more advanced for quite a while. When I finaly felt able to navigate my way around all the choices, I got a Provari, and I love it. I would NOT have appreciated it or been able to use it comfortably in July, when this all began for me. To everything there is a season.

totally.
everyone has a starting point. some start with the building and stuff first or they could just have a pen style that they keep around for regular use.
most of my friends have moved over to rba's and mechanical mods simply because they just want the cloud formations. but all in all they are doing this rather than buying cigarettes. which i feel is what is forgotten most of the time :/

To be fair, to get the most out of vaping and to find something that will satisfy your personal needs, people NEED to educate themselves about how these devices work. They NEED to know about coil resistance, voltage and how electricity works. It's not elitist, it's simply dangerous for people to go into this without knowing all this stuff. I know a buddy who was vaping a burnt wick for over 2 months, because he didn't know he was supposed to change it.

If people aren't willing to learn the in's and out's of vaping, they shouldn't be doing it at all.

I'm not usually one to start a debatable topic...However I just wanted to shed some light on how I initially felt when visiting the New Members Forum. I got overwhelmed by the amount of supplies or mods many posters insist that you "need" to buy to be ultimately happy with vaping. I think for some people that might actually steer them away from this forum or vaping. I know everyone means well and I've already learned so much, but really some people are perfectly happy with a simple set up. I have a friend that is going through $40 worth of those blu e cigs a week because she's stressed and smoking like crazy. I told her to get one like mine and I think I actually turned her off of it by going into too much detail and giving her an information over load! She said " Yeah, maybe, but it sounds complicated. These are easy" . Of course i said "no, its so easy!" But it was too late and i had already made it sound technical and daunting . Anyways, I currently have a halo Triton with a variable battery and I'm perfectly happy :) Thanks for reading and again , you all are super helpful, but figured it wouldn't hurt to mention that being helpful can sometimes be overwhelming . Just like what I did with my friend ( oops!).

Greatm another person pushing their darn Halo Triton!

I rely on my local vapor shop to help me out. I had a crappy vape pen from a truck stop to begin with and when I realized that I really like the taste and the fact that I didn't smell like a dirty ashtray anymore, I went to our local vape shop. They were very helpful and didn't try to sell me the most expensive item they had. He set me up with just what I needed to start out. Now, 5 weeks after completely quitting cigarettes (26-year smoker of 2 packs a day), I am ready to upgrade to something a bit better. Currently using the Smok twist with both a Kanger Protank II Mini and a Kanger Protank II.

I find myself doing the same thing to people that question me about vaping...I get very enthusiastic. I think with me it is because for 26 years I have tried to quit smoking...I tried everything to quit and nothing would work, so the fact that I put down my cigarettes just two days after starting vaping makes me very excited and I want everyone to try it. LOL

I have an 05' VIII RS. Sup Evo peeps!

I started with an itaste VV3 and a mini protank 2v2. If that's all I had still, I wouldn't be smoking. But - the mods and RBA's... are where I live now. I think I lasted about 2 weeks before I had toys inbound and just started watching video's and trying to understand. Now it's like clockwork. And I'm not going back to smoking or - anything less. That doesn't mean everyone has to go that way. But it's not that hard honestly. It's just new and overwhelming. Sometimes it takes a little while to soak in.
