I've vaped for a year and 9 months now and never completely quit smoking. I went quickly from 2 PAD to about 5 or 6. Two with coffee, one after each meal, and one before bed. This week, my wife started taking Welbutrin and we are just about out of cigs. I plan on not buying anymore once the couple of packs we have now are gone. By that time, I will be glad to see them go. Soon, there will be two non-smokers in the house!

There was a lot of things I loved about smoking but when I discovered vaping, I realized that the actual cigarettes were not one of those things... I don't miss them at all as long as I have my PV and the right juice. I went to a bar last night and had a few drinks. Normally this would be a hellish experience for me if I couldn't smoke but I will say that vaping on butter rum while sipping a glass of rum is a better combination than anything big tobacco could throw at me.

I don't miss them because I have upgraded to something better. I feel better, I smell better, and I think that my vaping habit is more pleasurable than smoking analogs.

Hey everyone!
So it's been a little less than a week now that I completely switched over to vaping, and although I think I'm doing great so far (no cheating, no nic fits, no overwhelming urge to hit people.. Lol :p) .. I kind of feel like a lost a friend? Haha.

It sounds funny.. but I think it's like I'm mourning over cigarettes, if that makes sense.

Just wondering if anyone else felt this during the early stages of switching over? And if so, hopefully it goes away?

Thanks!

Congratulations! Yes you may feel like you lost a friend, but it won't be long before you feel the same way about your electronic cigarette. The difference is analogues kill you, e-cigs don't.

Keep up the good work and when that urge hits you pick up your pv and vape until it goes away.

Here's something to consider. Cigarettes, for most who smoked for quite sometime, were as essential as food...period. It didn't matter if we only had 2 bucks in our pocket and needed 3 for a pack of smokes, we'd find the money. Cigs were every bit a part of our life in every area. We would calculate how we'd visit people who didn't smoke (and they didn't know we did), how we were going to handle it, base our decisions on going places to where we couldn't or events. I highly doubt anyone who has smoked for years hasn't battled on all fronts of everyday life. We need to eat, sleep, and smoke...that was life as we knew it. If someone would go on a rant about smokers and the need to smoke, I would just assume raise my voice and put them in their place.

Non smokers (those who never smoked) just don't get it...nor will they ever. They spout conjecture, form their opinions based on ignorance. To us, it is unreasonable to think that smoking "isn't" important..because it is...this habit has been with us for many many years. It isn't something we can turn on or off at a whim....this is how we live.

So, yes, not smoking is like losing a friend....a wicked one at that but nonetheless, a familiar, integral part of our being. Vaping affords us to go through those familiar motions, inhale, exhale, relax, enjoy...without the toxicity of our familiar nemesis. For that alone, vaping should be openly encouraged by all as the PV's continue to change lives daily.

That is the perfect way to describe it! You pretty much just summed up the last 6 years of my life. Eat, sleep, and cigarettes.. Those were what I needed. If I went someone where I'd be gone for a long period of time with people who didn't smoke or who I didn't want to know that I did, it become a strategy.. How would I sneak them basically.

It's not easy to get out of that routine, but I'm more than willing to adjust to my new life!

I think those feelings are also being caused by some of the other psychoactive compounds in analogs (MAOI's) that are not present in Ejuice. In synergy with Nicotine, these chemicals are thought to be responsible for the dopamine surge and subsequent pleasure and addictive nature of analogs. I've noticed those feelings were strongest in my first few months of vaping, but now, after nearly 6 months, they are pretty much gone.

good luck and congratulations on your healthy, smoke-free life!

Even after a couple of months I still find myself occasionally reaching toward the spot that I usually kept my smokes. I didn't actually want one. It was just the habit of reaching for one. Now that I think about it, I don't think I have done that for at least a week. Yea!!!! I think even that habit is gone. It truly is a GREAT feeling.

Hang in there Krissyyy. If I can do it after more than 40 years depending on them for comfort then I know anyone that really wants to can do it too. They were our friends but they were not good friends.

I think everyone is spot on, on my feelings for analog. the routine of lighting up right after getting off the bed and waiting for public transport and stuff like that. every free-hand-time = analog time basically and i used to have very very bad temper if i don't get my analogs. tried to lay off them once went 3 days w/o analog but my gf couldn't tk my temper so she got me a pack instead and tadah back to where i started. Now with vaping, i dun smell, i dun throw temper, i dun need to time myself when not to smoke b4 meeting and stuffs. Only the funny cashier at my usual store who still calls me by the analog brand i used to smoke. (everytime she sees me she would go Next Chill Next Chill lol funny middle age lady.) and she was surprise when i didn't go grab my analogs. She was like 'Hi next chill, long time no see~." told her i quitted and she was glad for me but still calls me by that name haha ^^;;

I never really put myself through the pressure of quitting cold turkey when I started vaping. If I felt like I needed an analog or missed it I just had one. I figured I had enough stacked against me that I didn't want to overwhelm myself while I was kicking the habit. Now I still follow that rule although I almost never have an analog, as I prefer vaping much more.

Its been a year for me since my last drag of a real cigarette, and I still get that feeling like I'm missing my old friend from time to time. But It's more like missing an old girlfriend that cheated on you or something. Even though We had good times, the relationship was toxic so there's no desire to return to it.....

love your analogy--this especially rough the first couple of months. and i had to keep telling myself, that i didn't want to go through the whole process of trying to quit...again...
i'm thrilled when people find this forum early on so that they know "early" that there is a wide range of flavors and places to get equipment than the nasty tasting gas station ones i used. now, i love love love vaping and instead of mourning the analogs--i drip a new lover. :D

Well its been going on 8 months cigarette free and still from time to time find myself ( in certain situations ) reaching for a smoke, but instead I just grab my mod and vape, vape, and vape somemore and within seconds the urge is GONE!!!

I find myself doing that frequently as I remove the last few cigarettes from my routine. It does work. You get a craving, hit the ecig hard for a few minutes, and it's gone! It's too easy to reach for a cig when the craving hits and will power is only needed long enough to choose the ecig over the cigarette.
