Overcharging batteries?

Hey, everyone. I have a confession: I'm a serial battery killer, a notorious overcharger -- give me a cell phone or laptop battery and I'll fry it like a chicken dinner (it's an ADD thing). So naturally, I fear for my PV batts -- I know they aren't designed to last forever, but I'd like to give them the opportunity to die natural deaths. Can anyone tell me how careful I need to be about overcharging with these? Will occasional overcharging shorten the lifespan? How long is too long to charge? I'm using KR808 manuals, if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info, Guys. I don't know what types of batteries I've ruined in the past. I'm not even sure overcharging was always to blame; some of them just....passed. I'll check out the link, me who -- always good to know THE TRUTH no matter what the subject :)

Thanks again.

UPDATE: One of my six-day-old batteries is now stone dead. There must be a Karma issue at work here.

What kind of PV set up do you have? Auto batteries can die if you get liquid in them because they are not sealed. This is why I chose manuals, since I don't have a good track record with electronics, either. :D

(I have Kr808 batteries, I don't know if the auto/manual difference is the same for the 3-piece models.)

Oops! just realized I didn't read your original post carefully enough. Sorry!
