It has 3.6Volt minimum...period.

Yes but for it to regulate to that 3.6v minimum the battery has to be at 3.6 or lower. Battery voltage above that will give you straight battery power. That is what P4U described to me anyways.

This is why you build slightly higher resistance to avoid that. There is no reason to build super sub ohm, unless you just want the added safety features that the device provides over a mech.

(...) This may sound stupid but if you think juice in the device is the culprit, can you put it in rice like a cell phone when you get water in it? May be better to try that than use your warranty card up.
In such a case you may flood the internals with isopropyl alcohol: that will dislodge juice (or water) from the internals, and will evaporate very quickly afterwards.
Obviously do that without a battery inside, and do not even think to fire the unit for a few hours.. Alcohol and its fumes don't play well with flames and sparks :D

If you are to use isopropyl alcohol it is best to use the strongest you can find such as 91% or even better 99%. They contain less water which is obviously better for this use, will evaporate faster and leave behind less moisture

I have used this trick to save a cell phone i dropped in the water before. The alcohol will replace whatever liquid is inside the electronics, such as water or e liquid, and will evaporate at a much faster rate. As xpen said do be sure to give it ample time to evaporate before you go inserting a battery.

Sounds good Herb, solid point. I am using my other VTC5 on it and will use the same charging setup today and see if that fixes the issue. Hopefully the battery is the issue because spending $10 on a battery is alot easier for me than sending this unit back for another. :p The Nitecore charger is actually STILL charging this battery (almost done though) so it was barely even charged by the USB over the 5-6 hours it was plugged in.

I will update later if the USB charger fully charges this new battery. If that doesn't do it - then I will use a different USB charger (one for my phone or something) before declaring the device defective. I mainly wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. The main concern was the fact that it did not give me the 10w default mode that some others have mentioned. Granted - I am new to regulated devices coming from a mech mod, so I may just be behind on this learning curve. Only other thing I have noticed is that if this thing takes a hit in the least (even easily) it seems to do the 'auto-shutoff' thing quite easily....annoying, but not a nail in the coffin for me.

I got the IPV already down to about 80% with my current use today so I am actually going to go ahead and plug this into the charger and see what happens over the next few hours so that I can update this faster than once a day.

You know , as a matter of fact that did happen to me at times even with other devices but those devices turned out to be fine . For some unknown to me reason , some devices did not seem to charge much at all even after multiple hours of plugged in charging from a wall outlet.

Don't know why either lol. Trying again they charged to full capacity , i hate not knowing why.

No, underneath the battery, the silver has a cradle, like a half pipe, the black one doesn't. Ill post pictures tomorrow

I know what you mean , sounds like the silver has a Cana type battery cradle and the black just a slot , thats cool , i would prefer the cradle.

Good point , i always use 91% but prefer CRC electronic spray cleaner.

As for my comments on the charging , i see now after reading further why it happens, thanks guys.

Just picked up my silver ipv2 from the PO.

My display and touch sensors are scratched up as hell lol

The back panels sit perfectly aligned though. And the size is just perfect.

Many people have been fooled by the protective film. Did not think it was on there when it really was. Maybe you already new this though.

Yeap. The film's off. Haha. Thankfully scratches are one of those things a military man doesn't care too much about. Can't wait to try this sucker out!

Very nice. Are they longer? More sturdy?

The screw length itself is shorter. The stock is approx 4mm I think. The thumb screws I have are 3mm. However it still secures the back panel very sturdily.

Plus I can remove it without tools now!

I am shocked even you were fooled by that film Kiwi , you seem to know everything lol. Where did you get those screws , FatDaddies ?

Haha no film! The scratches are on the screen. I even used a pin to try to scrape off the film. Nope. It's not there and I ended up adding one more long scratch hahaha.

And yeah got em from fatdaddyvapes. Also while they are handy and allows for tools free removal, the screw itself is pretty damn small, so it's still quite a chore to slowly take it off. But I'm liking it the way it is with the thumb screw.
