What happened to you is extremely unusual, and I suspect it has nothing to do with vaping.
Regardless, 8mg is considered really low, and most people start with much higher strengths than that.

But it's hard to give any advice when we don't know...
--How much you used to smoke
--How many milliliters of 8mg you vaped

I disagree a bit. The same thing happened the first week when I switched over. I was vaping 18mg - 70/30 pg/vg... Those first few days I got buzzed, light headache, feeling restless, heart pound. I'm assuming just the effects of taking in the nicotine differently. It soon passed...I just cut back my nic in my juice to 12mg...which allowed me to still feel like I was "smoking" so I didn't revert back to analogs. I drank a lot of water. :)

After a week or so this all went away... Now I vape 18mg all day long...without so much as a symptom (if you want to call it that).

I think its normal and nothing to be worried about. However, if the OP does...of feels its something outside the norm...then they should consult their physician and not post on a board about it. :)

Nicotine and perhaps the other stuff in cigarettes can have mood stabilizing effects. I mentioned before that mental health is in the gambit of my health issues and quitting smoking was hell for me. Once quit for 2 years and was just so unhappy. So this time around I had the vape, this time around I am coping pretty well. But withdrawal from all the other stuff well...

For about 6 months I just kept wondering what else they put in cigarettes? I broke out, coughed up a lung and was pretty strung out. Because I had quit before I knew it wasn't the vape. Just drank a great deal of water and took lots of baths to help myself detox.

So take it easy, take your time, see if you can get some help.

We can disagree about how unusual it is, but it is definitely not normal.

But as I noted earlier, until we have...
--Information on how much nicotine she was used to getting
--How much of this 8ml juice she had vaped

All speculation is pretty much useless for the most part.

were you prone to panic attacks before you started vaping?

It appears from her post she already had Xanax in the house, which suggests the possibility to me.

I'm still in the over nic camp.

Anxious about trying to quit smoking
Anxious about vaping
First day vaping
A couple of cups of coffee
Vaped "all day"
Had a cigarette (another stimulant)
Likely anxious about having the cigarette (Is vaping really going to work?)
Continued vaping into evening
Her heart started racing and her ears ringing (both are signs of too much nic)
Anxious about the symptoms
Anxious about her health
Anxious about vaping
Anxious about trying to quit smoking

We all know how stressful it is to get off of tobacco. I'm not a doctor, but I can recognize a stress circle.

Wow, thanks for all the replies! You guys rock! Okay so here's the deal, I went back to the vape shop this morning and had all my 8mg juice cut down to 6mg. I also bought 2 bottles of juice with no nic, just juice. So i vaped like a crazy person on the 0mg of just juice during the day, and had 2 real ciggies all day. Now tonight I just had a few hits on the 6mg and I am doing good. Do I want a real ciggy? Yes...But I'll just do a few more hits off of the 6mg and then before bed i'll do the plain juice. My heart is not racing and the ears are not ringing. I think I over did it yesterday on the 8mg. My plan is to stick with the 6mg for a few days and then up it to the 8 mg again if it doesn't take away the ciggy cravings. I'll stick with the 0mg juice to mess around/chain vape with. I think it's really important for those with sensitive nervous systems to play around with the dosage until it feels "right" for you. We all do not fit into a perfect box. We are all unique! I am sure I'll have many questions over the next few days, until then, thanks!!!

I could see how someone who is prone to panic attacks could get one from just those two.
No nicotine needed.
:)

Throw in "anxious about getting too much nicotine" and, well...
Just thinking out loud here.

Gianna -

you've taken the most important step: moving to vaping. Getting off the analogs is the most important part. Two things from my experience starting a year ago may help:

1.) Be conscious of how much you're vaping. A common issue for new vapers is to keep vaping because the vaporizer never "ends" like a cigarette. Many juices will give a "pepper" sensation in the back of your throat. This is an indication that you've had "enough" nicotine for awhile and can take a break until you feel the urge again. Be aware that the juice you've chosen (especially one with a relatively low nic level) may not give you the peppery sensation so you'll just have to feel your way through.

2.) Recognize that there is a lot more to analogs than the nicotine and that your body may be going through some withdrawals from those chemicals as well.

One thing that I don't think ever got sorted out: on the first day you vaped, how much of the 8mg juice did you go through?

Vape on!

Exactly! And not everyone quits smoking in the same time frame. You are on a journey, not in a race. Give yourself as much time as you need to get to where you want to be. You are here and on your way, that's all that counts.

I'm so glad you are feeling better! :)

There you go, stay on the 6mg and you'll probably be fine.

Like I said I had exact same symptoms to the tee when I started. 6mg is my sweet spot, no anxiety, no insomnia and no jitters etc.

No offence to any one but the ringing in the ears, pounding heart etc - it's too much nic - those theories posited about stress cycles or not getting enough nic wouldn't cause those symptoms.

Like I said, I was stuck in a country where the lowest I could get was 11mg so i had to quit vaping, the heart racing, pounding in the ears etc was so bad.

No I can get 6mg I can vape all day and even before bed.

Anxiety + too much CNS stimulant/Vassoconstrictor = increased and snowballing anxiety plus over elevated heart rate.

Simple math when you've lived with it.

Hope you have found a solution - nicotine is a vasoconstrictor (tightens up blood vessls) it can also cause fast heart rates (racing heartbeat) and it can also cause anxiety - all of which can be cause by nicotine withdrawl. There are many factors that are not known here.
I smoked about 5-10 cigarettes a day when I began vaping - I started out with a nicotine level of 18mg /ml but found that it was harsh and I quickly decreased to 12mg juice.
I tend to vape constantly in the evenings when I am home - I find it relaxing and I have been able to reduce my nicotine percentage to 8% in my vaoing liquids. I make my own - I have a background in chemistry and medicine so I like dabbling in the DIY.
I find that with anything too much is as bad as too little - may have to work to find your happy point but I will say it is worth it.

Hey OP, as you'll remember I had same symptoms. Randomly yesterday I went to vape one of the 20 sample 1.1ml tanks of juice i got sent with my new kit (wish they had have asked me what level of nic I wanted in my samples grrrrrrrrr, then I'd have had over 20ml free juice and would be very happy) and pulled out a 'mild seven' one out of curiosity as that si the brand of cigs i smoked.

Well it was medium strength - 11mg - and off the first two puffs I felt like gagging, heart started racing, had that terrible pulsing / pounding hearbeat sound in my ears and throbbing in my neck just under my ears and felt totally overwhelmed and had to have a cold shower (lowers blood pressure.)

Mixed it half and half (no point wasting it) with my 6mg juice which I guess (bad at math) makes it now 8mg or 9mg and still a bit too strong for anything other than a morning vape - but no symptoms.

Like others have said, probably you need around an 6-8mg for the day and perhaps even drop down to 4mg after 6pm.

To the original poster, could you PLEASE let us know how many of what type of cigarettes you used to smoke?

Hi, I smoked American Spirits, the blue, 1 pack a day. I am still smoking a few of them a day still. I am cheating :( But today is a new day. Thanks for all the replies everyone. I really cheated a lot yesterday and smoked the ciggs and didnt vape much because I am not digging the fruity juice anymore. I need to get back to the store and get the real tobacco flavor juice. Ive had enough bananna and strawberry inhaled to last a lifetime yuck
