Most who vape DTL usually do so at something like 3mg/ml nic. The nic in a cloud is much more potent/concentrated than the nic in a small puff just because you are inhaling more volume. That said, if you have been doing that for a year with 6mg nic in your juice there may be other causes. Try 0 nic juice for a while as a test.

There's always the possibility that you were sold juice that was mislabeled, especially since you've been vaping for a year with no problems. Were you a former smoker? If so, you should be able to vape higher nic juice without issues. If you never smoked, all bets are off.

More info may be needed.
I started at 3 nic when I started vaping (no i’ve never smoked cigarettes) and then moved to 6 with no problems until now..

The next step is to vape 0 nic for comparison. If that stops the ringing at least you'll have a reference. My ears ring faintly much of the time, but I'm a musician who stood on stage in front of a line of amplifiers and drums without ear protection for decades of weekend performances. Still, mine varies with blood pressure. It's only noticeable if my BP elevates.

Personally I would skip the vaping experiments and get properly diagnosed. I’ve been down this road before where a medical assumption was incorrect and I now suffer from permanent nerve damage. Any prolonged diagnose could lead to lasting damage. Not saying vaping is or is not the root of your problems but we are all just speculating.

From Webmd on Tinnitus.

  • You have any symptoms of tinnitus; it could be a symptom of an underlying health problem, such as high blood pressure or an underactive thyroid, both treatable conditions.

  • The noise is accompanied by pain or drainage from the ear; these may be signs of an ear infection.

  • The noise is accompanied by dizziness; this may be a sign of Meniere's disease or a neurological problem. Seek medical care immediately.

it’s just so weird because i’ve been vaping 6 nic for so long.. it just happened with this certain juice I’ve been using.. I’ve always had ringing in my ears but not as constant as this

Doc could be thinking it's sinuses and since vaping, like smoking gets in the sinuses, is saying to quit for a bit. Then again some docs are anti anything, until it comes to medication. I know my doc will send me to someone else if he doesn't know why or can't see a reason for why. If I had what was going on likt you, I'm sure mine would do blood panel and then possibly send me to an ENT.

Now I'd follow what the doc said and if you disagree, get a second opinion. Then also wait till they give you an idea of why they think something is happening, after they do mention vaping.

Not sure where you live but here in Alabama, many are struggling with allergies right now. My mother for example has had all kinds of issues with them, including popping and stopped up ears. Heck, you could be having a reaction to PG, I do personally. I vaped for a long time until it started bothering me, switched to max VG stuff and felt better.

She really doesn’t know what’s going on.. She said it could be Menieres but she just wants me to avoid the possible triggers for it and see what happens.. And also to start taking allergy medicine to see if it clears it up.. Like i’ve been saying, i’ve had tinnitus all my life at random times of course it happens more after i’d gonto a concert or something but recently it has just gotten worse and with the dizziness on top of it it scares me.. I really don’t think it’s from vaping but i just thought i’d ask since I did see posts about PG causing hearing problems

I get that and makes sense to eliminate triggers, plus cheaper than paying a specialist on the first go. I never had ear trouble with PG, I itched like I was covered in poison ivy and had heaviness in my chest. Went to max VG mixes and in 24 hours problems reduced in 72 hours completely gone.

I worked in the firearms industry so I have some ear ringing. I'll tell you what my doc told me, Tinnitus is a pretty way of saying hearing damage or loss, lol. Best of luck figuring it out, generally though if it's an allergen, with medication and removal of allergen (if it's vaping related), you should feel improvement fairly quickly. Personally I'd be back at the doc's in a week if it hasn't changed.

No worries, hearing is simple, just like other things, use protection, lol. Thyroid stuff is easily managed nowadays as well, you're young enjoy life.

You definitely should follow the doctor's advice, but I do have a few questions due to my own curiosity:

Did you go to an Ear, Nose, & Throat specialist or your general practitioner? Would s/he refer you to an ENT?
Are you having these symptoms all of the time, off and on regardless of vaping, or only when you are vaping?
If only when vaping, does it start immediately or after a few puffs?

You say that it is only with the one e-liquid: is it the same e-liquid you have gotten before (flavor, pg:vg, etc?)
Are you using the same wattage/voltage with this particular e-liquid?

Sorry for all the questions- feel free to ignore them :).

If you have had ringing in your ears your whole life, you weren't a smoker before vaping, stopping or vaping 0 nic (although in SOME ways, I could see the act of inhalation itself being kind of a trigger, so maybe do as your doc suggests and stop for a few days.) If it's allergy/sinus related I could see one flavor in particular being a problem.

BUT, given your condition PREDATED the vaping, while vaping MAY exacerbate it you really SHOULD see an ENT and get yourself diagnosed. Menier's disease runs in my husband's family, but it is treatable, you won't lose your hearing but what does become debilitating is the dizziness, the falls, etc. But the good news is there IS treatment now (better than before) and it may not be Menier's at all, it could be something totally unrelated and something environmental that may or may not include vaping.

Good luck, I think you really need the correct diagnosis and whatnot.

I hope it’s just an infection and I can get it treated, and not Ménière’s disease

Unless you are really unfortunate, and have a feeling of ear pressure deep inside the ear, I doubt if it is Ménière’s. When any ailment pops up in the National Organisation for Rare Disorders, there is a good chance you don't have it. By saying that I'm not meaning to trivialise what Anna has said above, but I really concur with everyone here who has suggested you get checked out and a decent diagnosis.

On the positive side, one thing life has told me is that it is often the things we don't worry about that come and bite us, rather than the things we do.

I only use my elbow to add e-juice to my ear(s).

Nah, seriously though chain vaping can cause your ears to ring and/or dizzyness. Not sure if it's blood pressure related or not, but when I first began smoking (right after the ice age, when fire was invented) my ears used to ring after smoking a carton in a day.
Yes, we dumb kids would smoke and smoke and smoke until all ten packs were gone.

Anyway when I started dual using cigarettes and vaping I began hearing it again. I've since cut back on both and no more ringing.

@United States - That is some feat. I remember back in my younger days I smoked 2 packs of Benson and Hedges in one day, put me off them for life [B&H that is, not cigarettes].

What would you define as chain vaping though? 5-10 consecutive deep MTL drags? 10 minutes with the drip tip vacuum sealed to your lips while reminiscing on the comforts and security of being breast fed? Not that I intend to go there mind you - just curious as to where the limits are ...

I guess so, unless you define "chain" the traditional way where loops in a necklace are all attached to each other, in which case it would kind of be an almost infinite loop of inhaling and exhaling without breathing much.

If I define it that way, though, I never chain vape because I do stop for air, but I'm also pretty sure I chain vape.

Caffeine and nicotine can increase tinnitus.
My concern is you are 19, a non-smoker with a thyroid condition and taking up nicotine usage...plus increasing it.

I think the best idea would be to stop (as your doctor prescribed ) and find something else to do with your time and money :)
