Passthrough/charger question

Should be an easy one, but I wanted to check with people who know better than I. If I chop up a regular pass through, can I directly wire it to charge a 14500 protected battery or is there a step I need between the two?

I'm thinking I saw a thread regarding this a few days ago but now for some reason I can't find it. I don't currently have a pass through to look at but I assume there is some type of chip I need to either purchase or create.

I have a regular 10440 pass through chopped up and keeping an 18650 mod topped up. I don't see any problem with a 14500. Mine was supplied by Totally Wicked. Other models may be wired differently. Mine supplies around 400mA max. It will take 3 hours or so to charge a 14500. No additional chips are needed.
