I can't answer how long they should last but I picked up mine mid October and it's going great, but yes you do have to clean the connections, make sure you get those little pin holes clear or you'll feel like you are trying to suck a bolder through a straw.

should work for PT's too!

It does work for pt's, too.

Take it back. PT's doing it again. Dying, on and off.

Is it the cord? They can come loose inside, I think there is something soldered inside the battery and this can cause it to act up the way you are describing. Try to jiggle it into a position where it works and tape the cord up the side of the passthrough with some tape or a twist tie to secure it. That might get you through until you can get another one, if you don't have a spare.

I don't know how long they are supposed to last. I have one that lasted 3 months and started doing what you are describing. I don't think anyone has stated the life expectancy of a Pass Through on here before, not that I've ever read, anyway.

V4L is working on this problem and changing the cord to one that won't do that, I believe.

No idea how long they last - I'm still using the one I got with my kit back in early November (but I think I'll super glue the cord just in case). I look at PT's and batteries as consumables. If you get 2 months out of a PT or battery, the cost is about the same as a cigarette per day.

I have bought 3 PTs in 3 mos. The manual one died today after about 5 weeks daily use. I tried cleaning, wiggling, atty changing, nothing worked. I ended up using batts all day today, real PIA but I have 6 and ones always charging. Guess I better order PTs like attys when I order fr China in Feb. If someone wants dead PTs for testing purposes PM me and I can send you 1 manual, 1 auto, but they are 901s which apparently not many use anymore. I wish PTs werent fickle.

I think a PT should last a real long time if you treat it right, even I have taken black electric tape and wound it around the end after super gluing it to, V4L is even looking into making corrections on there I have been through two of them ansd steve is so great with his customer service he sent me two more ASAP. I'm just stating IMHO they should last for a real long time and be built to last in that way, I think you will see some much better ones in 2010 like puresmoker is making along with many other companies upgrading the ones they make also, the last thing companies want is a faulty piece of equiptment on there hands and everyone returning them, it would also like I asked on this post if someone with some techy knowledge could take a broken one apart and let us all know how to fix our broken ones, this would be really cool to see a youtube on fixing you passthrough to keep it working for a long long time (right) I think so anyone agree with me on this, please post and let me know your thought pass through people.

Thanks

Ordered a passthrough from TW, lasted between 2-3 months. Even replaced the rechargeable battery in it thinking I could fix it. No go. Can't seem to find much on passthroughs.

You have a passthrough with a battery? How's that wired? That would be... Unusual. I'm surprised it didn't shut down your computer. A diode maybe... Would be pretty bizarre though!
