I have had a 901 and 801 passthrough (love 'em) for about 2 weeks. Today, the wires on the 901 P/T broke, right where it attaches to the LED. There is kind of a natural bend where it comes out and it looks like it became like a stress point and because it was plugged into a low USB port on my tower, it ripped where it had been bending.

I am going to get a powered USB hub as soon as I can, but until then, I still have the 801 P/T and don't want to lose it too. What do you think about putting a piece of duct tape around the wire right where it connects to the LED, to try to reinforce it? Or will messing with it, just make it more fragile. The rubber that wraps the wires seems pretty weak.

Please excuse my crappy camera and even crappier photography skills. :D

Not only does it seem weak, it is weak. Trying to relieve one stress point on a PT, will only create a different one. They're poorly made with the cheapest parts possible. Unless you're not bothered by constantly replacing them, the best solution is making one of your own.

I suspected as much..I brought the broken one to work and one of the tech guys fixed it, but he said not for long. I am going to look and see what I can learn about making one of my own, but I doubt there was ever a less mechanically inclined person than me. ;)
