The only time I get frustrated are when the seller wants the buyer to calculate the PP fees. I recall reading one classy add that said something along the lines of "Buyer pays PP fees, if you dont know how to calculate them then dont bother PMing me" That definitely turned me off to whatever he was selling.

I agree it's total crap that sellers won't eat the 3% fee...it's not a lot of money and they should just factor that into the price. If you send money to them as a gift, they don't get charged the 3% but you lose your protection if they don't send out your stuff. If you send the money as goods and services and they don't send your products, paypal will immediately refund your money. If there is something I want and the seller wants 3%, I just add it to the total. It usually is loose change...if it's a $20 purchase, then it's $20.60. It's really not a big deal...that's why I wouldn't be so cheap if I was a seller and say pay as a gift or pay fees...just eat the .60 cents!!

Now with not mentioning e-cigs, that is really important and understandable. Paypal will immediately close any sellers accounts and sometimes harass and even close the buyers account for any mention of e-cigs or cigarettes. It's totally illegal to sell cigarettes/tobacco online and paypal is ignorant and considers e-cigs tobacco products.

Ebay states specifically that the seller cannot charge the buyer PayPal fees (specifically. You can, of course, bury them in your item price or shipping fee).

Ebay existed for a long time on money orders alone, and later on both money orders and PayPal. It's only recently that they have become PayPal only (though you can, as a buyer, request to send a money order and the seller can agree. The seller, however, cannot OFFER to accept paper payments. eBay really has their hand up our behinds with that one.)

I had an X.com account (later became PayPal) since 1997. I've been through every policy change PayPal has ever instituted. They're the big dog, so they can pretty much do as they please. Especially since eBay has their sellers by the gonads. Anywhere else, though, the buyers and sellers and site owner can make their own terms for PayPal usage.

You can't really compare CC fees with PP fees. CC fees are per transaction, PP fees as stated earlier are a percentage ( and per transaction). If the Seller adds the fee to the price the FEE GOES UP! To me I think he should list the price he's wanting out of his item and you as the buyer can decide if you are willing to pay that price and the fee to get it.
I've bought tons of stuff on lots of different types of message boards and I won't even bother with somebody who doesn't use PP. It's much easier to PP, my CC#'s aren't in the wild, no trip to Post Office and no waiting for seller to get it coming my way.
Don't get me started on Ebay/PP thinking they know what's best for us. Try paying for gun parts, ammo or reloading components if you think they have a hard-on for e-cigs.

peace.

We could sit here and talk for days and get this topic to 9 pages which we already reached but now it's my time to come here and tell you the truth IT WON'T MATTER!!!!!

If a seller wants you to pay the fee then just don't buy from them

This won't stop certain people from posting stuff for sale and make you pay the fee

Even if you pay the 3% fee you most likely still get away 20-40% cheaper then on any website.

If someone sells a item shipped for $60 and wants you do pay the fee of lets say $3 just see it as shipping. Most sites want you to pay up to $7 shipping and you also pay that without saying a word.

It is what it is no one can change that because it's always up to the person that sells something.

CC fees are a cost of doing business.

If, as a business owner, you want the buyer to pay the fee, raise the price of the product to cover it. The buyer pays the fee then, but doesn't get ...... and tell everyone not to patronize your establishment.

Problem solved.
I hear where you're coming from but if I went to a store and they rang up my purchase then added a fee for me paying with a card thats an entirely different story. You expect a store to cover their overhead in the prices. But when you are selling something here every once in a while just because you need cash or have unwanted product to get rid of that's different. Its like a friend selling you a TV or a couch then when the get to your house asking for an extra 5 bucks to pay for the gas it took them to get there. It just seems petty to me i guess.

Question - In the "pay your friends back the lunch money you owe them" and other areas of the Paypal site, it says

"Plus, it's free for the sender and recipient in the US when you send using your bank account balance or PayPal balance."

I just did a transaction using my Paypal balance, but the seller says they still got charged fees? I receive rent regularly via Paypal and as long as my tenant uses their Paypal balance or bank account, I do not get charged any fees.

Anyone have know what the deal is with getting charged/not getting charged fees when the payment was made from the Paypal balance?

Thanks,
CC

I believe if your account is an 'Individual account' you aren't charged the fees. If you have a 'Business account' with Paypal you are charged a fee no matter what..

Mine's a business account, and I have not gotten charged fees on rent payments from Paypal balance or bank account. Maybe my tenants have been using the personal payment options.

I'm starting to think that Paypal's messaging is misleading and confusing - the information on the left says "no fees for buyer or seller" don't seem to apply to the instructions on the right, which says "seller pays small fee" on the Home | Send Money > Send Money Online- Send Money Now form, if you pick "Buying Something."
