I really love my Penny V2 and I use it a lot. After countless different builds with resistances ranging between 1 and 2.5 Ohms, nearly all rope diameters available, wicks down the channels, channels empty etc. etc. I have a strange wicking thing in my builds.

I get the best results with 2.5 to 3mm Silica double on top with the channels empty. A single thin 1mm wick down the channels (leaving them partly open) with a piece of 2.5mm on top also works well. I vape the V2 between 10 to 12 Watts.

But... when I pick it up after a while (say 10 minutes or more), the second draw tastes dry/burned.
Always and only the second... After that the wicking is perfect and I can chain-vape as long as I want.

So my theory is this; during the time unused, the liquid level seems to drop down in the channels. The first draw is still fine because of the liquid that remained in the wick. During the second draw the liquid needs to go up in the channels to the wick & coil first and this could be the reason for the dry/burned taste from that draw. From the third draw on everything is working perfect again.

Does this make sense and does anybody recognize this?...

This happens with me if I'm using silica with no wicks in the channels you are right. Because no wicks are in the channels there is no capillary action and we rely on suction for liquid to reach the coil. This stop happening for me however when I use cotton which is always now because cotton holds more than silica in one spot although it is not as fast wicking. It gives time for liquid to soak the wick again.

liquid goes where is hotter fog, so the first inhale is ok because some liquid exist on wick but the second one is not good because liquid is not near wire. But when wire comes hot, liquid goes there

i use cotton yarn with normal wrapping (not microcoil) and i have no issues at all, did have your issue in beginning but as imeo said, its common to all atomizers, but might become more noticeable in others. i always open juice control first, because first drag will burn remaining juice on wick then it takes time to re wick. no worries you will solve your issue, penny is a great design.
