Mine arrived today, the one with the slanted top.

feels great, but I get nothing but burning even after 15-20 drops. Mine registers at 2.8 ohms, and even if I dial in 4.0v, it tasted burnt and the flavor is VERY muted.

Is the premade coil kanthal or nichrome? I ordered kanthal and some silica wick, should I rebuild it or just try and break it in?

So far, it doesn't touch my hh.357. I'm not quite sure why either.

It is indeed the premade coil...trash it, build a new one. There's tons of videos on youtube to show you how and it's really easy. You did good, kanthal is the best. Just remember to wrap it loosely, can't express this enough...the reason why your premade coil is tasting burnt is because the coil is wraped too tight around the wick which won't allow it to wick proper.

Yep, the premade coils should be tossed, but here is a picture that I can show that will explain why this is:

http://www.shop.vapor......com/images/phx4.jpg

See the coil leg that starts from the wick and is then secured to the post? There's 5 or 6mm of length where the coil is not touching any part of the wick. This will cause any juice that's on the coil to literally burn it.

If I have to recoil my Phoenix over the weekend I'll get some pictures of it on here, but my cotton wick is still going strong now for 6 days with no looking back, so I don't foresee it happening :D

Should be easy enough to just loosen one screw and either push or pull the coil closer to the screw post then tighten and snip the excess or spin the wire in a small circle till it breaks off, then fix the other side... The coil would be set at more of a slant in comparison to the posts rather than vertical in between them. Just a suggestion but rebuilding these looks super easy.

Also, why does the wire in this picture look like brass? Is that just a camera flash distortion or lighting?

I'm not sure why it looked like that, but this was the vendor pic I pulled from Vapor....., who pulled it from eShots.

Interesting!

My coil came pretty closely wrapped, and I definitely have some extra space on the edges.

I'm going to give it a rebuild tonight and see how it does!

Question though,

How about a wick made of PTB?
It came in a flashback from my cartridge days lol.

I have some SS 400 mesh on the way though!

Meh... I just can't get it right.

I've made about 4 coils so far, and I used a paperclip as a spacer, so it wasn't too tight. I made sure it was diagonal, so there was no extra space between the coil and the post. On top of that, I ended up somewhat messing up one of my posts trying to turn it towards the center (the other post moved fine). It still fires fine, screws in fine, but it's a little dinged up (that one post).

I really don't know what I'm doing wrong. I tried 4 wraps, 5, and 6. My best of the ones I made came out to be 2.3ohms, and even at 3.9v it was burning like crap. Before I even tried it, I primed it with 15 drops directly on the coil, and then an additional 1-2 after a couple of puffs. It's just not wicking enough.

The flavor is still muted too. I get plenty of vapor, but the flavor just doesn't match the HH.357. The real reason I bought this was to surpass the 357, and not have to worry about what to do when a coil pops.

I really don't know what's going on here.

Mines from Mountain Oak Vapor.

What kinda wick and wire are you using...I know nichrome wire tastes like crap and there's lots of different kinds of wicks. You can go the SS mesh route but I didn't really see a need for it as the flavor and overall vape from kanthal wire/silica wick is way better than any atomizer including the HH.

Make sure you push your coil up high enough so it dosen't burn the plastic on the poles.

I'm using a silica wick with 34 AWG Kanthal wire. I finally scored a "decent" coil last night. Flavor was better, didn't burn as much...but still burned.

I have some SS mesh coming in the mail to try out too, I was going to do what's outlined on the Pinoy vapers website.

Once I get home though, I'll post up a picture of my current coil and wick. This last one I did tastes better most of the time, bot doesn't wick quick enough.

Flavor still isn't up to par with the 357 though...maybe I should try a dual coil setup?

Yeah try a DC setup...I was going to mention that. As long as your device can push it to it's full potential should vape like a dream. I did a DC setup and just put one wick/coil on the right side of the posts and the other wick/coil on the left side of the posts leaving the middle open for the juice.

Another thing you should check before putting juice on the wicks is to fire the atty and take note of how the coil/coils glow. You want the coils to glow very evenly and all at the same time. If it's not all glowing orange at the same time then you have shorts in it.

If that dosen't work I dunno what could be going wrong...might be better off with the SS mesh as that should never produce any brunt flavor at all.

Here is the SS setup on mine:

photo11.jpg

I went ahead and purchased one of the TBC-2's at Stormy's Vapor Cellar for $20, with a 10% coupon. I figured I might as well get another while I wait on mine from Hola's co-op, as I'm SUPER impatient :)

Does it work well even though the wick is leaning so much?

Yeah, it works great. With it leaning, it increases capillary action, and I also get shorter legs to the posts as the top is less than a mm from the post, with the bottom being the same way. I did this to ensure there were no hot spots, and it also worked out that the bottom of the wick is in the lower part of the cup, so the wick will always be wet from the liquid pooled in the bottom.

I then positioned the air hole directly adjacent to the post, so there's only 3mm or so distance between the coil and the air hole.

That's awesome. I just ordered 2 this morning from Vapor..... after seeing the SS instructions.

I might try the cotton wick, but I'm definitely setting one up as a SS Genny because I hate burnt juice and I'm not a fan of silica, at all.
