I wrapped the mesh around a standard size paperclip, not extremely tight, but enough to make it like a "straw". It wicks fine, no burning, but the liquid just isn't tasting as "potent".

I used about a 1.5x1.5" square of mesh before oxidizing, then I cut it down to a little higher than the posts in the atomizer once I installed it.

I oxidized it atleast 6 times, so it's definitely not conductive anymore.

I haven't tried the rolling paper trick, but I guess I'll make a new wick.

Even when the coil is absolutely soaked, with no potential to burn, the flavor just doesn't satisfy. I'd guess because the barrel is much wider than a normal atomizer, so it's swooshing around a lot in there..

Hmm, I'm going to have to try the o-ring idea when I get home tonight. It doesn't really feel blocked to me though, the draw is quite airy to say the least.

Whenever I have a short, I get an E1 error, and I can usually see it sparking. I think my issue here is the distance between the first/last coil wraps, and the posts. There's some wire there that glows and doesn't touch the wick at all. The thing is, if I brought the wick closer to a post/slanted, I end up touching the silicon insulators.

I was seeing that exact behavior when I had my coil shorted to the wick. You may not see any severe hot spots, but when coil starts to glow on a properly oxidized wick, you should see the very middle of the coil glow first, and start to spread out to the legs.

It took a lot of patience and toothpicks to move the coils around to stop shorting, but once it did, it vaped pretty nice.

This has been my experience at least, but I know there's at least a thousand other methods and expected results out there.

This is a method that can apply to this, even though it was made for the GTank:

Genesis Atomizer Coil Wrapping For G-Tank-US - YouTube

Watch his coil glow when activating the ProVari (he dry burns at 6m 30s into the video), and that's exactly how mine was as well. This is the same guy who uses the rolling paper trick.

I just got mine from VB, and the same day got some silica and kanthal from vapoligy, the premade coil has been working real decent. I was surprised mine registered at 1.5 ohm when most people's stock coil came in at 2. When filling do you guys unscrew the tube or drip directly into the tube still screwed in? Is this on the same level like the ce2 deals because the wicks look a lot similar to the vivi nova wicks. The good thing though I've noticed is that it can handle a lot more power than the nova can voltage wise it seems.

Man I feel like a total newb, coming from carto tanks this is a whole new animal. I really want to master making silica wicks before I jump to the ss mesh. Now if you guys think it's ok for someone to jump right into ss mesh I may order some soon as well. My ultimate goal is to get into a genisis system like the DiD or Zen.

And all this talk about silica getting in your lungs etc is a bit odd, should I worry about it at all?

I used to put fiberglass insulation in houses before doing the drywall for my job and breathed in thoes fibers all the time and nothing bad ever came of it. I would say it's pretty much the same stuff. I doubt much at all if any is getting into your lungs unless you are vaping a fresh silica wick with no juice on it.

I've seen those concerns before and I look at it like this:

in the 2.5 years I have been vaping and using traditional 510 atomizers (they have a silica wick in them) I have probably been through upward sof 50 atomizers and have, at this point, not seemed to suffer any ill effects. I'm not to worried about the silica wick in a rebuildable.

I would probably suggest getting goodat the silica wicks to kinda learn how many wraps and how tight/loose the coil should be that werks for you then maybe go up to SS.

I drip straight into the tip, one of the best features of this atomizerto me cause I am a die hard dripper

But what do I know, I've only had my first rebuildable for 4 days:banana: but I love it. And making the coil was a snap as long as you have watched a bunch of videos about it and have a magnifying glass:w00t:

I got mine from VaporBi on monday and still using the 1.6 ohm pre-installed coil. All I have done is put the extra o-ring on and lift the coil a bit,oh and i dry burned right when i got it.Once i used it for a bit I played with the air hole placement and have found my sweet spot for th/vp/flavor.Where did you get it?

Thanks for the replies guys.. The phoenix came with an extra wick but I may give making my own a go for the hell of it. I'm usually technically challenged so it'll be interesting. At least it'll be a great unit to test flavors on..

Is it ok to dry burn with the silica?

You can dry burn with silica, just make sure you don't leave the coil glowing for too long or you'll pop it.

Cotton on the other hand, never dry burn with this, and only fire it when it's wet, or you'll char it down and will be replacing it instantly. You can go nuts with SS, as the wick will outlast the coil tenfold.

Thanks L7D4N, I can't wait to try the SS one day..

I tried making my first coil and it actually works! I couldn't believe it. It registered at 1.5 which I figured cause I only did about four wraps to give it a fighting chance on my first try. I was able to get one end of the kanthal through the little hole but the 2nd end was too difficult so I just wrapped it around the threads of the screw. It was alot easier than I thought. I still can't believe Grimmgreen cant do it lmao.. it's cake.

nice work man, the coil aint so hard. I replaced mine within the first 10 minutes. I just KNEW I could do better than the stock one......and i did!!

way to go

I think that stock one they just wrap a lil too tightly around the wick and each coil is right next to the other one, both of which do not help with wicking and they leave a lot of exposed wirh from the end of the coil to the post=burn taste.

I HATE burned taste!!!:headbang:
