OK, got bored, and brave, and took 4mudski's advice and raise the center pin on the Grand just a bit. Slapped the drilled out phoenix on my Grand and very gingerly hit the fire button. Success! She fired up beautifully! juice feed is perfect and the vape is fantastic. Now the only concern I have is brass or copper? I take it brass would be ok, but copper would be bad, right? The phoenix I'm using is the genuine version with the flat top, not the knock-off with the sloped top. Does anyone know for sure, or is there some way to find out definitively if this is brass or copper?

Wayne sent me one of these so I took it apart and made it a bottom fed atty . You will need a drill press a 5/64 and a 1/16 drill bit a 5/8 end mill and a small file . The atty is made of brass so its easy drilling and milling .One could probably do this with a large drill bit instead of a end mill . I tried to use tools that lots of you guys would have at home .I wanted to use the lath but I had to see if it could be done with the basics .
Here is a pick you can see I milled it down along with the neg and pos posts .I will break this down more for those that are interested but I am beat and ready to hit the sheets .I am not sure were you guys get these but I can see me making a couple of these

From what I understand the bottom piece is all SS... the top is chrome covered copper... I want to drill mine too (a clone-$8.99!) but if it is just plated copper will not... I like the ability to have more drops in the cup and would not see an advantage of cutting them off especially if I build a longer wick from cotton and a small amount 400 SS just at the coil... want to try my first bottom feeder and feel that being able to put 2 squonks in a phoenix would last long enough to not worry about leaving too much in it to only leak thereafter... if it just will flow back into the bottle all the better! I have never tasted my juice as well as this little Phoenix! (not that I have ever bought any expensive mods, mind you... the best taste before this was the 1.25 DC cartos, followed closely by the 1.7 Resurrectors)

I popped one of these apart the other day. Wish I took more pics and better pics but you will get the jest of it!
All I did was disassemble the atty and used a Dremel with a cutoff wheel to run a slit all the way down the center pin. Works great and it was easy!
