So I only have about 6 weeks experience vaping. I started out w/ a micro ego kit and cartos then quickly moved on to a Riva and ce4 setup and am currently using a Vision Spinner w/ a Vivi Nova tank and a 306 bridgeless for dripping/testing flavors. My next step seems to be a phoenix style rebuildable atomizer, my question is what do I need to know to get started using one of these? I have basic electronics knowledge, mostly from fixing computers and working on guitars/guitar parts (rewiring pickups etc) but how much knowledge do I need to use of these? Do I need a meter and if so where can I get one cheap?

Any info from an experienced user would be appreciated. btw I'm looking to start w/ this one from smartvapes since I really like their dripping atty and they're by far the cheapest I've seen - Vape - Phoenix Style Rebuildable Atomizer V3. If I like it I'm probably looking at getting a Vision eternity.

Not having sausage fingers helps too, and in my case, a nice pair of tweezers alleviates that problem. I picked up the Phoenix V2 from DV, Phoenix Rebuildable Atomizer - V2 and the included wick measured out at 2.0ohms and has been vaping great so far. From the looks of the V3, I would much prefer the wick setup on the V2 because you'd have the option of using a vertical wick setup or a horizontal one. Also, I would pass on the Eternity since their QC with that thing seems to be all over the place.

it looks like getting into these things is almost as overwhelming as when you stumble onto this forum the first time...there seems to be a huge gap between finding out about them and knowing what you're doing... ok i want to try a rba let's see what ppl are saying about them...and I run into all this stuff about silica wicks and oxidizing mesh...so lost right now lol.

If you're worried about making coils then you can always pick up premade ones, Rebuildable Atomizer - Bundle 12 Wick and Coil sets
I picked this up and it's built with 3 long strands of 1mm silica. I bought this with my Igo-L order and plan on using it with my Phoenix until I feel the urge to use different types of wicking material with it like cotton, cheese cloth, or SS. I replaced the first coil I made for my Igo-L with the premade and it wicks great and was easy to drop the ohms from 2.4 to 1.8 by just unrapping a bit of the wire. Just start of with the phoenix since it's a really simple setup and move onto SS/Genesis rebuildables once you've gained some more confidence.

Not sure about the spinner, but yes, a meter helps. I used the meter to figure out how much I needed to unwrap to get to Ohm rating that I wanted. I also use my meter to check batteries and continuity. An inexpensive meter will do you good but you'll want to see if there's any internal resistance on the leads by touch the positive and negative together. If you get 0.00 then it's good, but if you get something along the lines of 0.12 or basically anything that isn't 0.00 then you'll have to subtract that from the measurement you get when you test the coil.

You can also get away with not having a meter if you have a PV that can display your coil's Ohm rating, like the vamo or many of the other variable voltage mods out there. Then again, having a meter is never a bad thing.

Edit: and by meter I mean a digital multi-meter and not one that only works with ecigs.

I got a
Phoenix dripping rba. It's darling. And soooo quiet! Are all RBAs quiet? I put it on my Vamo It said 2.7 ohms for my 3.00 ohm ( the other ones were sold out. I had the Vamo set at 9.5 watts and took a couple hits. All fine. I hit the power button again and it wouldn't fire. Now it read 9.9 ohm. I thought I ruined it but it works on my little pulsing vv 4 setting mini ego. And the other things I use on the Vamo works. I probably should ask in the Vamo thread but really, I don't care. I'm not married to the Vamo. I have other stuff to use. No biggy. But iI am no longer intimidated. I like little wires. The DID clone I have waiting for attention looks all big and weird. And the pics people post make the wire look fat and globby like. But I guess that's just a close up all magnified. Maybe I'll be lucky when I do my own coils. But for for the low price...geeze. We will see how long the one lasts. Good deal

only time when my vamo shows 9.9 ohms is when the coil is shorted out. its weird that it works on other pv~

Dark,

VOM are very cheap, and a great tool for anything electronic. You can get these at Radio Shack, Home Depot, Lowes and many others for really cheap. Like others have said, testing the resistance (ohms) and battery voltages before and after charging is important. Especially when you get into the larger VV and VW devices which have batteries that can really ruin your day if something goes wrong.

I have bunch of the Vivi Nova's too and they work quite well for me. I hate the head markings for resistance is white where even with a maginfying glass it's tough to read the resistance. I check all the spares with a VOM and mark the condom things they are in so I can grab one when needed and know what it is, although my ZMax can read resistance too. I have bought the wicks (SS) and Kanthral wires in several gauges to start rebuilding the Vivi's and also for a RBA I ordered and is in route. Lot's of great videos on doing this on Utube.

Thx for the info. I'm gonna wait till I get my provari to dive into rba's though. If I have to settle for a Vamo at least that'll read ohms too :D. Easier than messin w/ meters I think.

Well. It's all kinda weird to me! Hmmmm so I just put the Phoenix on my little battery ( pretty fresh batteries for sure) powered black plastic box ohm reader and now it started at 7.00 ish and went down to 4.55ohm and stayed then i took it off and put it back on and it went down some more 3.5ohm. Now when I take it off and put it on it stays about the 3. Something below 3.5 range. If that all means anything. Yes the batteries in the reader are new enough. So, now I know why there are all those posts making it seem so difficult. I'm just going to keep using it on my little vv mini, which is that pulse type....I don't know what Vamo is. I read the battery in Vamoit once with a carto( the Passthrough battery reader clear) and it didn't read it because those don't read the pulsing type it shows a bunch of read dots moving in a row. Should have happened to somebody smart in electronics and probably has

I'm vaping on mine right now. I have no problem making the coils and the vape is the best flavor and produces lots of vapor. It is my favorite delivery device. :vapor:

So let's say it is close to needing juice. How many drops does it take? I'm used to doing 3-ish but this looks like it will take more but I don't want to stress it
