Minne-soda!
I have yet to clean out my nasty phoenix tank, maybe tomorrow. As for the xl's, I bought one box of 5. I have two that I can clean and refill and taste great, 1 I filled once and was good, after that it was nothing but gross taste so I tossed it. And one I sent to a friend. Then there was one it seems as though I lost :/ So basically 2 out of 5 worked for me so far. Still looking for that other one with my drip tip on it :(

i am talking about the 3ml version. i thought it was primer or whatever else the coils were coated with, it tasted downright putrid....however, i was told it was nothing but chinese tobacco. part of me still wont believe it because if i change flavors (when the tank is empty) the new flavor comes to full life within 5-10 puffs. the putrid taste on the 3ml phoenix lasted 3ml's of vaping. (and thats why i think its some grease in the coils)

it doesnt take 3mls of vaping to change from one flavor to another.

did you take it apart, clean it , dry burn it, it is juice, its a nutty gross cheap bacco they use to wet it, wont be used anymore , its not in all of them because some lines used straight pg/vg and another line used that nasty stuff, so thats why ome have it , some dont, now they all come dry.

no i didnt,i vaped right through it.

the thing is, i can have menthol in the tank, and when its done i can fill it (without cleaning in between) with another juice (non menthol) and the juice in the tank comes into full flavor after 10 puffs.

im surprised that the coils and the little bit of wick takes 3 mls of other liquid to burn through the nutty tobacco.

its one of those flavors thats hard to explain, but its happened to me on a few occasions mostly with dekang style juice and usually nasty tobacco ones, i had a couple of tobaccos and a few odd usa flavors do the same but nothing like that stuff.

its so strong that even after a full soak and wash and dry burn, it can still linger for a minute or so before it goes away after that process.

Its probably the nastiest burnt rubber taste ive ever tasted. That tank and i are gonna have words tomorrow. I will not vape through 3ml of that. Yuck.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Agreed, I haven't had the issue with anything else that I use so I will probably let it have words with the garbage. I guess my $11 plus 3ml of juice lesson is to read the forums before ordering anything.

well, after the following (XL version)

- take completely apart
- dry burn primer crap off the coil/wick
- 30 min soak in rubbing alcohol
- another dry burn
- 30 min soak in rubbing alcohol
- another dry burn
- overnight soak in water
- let dry for a bit
- another dry burn
- raise coil if it sits too low
- rinse under faucet real well with hot water
- let dry
- one more dry burn

Awesome, they work awesome. Solve the primer crap issue and these rock. (oh and get an 808 reg version. being vocal again)

Conclusion: great product, just a bad batch with the primer crap. Can't blame gotvapes, its sorta out of there control and solved going forward.

Just make sure if you see the wicks wet, you take it apart and dry burn the crap out of it. The primer crap is on the wick (a taste test confirmed)

Oh and thanks gotvapes, my pack had 6 instead of 5. (Unless perhaps I cant count)

Thanks,

Chris

I realize that this might sound condescending, but please know that I don't mean it that way. I'm completely genuine here.

I'm just amazed that anyone might actually toss one of these due to the flavor without cleaning it or tinkering. I'm sorry if I misunderstood that. And you might not particularly care for tinkering with cartos, but these require *very little* tinkering aside from when you first get them.

I've been vaping for over a year and I more or less expect any carto to come with a crappy taste initially due to whatever they do to keep the wicks wet before they get to a customer. Straight pg/vg or a yucky tobacco flavor like some of these had. You really don't even have to vape through it, that was just how I did it. I used a really stout flavor that mostly covered it up. It wasn't pleasant, but I got through it just fine. YMMV, of course.

Anyway, an initial cleaning should definitely take care of it. I cleaned the XLs after I vaped through it in my 3ml tank and knew what I was in for. I stick it on a battery, take out the seal, wiggle the tube until it comes off and take it off of the battery. Then, I rinse the tube out really well along with the metal tube that runs from the base to the seal and the seal itself. After that, I hold the base under hot running water, turning it so the water runs directly onto the wicks. My water pressure sort of sucks, so if you have high pressure, it might not be a good idea to run it full blast. I sort of fluff the wicks with my finger while I do this to separate the strands while I do this, just so the center gets cleaned at least a little.

Sometimes I leave the tube on first and blow water through it like Christ did on the video before I disassemble it, sometimes I don't. It would probably be best to do that with the first clean if you're trying to get the nasty stuff out. Once I've done all of that, I push a paper towel through the plastic tube to get all of the water out. I put the base on the battery after drying it off a bit and give it a little dry burn. Doesn't take much. Stick the post back in and make sure it's straight, then the tube and the seal. Fill it about halfway and presto, the flavor is fine.

After that, you will have to clean it from time to time but you won't really need to disassemble it. I got some of those Dentek brushes, so I do take mine apart every other or every third cleaning just to scrub the coil a bit because some gunk just needs to be loosened up. But after this first cleaning, it's pretty fiddle free.

Even the ones that give frequent dry hits can almost always be fixed, going by what I've read on the Phoenix thread. I've saved both of the ones I had that did this, although I thinned the wicks too much on one of them and it started flooding/leaking. It's a matter of trimming the wicks a bit, slightly thinning them out or lifting the cup a little. If you're getting dry hits and the wicks are pointing straight up after you take the tube off, you probably need to lift the cup.

All you have to do is stick the tip of your syringe (after cleaning any juice off of it) up the threaded end at a slight angle so it hits the edge of the bottom of the cup. Then you nudge it very gently to avoid breaking a wire or otherwise damaging it, until the wicks aren't pointing upward quite so much. Put about half a ml in it and seen how it does.

If that doesn't help, just turn it upside down and suck all the juice you can out of it. Take off the tube and clean off any juice that wouldn't go to the seal with a paper towel or something and try to trim the wicks. For me, having them flush with the widest part of the base worked well. You can just use some nail clippers for this or cuticle scissors like I did. You can find those anywhere you can buy other nail products like clippers, files, etc. I got mine at the dollar store! And, if that doesn't work, use a pair of tweezers to pull some of the wick out. I think I probably took about maybe 1/4 of the wick on one of mine and it's great. The other, I might have taken half of it which was overkill for me as they weren't THAT thick. I'd suggest that you err on the side of caution.

Again, if you don't like fiddling, please know that you'll only have to do this ONE time. If you're able to get it working properly, then that's that. And don't be afraid to try this stuff if you'd otherwise just be tossing it! You have everything to gain and nothing to lose since tinkering with it is better than just throwing it away. Furthermore, I'm sure someone around here would be happy to take it off your hands and pay for shipping if they believe they can fix it themselves.

[Edit] Dang, I wrote a novel again. Sorry!

Both my 3ml Phoenix tanks had the awful taste. I fully cleaned and disassembled and still had the taste. It always seems to be the larger tank cartos that have this awful taste. Same thing happened with my stones and I never went back to it.

You have to wonder. This awful taste does not seem to be a byproduct of just bad juice the factories used. It doesn't taste right and it can't be harmless either. Who really knows what they put in there? Tastes like some type of machine oil or lubricant. I'm done with these 3 ml Phoenix.

Exactly. It's def some oil or lubricant we should not be ingesting. Smoking e cigs with Chinese juice is already risky enough. I'd rather not take my chances

Let me assume this is partially due to what I posted and explain my point of view. I do understand that I can fiddle/tweak and get it work but I don't particularly want to. I purchased it as something that I would not have to as opposed to if I purchase fluxos and know that I will. As I stated I have carts/tanks that I don't need to tweak so I am not sure what I am gaining by wasting my time trying to get this one to not taste horrible.

Also, the 11 bucks isn't the issue, it's the principle. Got Vapes has many things on their website/product page, why not have prep instructions for those that may need it, specifically these and fluxos. None of these things come with instructions and as far as I could tell, the videos show takedown but don't specifically instruct that you should prior to using. So a link to a document with prep/instructions would probably benefit a lot of people. I appreciate the videos showing filling and cleaning but I think some warning about what really needs to be done prior to use would be a good business practice.

I should have known better as I read these forums (more so than my post count would indicate) but not everyone who vapes wants to have to search a forum for instructions on how to have their product operate as advertised. I don't expect it from every little store but I would like to see it from the larger ones.

Oh, it wasn't specifically aimed at you, I've heard it several times since these came out. I wish we didn't have to tweak, but some of them just have thicker wicks, the cup is lower, extra primer or stubborn primer, etc. I've used one that was immediately perfect. No primer in it (I guess I got one of the dry ones), wicked perfectly and all that jazz.

I want to say that I completely agree with you 100000% about having better instructions for the extra stuff like this. Maybe not necessarily a video, but written instructions that can be printed out. I have a hard time absorbing information that I hear but I'm an absolute sponge if I read something. I usually have to watch the videos 3 or 4 times to understand what to do with these things.
