How is the trigger on that? I have been looking at this and the SIG P320.
The trigger may be it's #1 attribute! SO smooth and at just over 5#'s, a very easy pull. Has a longish easy draw, owing to some generous take-up but it tightens just before the break and the reset is very short. You don't have to let it out much before it's ready to cycle. You can hear and feel the reset too, so if you want quick follow up shots, you are going to love it!
There is an undercut under the trigger, and I have huge hands so even with my finger relatively high on the trigger, I feel the edges of the undercut. It's polymer, so it isn't going to chafe or anything, but it is the one thing I might modify by taking a small fine file and some very fine paper to, to put a small polished radius on. I'm not shy about modifying my pieces to make them perfect.
Another SWEET bonus, is the multitude of grip inserts. I have unusually big hands. 2XL gloves are a lil tight. I'm running the medium back strap, the fat side grip on my palm side to get perfect finger tip placement on the trigger, and the flattest side grip on the other side to get a complete hand wrap around the grip. With 3 backs, and 3 different sides, you have 27 combinations of grip shapes to play with!
The only controversial aspect of the HK, is the plastic "wings" for racking the slide. I love em. I was trained to just keep pulling back, and letting the slide tear itself from my pull to prevent short stroking and not getting a clean strip of the cartridge. The rounded plastic is MUCH kinder on the fingers than steel serrations.
I'm also a big fan of HK's horizontal trigger-guard side paddle mag releases vs. side buttons. More intuitive to me, and faster. Lets me think solely about placing the new mag instead of hunting that button. The Sig had a more robust ejection though, if you are prone to doing a horizontal swap.
They are both GREAT pieces, and you'll love either. You might want to check out the Walther PPQ too, another serious contender if you are wanting a striker. For me, the grip options, slide wings, and paddle mag release sold me.
Both are awesome pieces! You're going to be pretty happy with either. I have a lot of love for Walther and HK, but since it is serious money, and more importantly, for a carry instead of merely as a target piece, I gave an honest chance to all 3. Price was a much lower priority than function, but at $590 for the HK, that was just bonus. I can't believe it isn't a couple benji's more. It would still be worth it.
I DO have a couple niggles with the HK after putting a couple hundred rounds through it in the past 2 days. Besides the slight distraction of the trigger undercut edges, the mag has a sharp corner that WILL get a lil piece of you if you are trying to reload a mag quickly without the included "plunger". Also, one I did not read anywhere, but the mid-trigger safety blade could have been a little fatter and more rounded. It chafed my finger a bit in quick volleys, but I understand that the trigger "softens" after break in. It was considerably less noticeable by the end of the 4th box. The slide release is small and close, and it's tight brand new, but that also softens pretty quick.
Whew. Sorry for the book, but you won't have any surprises about the things you can't tell just handling em. I don't know what niggles I'd find in the other two.
Oh, and skip the tritium sight upgrade. The stock glow-in-the-dark are big, bright in daylight, and if fed a little light before it gets dark, REALLY glow bright. The tritium are considerably darker in daylight, and my fuzzy near-vision didn't like em.
