Lots of pass throughs classy :(

The deals and steals and contest threads get activity, as do the small item and juice swaps threads.

Now that gear is easier to purchase, and much cheaper than say, 4 years ago, the PIF threads don't move much....

The most social threads are the still smoking thread and the answer is a question thread.....

It's sad, but it's not dead. Our emergency needs are met quickly still. Many of our warm and fuzzy people have flown the coup - some became vendors.....others are more active in their favorite vendor social area......and some left because some of the "not so nice" people hung out here too. It could be pretty brutal 4 years ago in here; I'm sure you remember.

Haven't had a contest in a while.......it brings people in....most don't stay....

With chicken or turkey, slurping mayo on them before roasting is a great choice!

Another thing I picked up is brining; with chicken, let it soak in very salty cold water for a while (depends on the size of the pieces you're working with; 12 hours is good for a whole chicken). But, whatever time you have. Really helps to keep the meat juicy (and doesn't make it extra-salty!)

Most turkeys come already brined unless they're fresh.

I often do a quick-pickle of cukes (vinegar+sugar). Also have pickled eggs a couple of times.

My favorite is a "7-day salad". A bunch of different kinds of beans, chopped onion, and optionally corn, cauliflower, etc. (Kind of hard to get the cauliflower cut the right size, though). Add vinegar+sugar, a little oil, a bit of water, and a healthy dose of MSG. Leave in the fridge for at least a week.
