Started a new thread so anyone searching would see the answer easily..

I know that the plastic kind of gets in the way of the spring making connection to the battery.

Can we just remove that plastic part of the battery Steve?

Brandon
Why not just bend the end of the spring a bit with a pair of pliers to make it smaller.

I would trim the plastic...but I don't own anything sharp

Haha.. I know it's bad.

I don't know how to use tools and I don't really own any.... it becomes a problem when I find a little project I want to start on.

I need to get some handyman skills badly.

So removing all of the plastic doesn't harm the battery in anyway? (Stupid question I know but I'm a worrier to a fault).

I took a razer and trimmed off the ends. Not a problem to either battery. This is a great and quick fix if you ask me.

Anyone know if leaving the batteries to charge in my car (it's been hitting the low 100s here in TX regularly) will damage them at all?

Brandon

P.S. Plus I'm going camping this weekend so will need to charge them somehow.

Would like to know if the Tenergy batteries are still safe without the plastic - stripped one of mine as described above. They sat on the charger for 7 hrs and the light stayed red. They were as hot as h***! So was the charger. Finally decided the plastic may have prevented them charging properly - could that be true?

Another worrier,

C.

If it is a protected battery there will be a small circuit board on one end or the other of the battery. The plastic sleeve is pretty much all that holds it in place. Also there will be a very thin strip running from the top (pos.) down to the circuit board. This strip is insulated from the body (neg) by some tape and the plastic sleeve. Should you start stripping the plastic off, take great care not to disturb the metal strip or the insulating tape.
Because if you do, it dead shorts the battery and it gets very angry.
