So I've been vaping since 09, but got stuck on the eGo and Twist style and never really felt like upgrading.
Recently bought an iStick 30 with Nautilus mini tank. The guy that sold it to me told me it will only be enjoyable around 10/11W.
So I'm curious can anybody explain tanks to me? If I wanted to go to, say a 100W mod I'm obviously wasting my time with a tank that can only vape at 10% capacity.
Does a lower resistance let you use more watts? Are these details listed on the packaging of tanks? Can't you just put a lower resistance coil in that tank? At what ohm rating does it become "sub ohm"? What tank to do recommend for iStick 100W tw?

Thanks guys
Nick

"Tanks" is kinda a Loosely thrown around term. And encompass about everything that Isn't a Clearomizer, Cartomizer and or RDA.

But simplistically speaking, Tanks are kinda broken down into 3 Categories.

Tanks that can Only Use Pre-Made Coil Heads.
Tanks that can Only Use user Rebuildable Coils.
Tanks that can use Either Pre-Made Coils or a User Made Coil.

How well a Tank Works is dependent on Many things. Perhaps the Biggest though is how well does the Wick provide a given e-Liquid to the Coil.

Some Pre-Made Coils don't work well with Thick, High VG e-Liquids. Whereas with a Tank that you Rebuild yourself, you can Fine Tune the Wicking so enough e-Liquid reaches the Coil without causing Leaking.

Pre-Made Coils are Very Easy to use. Just screw one in, Prime It, and start Vaping.
Building you own Coils involves a Few More Steps. But the Hit you get is Many Times Better.

Ohms and Watts are kinda Interdependent. Lower Ohms are Many Times used with Higher Wattage. And Visa Versa.

The Term "Sub Ohm" technically refers to Ohms that are Lower than 1 Ohm.

It's Very Hard to Make a Recommendation to someone about what Tank they might like without know a Few Basic things.

Do want a Tank where you just screw in a Pre-Made Coil?
Do want a Tank where you make your Own Coils?
Do you want Both?

I have no idea how to make coils. I would burn the house down probably. Lol

Although I wouldn't rule it out in the future if it becomes increasingly difficult to get new coils.

So I guess one that can use both.. Thanks!

Owning a Naut Mini, I generally use a kayfun style tank on my iStick 30 at around 8.5 5 to 9 watts; 12-15 mg juice.

I've tried subohm; it's not my style. I feel it's way overrated. I do not wish more stress on my lungs, nor the battery or juice consumption.

With the iStick, I charge it about every other day, as oppose to the Twist which needed charging almost twice a day.

    Best of luck :).

Edit; coils are super easy to build; check out YouTube. You can guesstimate your build on the iStick, as long as it's not subohm.

P.S. I know I didn't answer your question, but if your an ex-smoker and have been vaping this long, my guess is that you don't need 100 watts.

What I would suggest is that you look into a Kanger Subtank Mini.

It can run either Pre-Made coil heads that come in a Decent Range of Ohms. Or you can use the Included RBA Section and try your hand at making your Own Coils. Or do both.

Making your own coils Isn't all that Bad. And once you have done it a Few Times you kinda get the Rhythm of it. But it is Nice to be able when you are New to Coil building to be able to screw in a Pre-Made Coil head and hit the road running.

    Great advise so far.
Try thinking of the atomizer like an engine. Fuel (e-liquid), air and watts (revs) being the three factors.
As you apply higher wattages to your coils, you need more air and the wicking has to be able to supply more e-liquid. The holes that supply the air and juice in the nautilus are quite small, therefore you are limited in the amount wattage you can use without getting a burnt hit.

My vape shop has the Atlantis V2 for $49.00. I see it online for $32 and eBay for $12. Do you think either of the cheaper ones are knock offs? The online site is myvaporahop and I trust them but don't understand an almost 20 dollar difference...

I can All but Garauntee that those $12 Atlantis V2's on e-Bay are Knock-Offs.

Just like every ones of these Atlantis V2 "Styled" Tanks is.

    FastTech - Gadgets and Electronics

Not to say that you can't get a Good Tank if it is Not an Original. Because some Knock-Offs are Very Good Quality. But some are Not.

So Customer Reviews are Very Important.

ETA: Anything on Fasttech that has the word "Styled" in the description is a Knock-Off/Clone. And things that are listed as "Authentic" are Genuine.

    This might help...

Proper Terminology: Is it a carto, a tank, or what? A Guide to Juice Delivery Devices
    • A picture dictionary for beginners with descriptions of clearomizers, nano's, drip atomizers, bottom feeding mods, cartomizers, cartotanks, and RBA's (rebuildable atomizers). Includes video demos/reviews of all devices.
If you're getting a high wattage regulated mod (over 25 watts), you'll likely want a sub-ohm clearomizer tank like the Aspire Atlantis or Triton, or Uwell Crown Tank.

As stated above, sub-ohm refers to any coil resistance which is under 1.0 ohm. The lower the resistance of the coil, the more current it will accept from the processor/battery device and the hotter the coil will become when you press the button. This makes more vapor, but requires more battery power and consumes more e-liquid.
