I am honestly at a loss. I am extremely outdated on what's good for the new users looking for their first setup. A little while back, almost anyone could at least get a foot in the door with a Twist/Spinner and a Protank 2. Now I don't read a lot of good stuff about the more recent batches of Kanger replacement heads.

I can't just go around recommending my personal preferences to new users. Which would be mechanicals and gennies.

Would love to be able to help with specific items rather than "You have to do some research". Ideally, I should be able to supply whatever they needed to research in the first place. Now that my usual Twist/Spinner/Protank2 doesn't seem like a good recommendation...

What to do...? Not just thinking of the New Members Forum, but also friends and family that ponder switching.

Good environment here for the ethical and humane treatment of noobs. Some, in some other forums, can be quite intimidating and mighty presumptuous, pouncing on eGo and clearo users and spiraling off into the ozone like an Asperger's sufferer with paragraphs of nothing but condescension. Mods won't let that go on here, not for long, not at all if they can help it. The air of superiority of some of the experienced toward some of the noobs is just ridiculous. But the number of cool folks who help and know what they're doing is much greater.

Had one member with over 1,000 posts PM me for advice on sub-ohm vaping when my post count was less than 100. Said she saw my screen name and figured I might be able to break the laws of physics for her and get her coils to fire. Wondered why her sub-ohm and low-ohm coils would not fire on her electronic mod. Told her my understanding so far is that many electronic mods and batteries won't fire coils below about 1.5 ohms as a safety feature, basically reads it as a hard short and won't fire. Then suggested she check with the pros and vets around here for a more experienced answer. Very nice member, it was all good. Just that you never know, maybe even a noob can help someone who's been around a while too.

I was a little paranoid. Thought it might be an ECF moderator trying to find out how much this little upstart with the tough-guy name knows, keep an eye on this guy. lol. Those who read my posts know that this nickname and persona are just that. I have no beard and no criminal record.

I feel the same way, my preferred vape has been a Reo with a RM2 for months now, and I don't know anything about the new clearo's. Most questions that I see I can't answer because I've never used the product.

Your name says bad a** but your avatar says I am here to help. Everyone knows if you have electrical issues you ask a vulcan.

I don't venture over there as much as I should. There are tons of times I am over there going "Jeez not this again" and I do sometimes wonder if anybody searches anymore. Some sites will trash you for posting something that is been asked a thousand times. But that is what makes this place great. A lot of people don't even know where to begin to search, and then combing through hundreds of posts to find the ones that are relevant to you might cause some to just give up. We are stronger in numbers. By posting their exact issue they get immediate responses to their exact situation, and they feel obligated to help when they are in a position to do so.

All the help I got here, either directly in a question, or indirectly via a search, I feel obliged to help where I can, but stay out when I am over my head. I try to remember how I felt when I gave up smoking for this but hit a snag and prayed there was a solution so I didn't have to go back to smoking. By taking the easy ones hopefully the real vets will continue and take the hard ones.

And this is why I love and hate forums. Yes, the information is there if you look for it. Yes, new people or people in general, want instant gratification. I totally understand where frustration lies with the vets here but let's be honest. There is plenty of new stuff coming out weekly that no one person can keep up with. I'm still a noob by definition here but will help as much as I can with my short experience with devices as well as with what I've read. I won't give opinions on something I've read though. I'll try not to at least. I do appreciate this forum for the plethora of info it has but everyone needs to chip in imo. Provide whatever experience you've had. Just don't bombard the noobs with, "buy the legal vape 4000" type posts. That'll turn them off very quickly and keep them on analogs. That's my .02.

This is an adult forum, not a day care center.

Darn now I got two problems: I am married, and Nikkita wouldn't like me anyway because im needy????

Thats a joke Nikkita, dont get mad.

I will go help, but some of the questions?????????????? huh????? yah know got to learn a tish about what a ecig is, before you start asking questions which dont fit...............

Suggestion for the moderators, put in a thread for newbies, if people google there questions, those questions have answers from old threads from this website, and others

I try to help but some with a whole month as members here are convinced they know better.

yeah but Vermonster isnt it about what you tried? I am sure you do know lots more about vaping than I, i been at it for a while but not as long as you. Look at the Kanger stuff, people are complaining all the time, yet the recommendations keep pooring in. I have absolutely no Kanger interest because of the complaints, but people keep recommending them to noobs to vaping.

And while the forum moderators dont allow advertising, it can be sneaky business recomending websites and such, they cant stop that. about the best you can do with a noobie is tell them to buy a kit system and give it a try. Its always different strokes anyway.........................

I help where I have the knowledge to do so. I just wish people would learn to use the search feature. How many repeat posts can you read and answer when the answer has been given so many times already. Sorry for the mini rant. I will go answer 5 questions now for my punishment.

I manage online communities for a living (for almost 20 years now) and the problem is that many people don't even realize they *can* search the forums. They come, they get overwhelmed, and the best they can manage is to ask their question in the place where it looks like it belongs. This thing with new folks happens on every forum. Some awesome people will make it a point to welcome the newbies and answer their questions, even if they're repeating the same things over and over and over; other people get frustrated and should just avoid the newbie forum. :) Not everyone has the same level of internet savvy and I suspect for a lot of our members it's the first forum they've ever posted on. Forums can be pretty overwhelming for new users.

You are right I suspect. I do answer the questions I can. I can dream about the search can't I?

Related to using the search feature, how about people you start in the middle of a big thread and ask questions that were already asked and answered 50 posts ago????? :) Same answer I know but had to throw it in since I forgot it earlier, and yes I either answer their question or copy the appropriate link and post it in reply to their question. Just dreaming again.

Why are you making the assumption that more experienced members are not helping them out? I have seen plenty of activity of vets over there answering questions ... something I "used to do" as well, but I am done with the new members forum. Too many of them don't listen anyway. They ask for the advice, and recommendations, then many of them do what they want any way, and then come back later with the good ole help me thread.

Yes, I was a new vaper too once upon a time, and ECF is the forum where I received ALL of my how to, and what to do information, for which I am grateful, and joined this forum just so I could say thank you ... I got started, and advanced when I was ready without ever starting a single "tell me what to do, what to buy, how to fix my problem" thread ... not a single one in the entire 2 years I have been a member here.

All of the information is there, for anyone with the patience, discipline, and interest in helping themselves. I am so done thinking for people, and cautioning those who want it all now. And FYI, if the above does not apply to you, then I am not talking about you.

A lot of folks asking for opinions basically seek confirmation for their prejudices ;)

Youtube's full of 'fail' clips of peeps not listening or ignoring common sense:

Post 1 : "What happens if I mix 'A' with 'B' ?

Post 2 to xx : "Don't, 'cuz it'll make boom"

Post xx+1 : "Anyone 's got any advice on how to quick fix a roof ?"

As you said, them's beyond advice. But there are others, who aren't shy posting a 'thank you' either :)

Everybody was a noob once...

I just keep a good set of bookmarks - it's not that hard. Someone showing up asking about where to get gear in Singapore wouldn't even know what to search for to find the SG Vapers social forum. Same for how to get to the classifieds - the verification sticky. How do I add a banner or an avatar - bookmarks for those instructions on ECF. Really - it's not that hard even if you have seen the same question a bazillion times. Considering how damned large this forum is - yeah, even searching for basic information isn't all that basic here. It's not all that hard to help out.

I have spent many many hours in there.
Even recently I have been in there attempting to help where ever possible.

But OMG it is like a kindergarten at times and a Zoo at others. It is hard enough to explain things in a simplified manor to assist a New Vapor. But to then be run over by New Vapors offering their opinions and insisting they know what is best for the Op, it gets to be to much at times.
You end up with thirty different posters offering suggestions of 30 different Toppers on 20-30 different batteries/mods and the Ooriginal Op wandering of aimlessly more confused than ever.

Jan. is traditionally the busiest month for new converts. Hopefully things will calm down soon and we can get back into a true routine of assisting.
