I am honestly at a loss. I am extremely outdated on what's good for the new users looking for their first setup. A little while back, almost anyone could at least get a foot in the door with a Twist/Spinner and a Protank 2. Now I don't read a lot of good stuff about the more recent batches of Kanger replacement heads.

I can't just go around recommending my personal preferences to new users. Which would be mechanicals and gennies.

Would love to be able to help with specific items rather than "You have to do some research". Ideally, I should be able to supply whatever they needed to research in the first place. Now that my usual Twist/Spinner/Protank2 doesn't seem like a good recommendation...

What to do...? Not just thinking of the New Members Forum, but also friends and family that ponder switching.

I feel the same way. Ever since I switched to mechs/rebuildables, I really don't know of the best starting points for new vapers because I no longer follow/research that end of the market. An ego/carto worked well for me when I started vaping, but I have no idea if that's a good suggestion today.

I have spent many many hours in there.
Even recently I have been in there attempting to help where ever possible.

But OMG it is like a kindergarten at times and a Zoo at others. It is hard enough to explain things in a simplified manor to assist a New Vapor. But to then be run over by New Vapors offering their opinions and insisting they know what is best for the Op, it gets to be to much at times.
You end up with thirty different posters offering suggestions of 30 different Toppers on 20-30 different batteries/mods and the Ooriginal Op wandering of aimlessly more confused than ever.

Jan. is traditionally the busiest month for new converts. Hopefully things will calm down soon and we can get back into a true routine of assisting.

I'm not usually home this time of day and just peeked in there - over 500 people there. Oh my word! It's all over the place. It's not your basic questions either. It's hard to click on anything at all and make sense of it, really.

I was reading someone with 5 posts recommend cleaning coils with Dawn for residue "hey you could try dawn". Yeah, it works on dishes, but I've also read where people ruin their gear with dish liquid. Sure, that 5 poster might have been at it 5 years.

If I feel I can help, I post a reply - based on my own experience. If I think someone is heading toward bad territory, I suggest they do more research. I'm no seasoned vet. I'm only 7 months in.

Bubble juice anyone?

I liked this thread when it first popped up. I have been lurking the new members for the last hour and there are some first time posters asking questions I don't have the answers to. The sad thing is that apparently no one has the answers because no one is saying anything. I know I should just be patient and let things run their own course but I thought maybe bumping this thread might get some folks over there to help some of the newbs.

I try to make it there when I can. Doesn't that count of readers also count those of us who do go to help out there? Also, some of those who have gone deep into rebuilding may not be much of a help to a newbie. I've seen a fee recommend rebuildables, mech mods, sub ohming.... On threads were the newbie is just trying to figure out which clearo came in their blister pack starter kit. That could set up a dangerous situation. I agree though, that those of us who are somewhere in the middle should probably help out there more often though. I admit I haven't been over there in a while.

:ohmy:I am still a noob, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. Gotta tell you, the most important things I learned, I read in the new members forum. I read most of the way through. Yeah, there are a lot of repeated questions, but for me, the repetition was a great help. Later, after I felt more comfortable, and started to learn the difference between a carto and a battery and an atty and an ohm, I started to check out the rest of the forum. I admit to feeling like a kindergartener, but the new members forum got me through without smoking. I felt so much better because I wasn't the only one who seemed to be feeling really stupid, and asking stupid questions.

Those that can't handle helping people like me should stay away. Those that don't mind a little hand holding, please, us noobs need you.

You should see the questions I've been asking for the last few days.Stuff alot of people pick up in their first few weeks of vaping. I'm asking lots of newb questions and Ive been vaping for well over a year. I bumped this thread because I know how frustrating it is for me to ask a question and it take forever to get an answer. But I have to say that I think everytime I have ever asked a question I have always received an answer. Maybe not quickly and maybe not many but I have always had an answer given. I hate not having the knowledge to answer someones question. I want to help because so many have helped me.

I hate to see anyone jump in to the expensive stuff, right off the bat. What if they end up not taking to vaping? I also don't see anything wrong with starting small. I started with egos and they got me off of cigs. I feel sad when I see egos getting put down like their garbage.

Savoir-Faire is everywhere!
I poke around over there occasionally. I'm usually not much help, because I don't have a ton of devices, so my opinion on whatever is the best isn't very helpful. Though tonight I did see a question on how to open a juice bottle. I could have helped with that, but others beat me to it. :D
Do they mean with or without dumping it all over yourself? LOL

This^^^^

I admit I have a fair bit of high end gear these days but ya know what I still have 3 egos and 2 tiwsts sitting on my desk with clearos ready to rock and roll. They sit right next to my REOs and Provaris and mech. Ya know what else? I still USE those egos.

There is always a place for simple in any vape collection.

What I find comical is the fact that someone will post a thread asking advise on getting a cheaper kit, or another asking for info on where's the best place to buy a iclear30s... Then you'll see people responding with, "get a Kayfun" or "get into rebuildables". I love rebuildables but it's not for everyone. If somebody is new why would you recommend something that is for more advanced vapors?

I've been vaping for quite a while even though I've only been a member here for a bit. I try to help at times but it gets too crazy sometimes. I find it funny to watch some of these threads though. Many turn into huge arguments over nothing.

Yeah that is why I took about a 6 month hiatus from the new members section.

Worse the forum regulars KNOW I rebuild and use mechs so they get absolutely outraged when I don't channel new people in that direction.

Since when does having the ability to read, comprehend, and execute make anyone "high and mighty" ? I don't consider myself high and mighty because I can read, and comprehend ... that just make me a functionally capable adult. Project much?

And you are right, those who are fully capable of thinking for themselves, following basic, and well written instruction appear to be slim in numbers these days.. This is an adult forum, not a day care center.

Well said.

My own sense is that the General forum has become pretty much a new users forum for the most part these days anyway.

I just saw there are 498 viewers over there. It would be nice if those of you who can help answer questions would spend some time helping out a noob. Remember that we all started out at the beginning. I have never seen the new members forum have such a high number of visitors at 1 time.

Done. I begin my day on ECF in the new members forum, and check back on a regular basis. :vapor:

No nooooo, coat hanger wire is so 2013

12 gauge copper is where it's at in 2014 :rickroll:

(Sorry, couldn't resist. Oh, and don't try the copper or the coat hanger, I was just kidding.)

...Soooo my idea for a 4ga copper coil wrapped around a blue foam pool swimmie on my Optima gel cell is out then?!?

Had this the other day, someone asking about bottom coil vs. iclears. I brought up eventually rewicking with cotton, but suggested a few clearos to start with. Of course, the rebuildables and cartos came in (I did mention ibtanked), and poor fella comes back with how do you rewick with cotton, and how does he know he's not inhaling cart filler or silica.

This person isn't ready for rsst, etc. he didn't know about proper wicking (and I'm still learning that myself). Yes, I watch riptrippers videos, but I also talked a newb from amazon customer service in wa state, to google and join this forum. I still have my halo gear with g6 mini tanks, and I can fill them in a punch. 808's are also getting more avp wannabe, since they want to keep that market as newbs advance.

Mechs and mods, when one should just learn how to rewick the coils they have (great experience), and definitely don't start out doing that when the person just bought a blu ecig from 7-11. Another good suggestion, have them head to local vape shop. Sure, they might spend more, but it's a starting point, just my newb :2c:
