Hello all. This is my first post at ECF.
I am a complete beginner with clearomiser vaping. I have been using my new Kanger eVod for about 10 days now (standard model, 3.7v, 1.8ohm). I finally got to the point where it is time to change the coils. I found out from all the great info on the forum that you can clean them! Happy days!
Unfortunately my efforts thus far have failed. The problem I think is that I am dry burning too long and actually irreversibly damaging the wicking material in the eVod coil assembly.
Let me say what I did step-by-step and then all you nice vapor-vets can tell me where I went wrong.
1. Rinsed coil assembly under hot tap water.
2. Removed the two "flavor" wicks and patted dry with paper towel.
3a. Rinsed with boiling water from the kettle.
3b. Soaked for a bit in alcohol then rinsed.
3c. Soaked in alcohol then used the microwave boil method.
4. Dry burned - pulsing for a few seconds (smoke comes off coil), then a bit more (no more smoke), then a bit more (coils are glowing red), and even a bit more to make sure!
5a. Rinsed coil in warm water to remove any residual gunk/burnt.
5b. Microwave boiled clean.
6. Pat dry. Replace flavor wicks.
7. Vape with a horrible burnt taste.
Ok so you can see that I varied it up a bit with a few different methods that people on the forum suggest. At the end of it all I think - please correct me if I am wrong - that I permanently burnt the wicking material by dry burning too long. After it was rinsed and dried after the dry burn, there was still brown/black marks on the wick.
Is it possible to permanently burn this material??? (I have no idea what type of thread they use on the eVod coils...noob here!)
If it is, then I am simply dry burning way too long.
When do I stop dry burning? Is it immediately when the coils return to that nice red glow, or do I continue to pulse with the red glow for a bit longer?
Any help is MUCH APPRECIATED! I've tossed these 2 failed (I think failed!) coils and would like to preserve my remaining three as long as possible before buying more.
LOVE THE FORUM!
