I'm having some issues with my 510. I vape all day long without a problem (always topped off and two drops on the atty) but as soon as I have my last vape laying in bed I melt my plastic carts. This happened two nights in a row. I'm not sure what's worse...smoking a pack of analogs for the day or ingesting burning plastic once a day.

I know cartomizers are usually metal, but do they make plastic carts for the 510? I don't want to switch over to a cartomizer setup because I like the setup with the wick and dripping two drops on the atty.

The only reason I think this is happening is because I'm trying to be cheap. I know that I'm about to blow out the atty for the night after my last vape so I intentionally let it get a little dry. After melting two carts I realized that plastic might not be the best option. Any suggestions?

Here's one design - I made a couple with brass tube

I'm not interested in making them for sale - too much hassle.

If you're looking for a metal cartridge, you could try a brass T-tip from Super T Manufacturing (he'll be making them in stainless steel soon, too). There are a few threads with reviews in the Super T subforum. The hole is bored out enough to drip through, too. They're 15.99 each but they'll last forever, unlike the plastic carts.

I should note they won't work with wick/filler, just for dripping, but they're quite classy and well-made. The 901/510 (which is sold out at the moment...website says he'll be getting more in a week) also fits cartomizers, which makes topping off much easier.

Just use your 901 carts on the 510. That is all I use and they work perfectly!! :)
I never thought of that lol. Thanks! Have you had problems melting the 510s too?

I just compared the 510 and 901 carts side by side and the 901 is a hair shorter. I don't quite like the whistle tip of the 901 so I think I'll trim down the 510 to be the same height as the 901 (maybe shorter).

Thanks WillyB. I was actually wondering about that. Thanks for the info. I'm still surprised that the manufacturers use plastic for the carts. I wonder if has something to do with holding nic juice or if it's just a cost savings thing. I don't even like the idea of my water being in plastic bottles, but to have a heating element so close to plastic really makes me wonder about the effects.

The bling tip looks cool, but it still uses plastic inside the cart. I found a place that does custom machine work (CNC Machine Shop | Custom Waterjet, Plasma, Laser Cutting | eMachineShop.com), but the price of a one off looks expensive. Judging from their sample prices (Sample Prices) it would probably be somewhere between $10-$15 each for a quantity of 50. Anyone else interested in a potentially safer way to vape? I read a lot about people complaining about various phantom issues with bad smells, tastes, etc. and maybe it has to do with the plastic carts. Better yet, does anyone on this forum work in a machine shop? :D

I used my 901 carts in the 510 last night and had no issues at all!:D I was going to trim the 510 carts but couldn't find a razor. I took a look at the Super-T and they look great, but I didn't really want to go with pure dripping. Plus, if I was going to spend that kind of money on something that I can only drip with I'm sure I could fabricate something on my own (maybe not as nice looking).

I guess the point is that it can't really be too good to have a heat source constantly warming the plastic. That can't be all that healthy and isn't the point of vaping to be a healthy alternative? I think for now I might just vape my 901 before bed until I find some metal carts. As soon as I figure out where to buy them or how to make them I'll let you guys know.

I think the first cart I melted could be due to the liquid collecting in the wrong end, but the second one definitely wasn't because I was intentionally tilting it down that time.

Update: I was using the 901 cart for a few days and didn't have any issues (I also didn't push it all the way down). I changed over to the 510 cart and got a very small (almost not noticable) melt mark. I trimmed about 1/16" off the cart and again a slight melt mark so I trimmed another 1/16" (about 1/8") off and so far so good. I'm a bit obsessive compulsive at times so I've been constantly checking it. I wonder how many of you have slightly melted carts without even realizing it. Pull out your cart, wipe the juice from the edges, run your finger over it and inspect it in strong light. I really don't think it's such a great idea to vape with plastic carts. My search continues...

I slightly melted another cart last night (the one that has about 1/8" cut trimmed off) and I was vaping upright in a chair. The polyfil material was slightly dry in the area that the cart was melted (the rest was moist). Maybe blue foam might help?

I don't think anyone makes metal carts for use with polyfill so I might try to make my own somehow.

So let me get this straight. You have no problem at any time until you knowingly allow your vape to run dry? In the hope of saving/using the last 2 drops worth?

If you realy want to vape your atty dry then take the mouthpiece off and vape straight from the pipe. Or just use the mouthpiece part of a 2 part cart. Or just cut the whole cart end off a 1 piece cart.

The point is, you don't have to vape a cart dry aswell - just the atty. And just because you use a dripping setup for this one vape per day, it doesn't mean you can't carry on as you have been for the rest of the day.

I stopped trying to vape the atty dry when I burned the second cart. Now I am keeping it constantly wet (cart and atty), but the moment that it happens to accidentally run a little on the dry side it starts the melt it. Also the carts aren't melting nearly as bad as the 1st two. Its a VERY SLIGHT melt mark that you probably wouldn't notice unless you wiped off the juice and inspected it in a strong light. The point here is that it can't be healthy to vape with plastic carts and most people probably don't even realize if they slightly melt one.
