Hey, My names Steve.. Thanks for having a great and active forum here. But today.. Im having issues with rebuilding a Protank 2 coil as the title says... I've followed everything I had to do using 28AWG Kanthal and Cotton wick. I made the coil with 12 wraps and ran the two leads to the bottom of the coil. I put one through the insulator and left one out. Put in positive stem with the other lead on the side.. Nothing ran through it. And no matter what I do my Tesla always says it has a short with 0.0 ohms. But if I put in the stock wire just the same as the 28AWG.. It has no problems?? Im starting to wonder if the 28AWG is too much to burn through? Im Confused :(

Hey Steve, I think I figured it out

Tesla has the same chip as the vamo - 33.3 htz chip and a 3amp limit

the 12 wrap on a 20ga needle in Riptrippers video came out at 1.1 ohms so the chip is seeing that as too low of ohms or a short in other words - try building the same coil on a larger gauge needle like a 16 and see if it works then

you need to get above 1.3 ohms to get it to work properly (riptripper was using a DNA20 chip mod which will go down to like .8 or .9 ohms)

I personally have always built protank coils with 32ga, 5 wraps on a 3/48 machine screw and it comes out at 1.8 - 1.9 ohms - works fine and I get a longer lasting charge from my battery

hope this helps

How did you cut the leads off ?? You have to cut them off extremely close to the "coil head" otherwise they will short the mod, all can look good ohms reading and all until you screw it on to the mod if you haven't cut them of close enough to the coil. I wiggle them off in circular motion.

I ran out of Kanthal or whatever the hell the vape store gave me, lol. Blah Dakota you may be right.. I do appreciate all the help guys.. I have a DMM at work so may ill bring a little strand from a failed coil and check it out at work. or maybe even check the resistance of one of the many coils I made. See if I get above 1.3 or even get any resistance at all. Thanks guys.. Greatly appreciated! Update this tomorrow

Think you nailed it. Never got a coil above 1.3 using the rip trippers method.

But cmon ppl wrapping coils without a ohm meter ?? Imagine if he had screwed that thing onto an ego battery....

I just realized.... My tesla has a resistance reading function. Why does it read 0.0 ohms? Shouldn't it tell me at least if it is below 1.3? or am i wrong?

Don't have a tesla but I bet its a short or you haven't screwed it on properly.

Even tried it with a vision battery I have with variable voltage but same thing. I'm convinced its the wire at this point. Because the lady that gave it to me, I have never seen her there before and I've been going for a while now. And she even looked at me and said "Is this it?" I saw 28awg and said yes.

You have to stop !!! You can't be wrapping coils and putting them on batteries that don't have a protection feature ffs  You might get hurt. Even before wrapping coils you should do your homework on safety even if you have protected device because that Chinese safety feature can fail.

Get an ohms reader or a multimeter do some homework about ohms law and read about battery safety before you hurt yourself.
