Was vaping outside the job the other day...cop rode by & looked at me really strange until his partner said something to him. Do they really think I'd do something illegal standing right outside of one of the biggest shopping stores in the country!!! I just kept on vaping!!

It wouldn't surprise me if they've busted people using illegal substances at that very spot before. Some people really have no common sense ... just saying.

 at that age I was, well....definitely not asking the police for advice! ;)

Asking police for legal advice at ANY age is a recipe for FAIL.

If they were legal experts they would be lawyers, not LEOs. It is NOT the job of LEOs to KNOW the law--only to enforce it. In fact, they can't even be held legally liable for not knowing the laws they are attempting to "enforce" (unlike you and me--who CAN if we break a law we don't know about...)

Free Legal Advise is worth EVERY penny you pay for it--especially when you are getting it from someone who's paycheck depends on you BREAKING the law.

I mean, really, do people even THINK about these things?

Unfortunately around here, 50% of the time someone comments on my buzz they ask "are you vaping <illicit substance> oil?"

No matter how many times I explain it's NICOTINE, these select few just don't get it. I'm actually alarmed how many times I've been asked that.

You obviously need to hang out with a better class of people...

One of my coworkers is a cop with the South Charselton PD in South Charleston, Ohio, and when he's working with us at the restaurant, he's around a dozen half a dozen vapers at any given time. He knows what they are, in all their various shapes and sizes. I asked him if his cop buddies knew what they were, too, and he said, "Yes, they know what they are."

I get that more often than not when I'm hanging around near a younger crown (generally on Bourbon st). They can't seem to dream up any other use for the device. But there I am, vaping a mod battery on the most heavily policed street in the city and I've had a single question from the police there about it. Thinking about that, the police there are probably more educated than most on the subject already. I'll bet they've seen just about everything.

I wonder if they can smoke in their cars.

Actually nicotine is a poison that can kill you. I have never heard of ... killing anyone or being used as a pesticide. Plants manufacture nicotine to ward off insects. All the night shade vegetables contain nicotine, especially eggplant. It is a toxin to kill or discourage bugs. I'm not sure what ... does for (OTHER STUFF) . Maybe it makes the bugs lazy and zapps their motivation, or leads them on to harder drugs so they start going to the opium fields instead.

I am not going to go on a big rant on this since I dont want to offend anyone. What is legal in my state might not be in yours so I am going just keep my political feelings out of it.

Police are not walking chemistry labs and without sending the liquid to a lab there is little way a police can tell what exactly is in your "delivery" device. Just because you are friends with a LEO and they have been exposed to your vaping does not mean that the guy they pull over that night does not have an ego filled with something not nic based. Hell just because you have exposed a local LEO it might be very simple to trick them into thinking that something illegal is an ecig.

My best advice know your rights people. The ACLU has a great docs that can be found here: Know Your Rights When Encountering Law Enforcement | American Civil Liberties Union

No matter how you feel about the ACLU this is good info. Lord knows they have some stances I totally disagree with and cases I cant stand but that does not mean that the info on how to deal with LEO is bad.

basic rules are.
1. shut up stupid only give them your name
2. never consent to a search
3. If arrested tell them you want a lawyer

You might be able to talk your way out of getting arrested but I myself am going to exercise the rights I have. The sad thing is the truth will come out once the equipment goes to the lab but in the heat of the encounter keep your cool and be RESPECTFUL. Its not illegal to exercise your rights people so make sure you are informed. SO like GI Joe says "knowing is half the battle".

And yes just incase people want to know they do sell cigalike products to be used for medical use in CO that contain things that would be illegal in other places. So this topic is very valid and we ecig people need to understand that just because we are not doing illegal things does not mean the other person down the block is not using the exact same equipment to do something that is illegal at least in your area.

I might know someone who knows a guy who's heard of e-juice with **** and promotes it as a good way to do things. Even sells E-Go's specifically for this. To the OP, was the "vaping" the LEO was asking about our style of vaping? Do a google search for vaporizers and you'll find that many people use a device that you put actual plant material into and heat it until it vaporizes certain compounds but doesn't actually burn the material so this may be what the officer was asking about and shouldn't be confused with what we're all here for. There is a website over TOR that you can trade bitcoins for all sorts of black market item mailed to you including e-juice with ingredients other than nic that are psychoactive. Because of this knowledge, I am crystal clear on why the mods are strict on such things and hope I haven't raised the ire of them.
