there was a thread yesterday i think where a guy lost all his PV stuff to a cop that stopped him. was all he had too.

i vape everywhere - downtown parks walking my dogs, in just about every store. I don't go out of my way to flaunt it and usually don't exhale any vapor, but I've wondered how many ppl think it's a crack pipe. I'm waiting for that day when a cop gives me crap about it.

I have a flashlight mod, that i'm really careful to cup it when driving. the attie sticks out the side and it for sure looks like a pipe lol.

I was in the bank the other day when two local cops came in to do some banking for some cop type association and we had to wait awhile to get waited on and I was just leaning on a table and puffing on my 808d-1 and figured "ok, here it goes."

One of them came over to me and asked "Is that one of those new kinda cigarettes?"

I told him it was and demonstrated it for him and took it apart and showed him how the parts worked together, described the juice and how it was the same type of juice used in asthma inhalers and so on.

He said he thought it was pretty cool when I told him I hadn't had a real cig since Feb 4th. Then he asked if I thought I was gonna make it, meaning stay off cigs. I told him I had no doubt.

His partner came over and I went through the whole song and dance again, and they were truly interested.

We each went our own way, completed our banking, and as I left, the first one called to me and wished me luck.

Then I let out a sigh of relief.

Last summer, I had two conversations with the police. It's been awhile so I can't remember all the details, but I think one involved my Screwdriver and the other involved my Iolite.

In both cases, I was vaping outdoors, and I was approached by a police officer who asked--very politely, I might add--what I was doing. And so I told them. My obvious enthusiasm and excitement about sharing information and my lack of defensiveness made it pretty clear I wasn't doing anything nefarious.

I do believe that the police officer asked to see what was in my Iolite, which is totally understandable, and he thought my set up with cotton and liquid was pretty cool.

If my first reaction had been aggressiveness over being "questioned," I think the conversation would have gone very differently. But I chose to treat the questions as honest and fair, viewed it as an opportunity to "share the good news," and didn't get belligerent. The respect I accorded to the police officers was returned in full measure. :)

I had gone to Myrtle Beach Raceway with my Grandson and Wife.. I stood on the side while the wife got the tickets and a State Trooper was there. He looked at me while I was dragging on my eGo..
Thats all he kept doing, staring and I thought oh crap, he is going to think I'm doing drugs..
As my wife started to walk towards me, he stopped her and started to ask her questions.. I walked over to her with her Grandson and asked if there was a problem? No, just curious on what you were useing to smoke.. After we wentin and the Monster Trucks started he, the cop, came over and started to talk to us about the ecigs.. He is a smoker andI gave like 3 diff cards to him to go to the web sites and he was going to try them out.. Not bad, helpping out the Law Enforcement on getting off analogs..
Well, I seen him in plain clothes in the super market the other day and we talked for about 1/2 hr.. Really nice guy and he bought an eGo.. He is doing good and his buddies think he is on something now.. but they were just messing with him as he stated lol..

I had a NYC cop yell across the A Train tracks, "Hey, you can't do that down here". I didn't argue, but I feel like maybe I should have, because people should know what these things are, that they're NOT cigarettes, and that what's coming out of them is NOT smoke. In retrospect, I probably should have been more careful, because I thought I was alone in the station and was puffing away, making no effort to be discreet, and I'm sure it must've looked like smoke.

And BTW, not to get too William Safire on you (R.I.P.), but when you're talking about someone's contact with you and your PV, it's "their", not "there". (as in what's not mine is theirs, and neither here, nor there). Ok, I'm going to stop being a grammar dork now. Thanks for the post.

I have only had one run in so far. This was right after Mi, put it's smoking ban into effect. The police were going around giving warnings to everyone who was smoking and telling them to take it outside. They have been harrassing this one bar in particular for a while. Anyway I told them what it was and the owner came over and told them that he had given me permission. The cops got rude and I got rude back and I kept vaping. They left, I don't think they really have the authority to arrest people yet for the smoking ban but I don't really know. I suppose I could have gone to jail for being rude to the cop, but I am not going to show someone respect who is being rude and refuses to think before he reacts. I would not have had the problem if it was the city cops, I know them all and they are cool. It's the county cops that seem the worst. The state boys are not as likely to be rude but they are also not likely to give anyone a break either.

I would have fought that every step of the way!
I used to openly vape outdoors of a bar and police were standing outside all over the place. Never once was questioned.
Last week. I took a titanium indulgence into a courthouse, through the metal detector.
The officer said he had never seen a electronic cigarette like mine, and that was the end of it. I proceeded to vape inside the courthouse and explain to a few people about it who were curious. Being careful not to blow vapor in anybody's direction who did not ask to try to smell it.
But then again, Vaping is accepted in Virginia, and not included in the Virginia indoor smoking ban.

Vaping is accepted in Virginia, and not included in the Virginia indoor smoking ban.

One tiny clarification: Vaping is not included in ANY indoor smoking ban in the US other than New Jersey's and Suffolk County, NY's to date (unless some other locality passed a new law we're not aware of) - and both of those jurisdictions first had to pass new/amended indoor bans in order to specifically include vaping. That's what any and all other jurisdictions would have to do too, if they wanted to prohibit vaping indoors. :(

Edit: There is currently a lawsuit challenging the Suffolk County ban's inclusion of vaping going on.
