Compared to atomizers + carts, cartomizers

  • Tend to provide less throat hit

  • Tend to provide less flavor strength and throat hit

In answer to the question posed in the poll...

Nothing can touch dripping for flavor, throat hit, or vapor.
It is pretty much technically impossible.

As far as using a cartomizer versus using a cartridge with filler, I think it depends.

I would say a cartridge with polyfill is about the same as a cartomizer.
And I would say a cartridge with a better filler material is better in all areas.

I use a Joye 510. The cartos are convenient to use, but for me the TH just isn't there. Even with my eGo battery. I get much more TH using a LR atty with my eGo. I also use my own PTB mod which IMHO provides better TH as well.
But I'm still looking for more flavor. I'm trying different ways to enhance the flavor, but so far I've had limited success.

For me, it's more than flavor and throat hit. Vapor plays a huge factor in my decisions.

Compared to a 510, I'd rate them as follows:

Flavor - Carto > 510
TH - 510 > Carto
Vapor - 510 > Carto

None of the poll choices fit my opinion, so I figured I'd post instead.

edit: one of the other things I dislike about cartomizers is that in order to get a satisfying drag, I need to puff for much longer than I do on a 510. If the poll were something like "Based on a 5 second drag....", I'd vote a 510 is better for all 3.

After 2 weeks of using nothing but 510 cartomizers, I can conclude that they work best when you zap them with high voltage. They do well with my PT on a 2 amp wallwart, and my Silver Bullet on 6v. 3.7v is just too weak for a satisfying vape.
Another thing - at high volts those cartos gobble juice like a 454 rat motor.

Are you guys vaping crack flavored juice, or do I have the wrong cartos! They taste like flavored air to me, at 5 and 3.7 volts!

"I think I taste the flavor, hold on, let me try it again"!

Everyone goes on and on (Polls verify the results) about 510 cartomizers. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? I've got 15 here from various vendors and I just cant seen to enjoy them? PLEASE HELP ME SEE THE LIGHT. I hate topping off a cart every two minutes!

I'll read yours if you read mine.
:)

The purpose of the thread I posted was to refute your assertion that cartridges are just as bad as cartomizers when it comes to the issue of anything burning.

I read yours.

I didn't mean to make any assertions, one way or the other. Honest. I know that there are people who love the 3-piece design, and there are those who prefer the 2-piece and its convenience and its similarity to analogs. There are people who have to have the latest, the baddest, the hottest mods with unprotected batteries to really enjoy their vaping, and there are folks who like their wimpy mini 3.7v, 190 mAh auto batteries with standard Dekang tobacco-prefilled cartos. They are all fine.

I'm on a quest to find a cartomizer that doesn't burn because I like cartomizers. So far we have found only one, the GreenCig, with all its shortcomings. 4081 from another company maybe another one, we're still trying to burn one.:vapor:

So, I just wanted to point out to Alex that suggesting that all cartomizers are dangerous and burn is somewhat misleading. All the systems and devices are in their infancy and none of them are 100% riskfree. That's it. I have no agenda. Scout's honor. I love them all. [But I love my Swedish snus the best.] ;)

Perhaps were all just "Women and light smokers". Or am I going out on a limb?

Did you try the things that I, and 3 or 4 people posted about reducing air flow?

Personally having used both a 510,Penstyles,and the J118, I am currently using the Vapor King fromV4L exclusively.
I have to say with the premium blank catromizers the flavor and throat hit are as good or better than the others.
Using their juices I find that I'm naturally going to a lower nic. strength due to the fact that some of my favorite flavors sometime cause irritation and coughing at the 24 and 18 MG strengths.

Well I started the poll after 1 week of using cartos (specifically, 510 cartos from litecig, hardcap). I voted less TH and flavor. After more time with these cartos, I would modify my position somewhat and say this:

Dripping produces better flavor and TH than either cartos or carts (basically anything with filler).

IMO, in addition to diminished flavor and TH, I believe every filler adds at least a little "flavor coloration." In other words, the fillers add a subtle alien element to the flavor. I can tell polyfill from blue foam in a blind test 5 times in a row; I've tried it.

The thing about cartos versus carts is this: cartos give you the option to vape a lot longer without refilling, and you don't need to mod them. BUT, if you choose to vape them for hours, without periodically topping them off, you're going to be vaping with diminished flavor and TH. That's why I would modify my opinion: I discovered that the TH and flavor are fine IF I put 3-4 drops into the carto every 30 minutes or so. In other words, it's kind of like cart or atty dripping, just a bit less frequent.

The bottom line is that none of these methods allows for constant vaping for hours at the SAME level of quality. Currently, with every option, some fairly frequent liquid refresh needs to be done to keep up the quality of the vapes.

I have decided, for now, to get a drip tip and use that for at home and in office vaping, and use cartos for the road and when I'm moving about.

That said, I should be receiving an order of the Vapornine premiums cartos today, so who knows, maybe that will change my opinion.

I noticed the same thing in regards to the alien element for cartomizers. It can be less noticeable with stronger flavors like tobacco, however with menthol - completely unbearable for me.

All I use now is direct atty drip. With a drip tip, there is no going back to anything involving filler. I understand the argument about not wanting to fiddle with the liquid if you're on the go, but with the tip it takes 10 seconds every 15-20 minutes to keep it juiced up, and there's no fiddling with filler, modding carts, taryn spins, condoms, etc. While the actual micromanagement might be a little more frequent, the type of micromanagement, dripping right into the mouthpice, is simpler and less frustrating. Heck, it isn't even that much more trouble to drip than it was to flick my lighter when I used to smoke, and carrying a juice bottle isn't that different than carrying a lighter. And the vapes are just better with direct drip. I can only approximate the quality of direct drip vaping maybe half the time at most with filler, and then it's only maybe 85% as good. The rest of the time it's much less good than that. There is no comparison.
