Hello!

Bought a used Reo (just started using it yesterday) and this evening after dinner, I went off to my usual vape spot and it wouldn't fire. So I reckoned I should have cleaned the positive contact first before using it. I did what this thread instructed sans the Noalox (still searching for a local hardware that had it).

After cleaning, I did some dry burns and I'd notice sometimes the coil would heat up fast, and sometimes it'll go really slow and sometimes it'll just glow a dull red. Thinking it might be the battery, I swapped it out for another AW with the same results. Battery on the XTar reads 3.81 volts (coil is 0.8ohms). Second battery was still at 4.03 volts.

So first question, what does a healthy positive contact look like? I noticed the contact is a really sharp (almost like a needle) is this correct? Might file this down with a different emery board. The nail files I have were made for baby nails, so maybe they are too soft for this application. :D

Second question, whatever the former owner was vaping, was really stuck on the device. Even after washing, I could still smell the residue on the device itself and taste hints of whatever juice he used to be vaping through my own e-juices. That's why I'm currently vaping Triple Menthol on the Reo since the strong menthol taste was able to cut through that odd flavor. I can see some corrosion on the positive post of the Hornet probably from his juice squonking through the feed hole there. I read vodka is good at removing old sticky flavors, but I don't have that on-hand (I rarely drink alcohol), so is it ok to soak the device (without the battery of course) in water and dish washing soap to try to remove whatever residue is left?

Thanks so much for your help!

Had the same problem with my Grand which also came from the classifieds. I gave it a good bath with soap and water, pulled the juice tube and tossed it, tossed the bottles. When it dried I rubbed everything down with PGA and ran some of that through the 510 connection. Replaced the feeder tube and locked in place with a drop of super glue. Filled up a new juice bottle and vaped. Problem solved.

Some juices leave a persistent, nasty funk that just won't come out of plastic or rubber so replacement of those parts is the only option if soaking doesn't remove the nastiness.

Edit: I also had to aggressively file the firing pin and apply Noalox generously. Lowes has Noalox in the electrical section.

Thanks everyone! I forgot to say that what I have is the Reo Grand.

The atty was fine (screws tight) and it fired really well on another mod. In fact, it glows brightly in less than a second from the middle out with no hotspots as expected from a micro coil.

Put a little more pressure on filing the pin and got an improvement. I can get it to glow as bright as my other mod did, albeit a bit slower. I'll try again with my hobby files when I pick up my other toolbox at my parent's house next weekend. Hopefully I'll find some Noalox to mitigate future oxidation.

I'd like to add, I can see a little corrosion on the block itself. The black wrinkle finish behind the Delrin cover has eroded near the top corners (likely from a leak he didn't clean up) exposing some aluminum. Can juice do that? Probably a non-issue on the device itself, but maybe the same corrosion has affected the positive contact.

As far as bottles go, the sale came with 2 extra bottles, but I can smell some residue flavors on each of them. I'll try to find tubing similar to the included tube. Can anyone tell me the measurements of this tube? Is it silicone?

Eventually, I'll just get the repair kit (and an RM2) but I'll have to wait for friends/family from the US to fly it back to me or send bulk cargo over here. Shipping from Rob's store to my country is a bit expensive for EMS. I wonder if he can give me other options such as UPS? :) It'll probably cost just as much as EMS based on stuff I ordered from Greece and at least it'll be faster (3-5 days vs 2 weeks on EMS) and delivered to my doorstep (I'll have to drive an hour during normal office hours to the post office to pick up items sent via EMS).

In the meantime, I'll probably just use this device in the car. I only use drippers and dripping and driving don't mix well. The Reo is perfect in that regard.

Again thanks for all of your tips!

The part of Canada that doesn't get enuf Snow :(
The Reo will need cleaning regularily regardless of juice thats just the way with mechanical mods the act of the firing pin connecting with the battery creates electrical corrosion the noalox or any good antioxident will slow the process some but the pin will still need to be cleaned

Thanks! Yes I am aware of that. I clean my mods regularly to keep the contacts working like new. The Reo is my first mod that needed filing on the contact so I was a bit hesitant to apply more pressure at first.

Apart from our mod's electrical contacts, what other use is there for Noalox and other anti-oxidants? It'll help me describe it better to staff at hardware stores so that I can find alternatives if Noalox is not available. The first store I went to was totally clueless about Noalox and trying to describe "anti-oxidant" to their staff netted me blank stares. I'm sure they probably thought I was looking for something that can be bought in a drug or beauty and wellness store. :D At least describing it as an "anti-oxidant used for xyz" might get me better results. ;)

Do you have home improvement stores there? Most of them will have Noalox or equivalent in the electrical sectioin, usually near the electrical tools. Also, any electrical supply house will have something.

Thanks! Will look around for that.

Off topic with me being a Reo newbie, is there a right way to squonk on an RBA? Do you do a long squeeze or a short one? :D

When my bottle is full then short squeezes work for me but less than half and i do long squeezes. Also do the blind squonk and you can tell when you got enough juice to vape.

Usually a long squeeze on an RBA. With the RM2, I hold the squonk for a count of 3, usually, and if the bottle is less full (below half full,) maybe even longer. If you'll take the drip tip off and look down into the atty, you should be able to see the juice come in and flood the coil/wick. Remember how that felt, and do it every time. :)

Until you get the hang of squonking, take off your drip tip and watch how it works. On a full bottle, I squonk for about a 3 count, less than half for a 5 count, nearly empty squonk til you hear it gurgle. It becomes second nature quickly and burnt hits remind you to pay a little attention.

Yep good for the contacts then I also use Dieltric Grease on all connectors to water proof and protect them. I regularly drive through creeks and stuff offroading, some times up to the headlights.
