Noticed today another ecf seller expecting buyers to have popmoney accounts. I know nothing about Paypal's competitors.

Is PopMoney safe to use? (to me, that would mean at least as safe as Paypal)

Do they offer any "protection" from deals gone wrong? (Paypal says they do, but I am batting .500 with them )

Finally - are there any political issues with PopMoney? - like not being able to say certain words in comments ('vape' or 'e-cig'?)

TIA

i have never used it but a quick search turned up 1700 banks endorsing and using it, and several 1000 likes on facebook, if thats not legitimate i dont know what is.

dont know about their objections to ecigs or whatnot.

I looked into a month ago and personally am not comfortable with it. The dispute process is entirely too vague for me. You have 24 hours to request a stop payment and that's about all that is really clear. tobacco products are on the prohibited transaction list. I don't know if they view ecigs as tobacco products or not. They are not specifically mentioned.

I'd much rather deal with Popmoney than I would with PayPal. PayPal has a long history of taking advantage of their relative monopoly to screw over consumers, and they've halted multiple transactions here on this site, seizing control of users' money as they did it. If they decide they don't like whatever you're trading, for whatever weird moral reasons they have, you're hosed.

Popmoney has worked very well for me where I've used it. They're supported by the bank I use (Citi) and others, where for personal transactions they have essentially replaced things like wire transfers.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with them, and they certainly beat the alternative as far as I'm concerned.

I am only going to allow pop money for my sales from now on, either that or Dwolla. Paypal's fees are ridiculous and half the time the buyer does not pay for them making that fee come out of my expense. If I wanted to sell someone something in my classifieds at 10% off, I would. What i'm trying to say is not to be a jerk, but of someone wants something, they pay the fees, not me.

PopMoney Buyer's fee - $0.95
Dwolla Buyer's Fee - $0.50

I'll stick with that and wished one of these became the universal money transaction accounts here on ECF.

Fees are built into the sale price in your classies, at least that is how peoople here do it.
I've had Paypal for 13 years and never had a problem with them, and I can't toss them aside due to a single issue i.e, vaping. There are other reasons I like them so......

I've had no issue with Pop Money or Dwolla. The holding feature of Dwolla I find a bit annoying but preplanning & posting the money to them in advance helps.

I also don't mind paypal too much. I've used them a decent amount without any issue. But as far as vaping goes its understandable to avoid them where co-ops are concerned. Too much riding on the potential of money being frozen, etc.

You know, I'd never heard of them before until my mom's bank picked them up as a service they offer. And it's worked fine. In fact, they're faster than PayPal in getting the money moved. I manage her money for her (she's elderly) so I'm the one who's done the PopMoney transfers. So far, I like them better than PayPal.

Does Dwolla and Popmoney provide money conversions and can you rent a cottage in France for your vacation? That's what I like about Paypal.

Dwolla is only available for use within the United States, and Popmoney cannot be used to send $ internationally either. I would never get rid of my Paypal account for this reason.

BTW, according the the fraud protection team that assisted me with my credit card hacks from buying ecig stuff online, they told me Paypal is probably hands down the most secure method to make $$ transactions in the world.

So, they are not vaper friendly and that is a shame, they sure are losing a lot of fees by not working with us.
